Re: Daily Art Findings

Great art. I just googled what slash was. I should have poured acid in by brain instead' date=' it would have hurt less. I think i heard of it a few years ago but my brain somehow blocked it out.[/quote']

Heh. Sorry. I made the assumption that everyone knew what it was by now.

And anyway, she steers clear of that, so it's all good.

Re: Daily Art Findings

I kept wondering what Slash meant.... now' date=' I have to ask. Question for those who know mare than my quick google. Is it male on male and why is it called slash?[/quote']

It's called slash because it's x/y fanfiction, in which x and y are any two characters from a series. First got its start in... oh heck, who knows...? I first heard of it in the mid-80s with Kirk/Spock stories. Of course, these days, it can be Buffy/Angel, River/(whomever), Integra/Arucard, Integra/Seras Victoria, Harry/Hermione, Harry/Draco, or... well, you get the idea. Most of it, is, of course, poorly written.

Re: Daily Art Findings

I saw it the opposite direction - the tower in the background is massive. The ships and town look to be in proportion to each other with that utterly huge castle above them.

I think that's the effect he was going for - but look at the steps up to the castle: each one is taller than a house. Also the castle is proportioned "normally". It may be he intended the castle to be for somebody who was really really huge, of course, so 100 foot tall windows and a 700 foot tall door was intended. It just looks odd. Still, this is nitpicking: we agree it's areally cool image.

Re: Daily Art Findings

Actually, I'm looking for a good pic of a 20-something miko (Shinto shrine maiden) with ankle-length hair.

Anyone?

I would look if I knew exactly what a Shinto Sword Madien should look like.... My Asian KS ain't quite up to snuff.

Ah the inimitable Raphael. He's getting so famous, I've seen people OTW saying "Yeah, it's nice, but he's no Raphael Lacoste."

Nice piccie, btw.

It's nicely done, but it looks to me like a pastiche of Caspar-David Friedrich's interminable Victorian "Gothic ruin" paintings.

Re: Daily Art Findings

But shucks, who can have too many gothic ruins? :D

Actually I think he *is* inspired by Friedreich - he does similar-looking landscapes, too.

But then he also does things like:

which make me gnash my teeth in frustrated envy :help:

cheers, Mark
