DShomshak
An ancient constellation map that includes a star that's no longer visible? Plug that into your "Stargate: SG-1" campaign. Or maybe your "Call of Cthulhu" campaign, as there could be far more sinister explanations for a missing star than it going supernova. https://www.npr.org/2023/12/28/1222056316/an-ancient-celestial-map-recently-found-in-italy-includes-an-unknown-star Dean Shomshak tkdguy
Rich McGee
Yeah, that was a neat bit of news indeed. Lots of possible plot hooks, not least of which is it never having been a star at all. Even leaving magic FTL explanations out, astronomers back then could mistake a relatively nearby generation ship for a star if it happened to be making a long burn with its drive pointed toward Earth. It would effectively "vanish" once the burn eventually ended, of course. Bet there's some scrambling going on to look at that patch of sky right now. Scott Ruggels
There will be more detail from the usual YouTube fans I post here, but for now, this is still an impressive achievement: SpaceX successfully launches two rockets hours apart https://www.upi.com/Science_News/2023/12/28/Second-SpaceX-launch-set-for-tonight/8731703818335/ tkdguy
