Superheroic Planets

There was a thread for this before, but I couldn't find it. So....

A planet of spindly creatures with an average intelligence much higher than humanity with a threat response that regularly devastates their civilisation. When frightened or provoked they turn into giant rampaging monsters with enormous physical strength and virtual indestructibility. And since that triggers chain reaction transformations in all the others, they regularly have to rebuild their cities from scratch.

A planet of beings who move everywhere at nearly the speed of sound. Aliens have landed on their planet and attempted to communicate with them, but since people living at a normal time rate move and speak orders of magnitude more slowly, the speedy natives usually "quickly" lost interest. They make no use of projectile weapons beyond deadly thrown stones and have never invented the wheel.

A species who never invented weapons because they possess the power to cause small and great catastrophes merely by willing them to occur.

A species of intelligent insects all of whom possess the power to telepathically communicate with each other and control less intelligent arthropods, and to increase their size to one degree or another.

A species with a natural aptitude toward telepathy. The most powerful telepaths rule over weaker minds with matronizing arrogance. It's for their own good.

Re: Superheroic Planets

A heavy gravity world run by mining and industrial corporations where the inhabitants, colonists from a much more earthlike world, all wear strength assisting life-support suits.

A wilderness world where the natives are clawed, bestial entities who are extremely hard to kill, and smarter than they look.

Re: Superheroic Planets

Are you looking for more suggestions or for plots involving the ideas presented or what?

Whatever you'd like. I actually started this because I saw the episode of the Hulk TV series, where the Hulk is mistaken for an alien by the Andromeda Strain guys, and that reminded me of the old thread about what if every hero had the "I'm an alien with weird alien powers" origin. Pick a hero and guess what a whole world made out of people with those powers would be like or a plot if one comes to mind, or just play "Guess the hero". Whatever you'd like.

Bgitzl holds Nothing over Bismol. I think DC corners the market when it comes to Superheroic Planets. Both as a generation source (Krypton, New Krypton, Daxam, *Insert list of Legion of Super Heroes planets here*), and as a Super Hero (Mogo). Super Hero generating planets though, can get, messy in long term campaigns.

Marvel had the Skrull, Kree, Brood, Wraith, Warlock's people, and of course at least some of the Imperial Guard worlds in imitation of the Legion.

Re: Superheroic Planets

A planet where nobody is older than 30. Decades ago, marauding aliens killed everyone over 10 years of age. Nearly every adult alive personally saw their parents murdered in front of them. Even as children they banded together and dedicated their rebuilt (and very wealthy) civilization to defending the weakest of worlds and to fighting the criminal scum that infest the spaceways. Today, everyone on their world is a martial arts master and has a prodigious list of skills.

They have the coolest looking spaceships in the galaxy.

EDIT: This planet recently aquired a small moon. The people on the moon are even younger on average than the people on the main world, and wear excessively bright clothing while doing acrobatics.

Re: Superheroic Planets

Char: This blackened rock floats lifelessly through space. Expeditions to the planet's surface have revealed a once thriving culture of humanoids able to heat up their bodies to the point of combustion and generate massive amounts of heat. There seems to be no external power sources for any of the machinery instead most devices use a series of ceramic nodes to capture heat from the user to power electronics and machinery.

Although it is purely a speculation at this point a partly damaged video record shows footage of what may have caused the end of the world and it's population. A group of children race each trying to become hotter than the other. The tape cuts out after what appears to be the planet's atmosphere igniting. If this level of heat can be obtained by children one can only speculate at the restraint used by countless generations leading to this point.

Don't forget the Titans, a world of Eternals offshoots.

How about a world with little protection from its sun's radiation, where the inhabitants "eat" by absorbing and storing radiant energy directly. Some have learned to redirect this energy outward from their bodies as destructive blasts, piercing beams, blinding flares, etc.

I like the basic idea, but I'd lose the moon. Instead just give them a habit of giving those orphaned by violence a home and training.

Re: Superheroic Planets

On a world that seems devoid of life, there are incorporeal intelligences. If offworld visitors arrive, it is likely that some of them will leap at the opportunity to experience corporeality. However, they don't know how to run a spaceship and have no access to the memories of the hosts they possess so serious attempts to escape in the bodies of visitors are difficult

Re: Superheroic Planets

Planet America: Once a barren world devoid of strategic importance, this bit of rock became the site of a massive military colony, which used a top secret serum to give its members extreme physical and tactical prowess. The world itself was also changed, becoming a strategic and logistic masterpiece. However, this base was created to fight in a terrible war. Near the end of that war, after saving its civilization countless times, the enemy located the base and employed a doomsday weapon, crystalizing not only the planet but the entire system in a spacial anomaly of slow time so severe that even light could not escape.

Centuries passed. The system and the base were forgotten.

Another league of worlds, each with inhabitants of great power, formed and began scouting for new members. It was a pure fluke when a scouting party found the slow time field and the tiny world located therin. Even after all that time, the field was difficult to dispel, but dispelled it was. Generals from that world now lead the league.

Re: Superheroic Planets

Planet America for the win! *Salutes*

Here's a planet.

Nestled deep in the confines of the Orion Nebula, is a lone planet, circling an X-ray binary, is a planet that is truly a death world. The entire ecology, is carnivorous in nature, and the dominate life form, sees everything about it, as merely food. Due to the stellar primaries brightness, there is no visual spectrum sight on this world, every life form, utilizing other senses (smell, sound), unique radiation sensitivity (think a combination of a pit vipers heat sense, merged with a sharks ability to sense electrochemical impulses), and the ability, to see only in the vast upper, and low ranges of the EM spectrum. Physiology capable of withstanding the stresses of that environment, and the evolved ability, to hunt down and eat anything remotely organic.

Can you relate, to something of that sort of mindset, with that alien of a sensory input, hailing from a world where it truly is, Eat, or be Eaten?

~Rex....thinks sometimes Aliens.....should be Alien.

Re: Superheroic Planets

A world which possesses no land surface whatsoever. The water-dwelling natives are very strong and have perfected the art of breeding giant monsters to the point where they have created ones who can fly into space carrying passengers.

A world wrapped in elaborate rituals formed out of necessity because almost all of the superhumanly strong inhabitants have a substantial aversion to the smell of their own sex. Therefore females may only speak to each other via a male intermediary and vice versa. They carefully avoid congregating in large groups for long since that would make prolonged exposure to the odor of people of their own sex unavoidable.

Re: Superheroic Planets

A very hot planet with a boiling equatorial sea, the water raining down on flat polar continents of jungle and swamp. The natives are ambulatory masses of vegetation, who have no technology of their own but can animate other plants in their vicinity. The only native animal life on land are insects.

*Looks around embarrassed* I have a whole galaxy where star systems born in a particular stellar nursery produce races who largely developed abilities based on the high radiation principle, in addition to what you mention they often fly, manipulate matter can travel through space unaided. For some reason the rest of the Universe works to keep their population numbers low.

Conversely their is another planet where their only ability is to regenerate their reproductive organ and can live 250 years, they have settled their entire galaxy and and parts of others. They have formed Genocidal Cults in the belief their creator will kill 74% of their race to control their population problems. No, birth control does not work for them. Their super power is reproduction at all costs.

Re: Superheroic Planets

This mysterious planet has been detected at long ranges but any time a ship approaches it, it seems to disappear, thanks to the natives, who, alerted by the planetary early warning system all use their power to cloak things from sight to make it disappear. Their own ships are still comparatively primitive...but very stealthy. A highly skilled minority have been trained to create solid objects of force, and this elite constitute their military, although since the unification of their planet there has as yet been little need for them.
