WWYCD: More Than Meets The Eye...

Wormhole

No one in your campaign world is entirely sure how or why it's happening, but a large percentage of the automobiles and other machines worldwide are spontaniously developing human-like intellegence and personalities, and quite a few also seem to be gaining the ability to change into humaniod robots like in the Transformers cartoon/comicbook series. The personalities of these newly sentient machines vary widely, depending largely on the type of machine. For example, a recent encounter that sticks out in your character's mind was with Beemer, a BMW with a thick German accent and a penchant for high society snobbery on par with Major Winchester on M*A*S*H. With all the the deversity of personalities, there is one thing a disturbingly high number of them have in common: a deep and bitter resentment towards humans for how they were treated back when they were "dumb" machines, and a quite a few of them are out to teach humanity a lesson. WWYCD?

Audra Blue has been dealing with machines all her life. If anyone can communicate with them on their level, it's her. She'd try and find out from them if they know what is taking place. She's try the diplomatic route with them.

Queen of Spades would give the Jack of Diamonds a big hug (as far as she can hug a fully-upgraded Nissan Titan, that is,) and take out the dimensional tag that allows her "storage space." She is big on trucks and SUVs, and would find it interesting to actually interact them on a higher level now.

Blackberry treats everyone equally anyways; she'd have no personal problem dealing with sentient planes, trains, and automobiles.

On the other hand, she's good at getting "people" to talk to each other, so she'd set herself up as a diplomat.

If all else failed, she's pretty sure she could find a father-and-son team who worked on an oil rig to get the wheels of diplomacy in motion...

Kaja would try to refrain from "I told you so." or any variant. He would foretell an age when all advanced technology would rise up against its makers, and propose a return to the old ways, of magic.

The Tornado! - Blame Nighthawk, whose corporation nearly inadvertantly created Mechanon. (OK... so there's a FAIR amount of OOC knowledge mixed in there... but, in all honesty, it'd be the first reaction.)

The Templar - Force the wicked golems to relenquish their hold upon the innocent civilians of the city and fly like the cowardly dogs they are with all haste back to whatever foul villainous wretch spawndedeth thee..m.

Doc Elastic - Clearly this is Mechanon's doing. Whatever device he is using to increase the bandwidth of his Mechanical Animation powers must be disabled at once.

First reaction: "Dude," to Windurfer,"that is totally cool."

Hey, it wasn't PA's fault that that bit of Skytrain rail fell on his car....

Then, when the hating and hitting starts:

"Okay. Hey, what happens when my RKA Flame Arrow intercepts your gas tank? You gonna behave? Good."

IOW: Treat them like any other sentient. They stay cool, fine. Pick a fight, they get burned.

Microman II: would be ecstatic at the new large number of sentient machines in the world, and definitely act as negotiator and acclimator. Should contribute alot to getting things normalized. ( he thinks like a silver ager when possible )

Diomedes: Would not even know where to begin or how to assimilate this new fact. At all. ( he is solidly bronze age )

Jack Frost: Eventually gets slugged by a teammate for making one too many Transformers jokes.

Hermes: Isn't native to the 20th century, and thus wouldn't actually realize this is unusual or allegedly impossible.

War Wolf, being a sentient machine himself, would NOT assume that all the cars simply 'became sentient', and figure that Mechanon or some similar villain has mucked around with car manufacturing plants around the world. As such, high explosives to deal with the immediate threats, then check to see if any of these vehicles have anything in common, then track back to the source.

Quantum Kitsune would, well ... okay, she's no technician. She doesn't think deeply about anything. She'd have to let the team nerd deal with the whys while she blasts the crap out of things while dropping a steady stream of automotive puns.

Special Agent Trent:

"You know, somewhere out there in the multiverse is a version of me who lives in a perfectly normal world. I envy him."

Sigh.

Grumble.

Drink lots of coffee and pop a few more aspirin than normal.

And, of course, he'd do his best to keep a lid on things, maintain order and safety, and put a smackdown on anything or anyone that threatened the peace.

He wouldn't like to admit it, but he's kind of starting to get used to this kind of thing.

Terminus would attempt to broker a peace between the machines and the humans, and point out that the sentient machines, too, need "dumb" machines to help them - even if it's just gas pumps. As an artificial human himself, he's uniquely suited to be a go-between.

Ultimately, If he couldn't get them to listen to reason he'd do a Magnus on their ass, but that would be the last resort.

The Swarmling is a living embodiment of animistic belief, namely a Genius Loci or the Spirit of a Place, so it would view these vehicles as kindred spirits (no pun intended). However, "Where the Heart leads, We follow." It'll basically follow Serenity's lead, but will try not to damage the physical forms of these "machine spirits" beyond the point of repair.

Actually, I think this is the first time that I've come across a situation where the Swarmling would us restraint on his own accord.
