Lonewalker
I'm looking for some ideas for a new name for a character with tiger-like powers. He's got the fur, the claws, the tail, the stripes...all the aspects of his half-tiger nature. He's also studied a variety of martial arts and is quite formidable in hand-to-hand combat. I'm currently stuck on the name "Bengal," which is fine but I was hoping to tap the collective creativity of the forum for some additional ideas. Anyone got any good ones? Thanks, Lonewalker

Bloodstone
Re: Name of Tiger Hero Is he Chinese by chance? If so, call him Hǔ Mén (pronounced Hoo Mun I believe). This means "Tiger Gate" in Mandarin, but of course sounds rather a lot like "Human" when said together.

OK, OK, it was in one of the lists QM linked to, but still... Why, given that someone did suggest it? Shaft suggested that as the first in his list, and the first reply to the post. Thanks, Lonewalker Look at where the character is from, where he studied, and the martial arts form and its origin. All can suggest possible names. If Japanese, for example, why not the Japanese word for "tiger", which is "tora". Perhaps "Tora-San", which would roughly translate to "Mr. Tiger". (well, what else would you call a humanoid tiger besides "Sir" if you did not know his name?) Gemphyre
Haven Walkur
Re: Name of Tiger Hero William Blake's poem The Tyger provides a couple of possibilities. How about: Tyger Tyger Or: Fearful Symmetry (call him "Sym" for short?) Burning Bright (or switch it around and call him "Bright Burning"?) Names from myth: Ayyappa -- Demon-slaying Hindu hero-god who rode a tiger and was accompanied by tiger cubs Budhi Pallien -- fearsome Hindu god of forests and jungles, who roams northern India in the form of a tiger. Raja Yah -- mystical King of Tigers venerated by the Batek tribe of Malaysia Hsai Shen -- the Chinese god of wealth and gamblers, said to ride a tiger "for Tiger brings good fortune" Bái Hǔ -- the White Tiger, in Chinese myth, represents the earth, the West, the region of death, and is guardian of graves. Xī Fāng Bái Hǔ -- "White Tiger of the West," one of the Chinese constellations (Orion, in the West) Lán Hǔ -- the Blue Tiger, represents the East and plant life. Zhěn Hǔ -- the Red Tiger, represents the South and fire. Zào Hǔ -- the Black Tiger, represents the North and winter. Kǎn Hǔ -- the Yellow Tiger that represents the sun.
