In the 1940s, many film stars, especially comedians, also did radio. It was much less time-consuming than television, served as great promotion for their movies, and kept their names in the public eye. Danny Kaye, the legendary funnyman who starred in films like The Inspector General, Hans Christian Andersen and The Court Jester, was especially suited to radio because of his great vocal dexterity. Many elements of his New York nightclub act would end up on radio.

 

Like this clip, which would inspire Tom Lehrer to write "Lobachevsky". It satirized one of the major theatrical fads of the time, "method acting".
