OK. I'm up for it. The Defenders of Sol are 8 super heros who bare odd resemblances to certain comic strip characters (Popeye, Dick Tracy, Steve Cayon, Joe Poluka, Little Orphan Annie, ect). All of them were gathered together by Jet Justice and Milinda Terra to protect the Solar System from Diabilon the Space Devil and the forces of evil from Jet's own dimension (which was somehow accurately depected in the no defunk Jet Justice comic strip). Since both Jet Justice and Milinda Terra are members, you need to only give 6 other main characters. If you guys are having to much fun with this, the group can be expanded after this by including 8 'junior' members. (Big inspration is the cartoon show Defenders of the Earth).

Saffron the sorceress.

 

Mysterious mistress of the mystic arts dressed in saffron yellow robes with her exotic shaved skull and the beautiful yellow gem resting in the middle of her forehead within a golden diadem and performing her world famous magic act for the rich and famous. While her act is supposedly fake saffron travelled extensively in Asia mastering the arts of the Buddhist monks the martial arts meditation and more but the yellow gem she wears has taken this knowledge to a new level it allows saffron to cloud the minds of men hypnotize the weak of will and even read minds.

Sailor Man was famous as the strongest man in America's merchant fleet. He had been a member of the Fit Five, a government sponsored "superteam" with an agenda of promoting health and fitness, as a result of his public advocacy of nutrition, touting eating ones vegetables, especially spinach, as the way for children to grow up big and strong. He is also very fond of sweet peas and of olive oil, quick to point out how rich it is in vitamins E and K. He likes to say that eating burgers will make you wimpy. The secret that, when exposed, got him bounced from the Fit Five is that not only does he privately enjoy fried chicken on a regular basis, but he owns a restaurant chain specializing in that fried, fatty treat. Also, he had supposedly given up smoking but occasionally pictures still turned up showing him with his old corncob pipe.

 

Besides his natural strength and pugnaciousness, and the low profile armor built into his sailor suits, his gimick is canned "spinach" that is formulated to give him temporary superpowers.

KIMYA

 

saffron's huge African companion is often mistaken for her bodyguard or servant.

 

Her silent presence looking over saffron is deceptive as KIMYA is much more than she appears.

 

Although she seldom speaks in public, her powerful muscular frame hides a mechanical and mathematical genius. She is responsible for designing many of the illusions saffron uses in her act as well as many other inventions and papers that have dazzled the scientific and mathmatical world.

 

An orphan in the slums of south Africa kimya grew up tough her prodigious strength used to protect younger children. Entirely self taught using the decrepit library with its moldy out of date books.

 

Kimya may never have gotten out of the slums of she had not encountered the teenage saffron during one of her adventures and saved her life. Saffron only just coming into her power sensed the depths within the nearly mute giantess. the two would swear a blood pact and dedicate their lives to making the world a better place they have been inseparable ever since.

 

Kings lives very spartanly and the wealth she has aquired through her adventures with saffron and the rest of the defenders of sol as well as royalties from her most successful inventions funds a charitable foundation providing education to the poorest children in the world.

 

KIMYA is over 6 feet tall with a muscular physique she has very dark skin and intense Brown eyes.

 

 

Due to her size she tends to wear masculine clothes when she asssists saffron for performing she will wear a tux with a saffron cummerbund when adventuring she favours heavy boots combat pants with a utility belt holding various devices she has created.

Operative X-1 Agent of Majestic 12.

Joe James was a top agent of the FBI investigating a series of seemingly impossible thefts of high tech equipment he managed to track down the thieves.

Joe tracked them to a warehouse near Los Alamos where his career would take a extreme turn the gang weren't local not even from earth they where shape shifting I infiltrators attempting to construct a device that would allow their armies to arrive in force and totally subjugate earth. Armed with nothing but his trusty colt .45 and with the device almost completed Joe didn't have time for back up and kept into the fray surprise and his extensive training have him the edge and soon the whole alien gang was down.

 

Joe went to search the bodies and as he did felt something crawling up his arm looking down he saw what looked like human skin flowing from the suddenly visibly alien corpse onto his own arm. Joe screamed and screamed as the flowing skin covered every inch of his body and flowing into his mouth and nose suffocating him just as suddenly as the terrifying ordeal started it finished and Joe suddenly felt better in fact he felt better than he had ever before. Joe had become bonded to one of the aliens morphonic symbiote.

 

Joe called in the incident he expected the local cops and more agents from the local field office. What he got instead was a uniformed colonel from the air force. That was Joe's first introduction to the American alien intelligence agency majestic 12. Joe spent some time at a majestic facility in Nevada learning about the capabilities of his symbiote.

 

he quickly learnt he could mimic any person or alien(including his favorite fighting form a 4 armed gorilla analogue) he could touch with bare skin the symbiot also acted as a universal translator and boosted his physical abilities. Joe would become majestic 12s best operative .

 

eventually he went undercover and would save hey justice from a plot by Diabilon risking his mission, cover and life to get jet to safety they became fast friends and Joe would become the defenders spy and intrusion specialist. He still carries his trusty 45 but modifications based on alien tech make it a hard hitting energy blaster with much larger energy reserves and a handy stun setting.

OK, here's an idea for a member of the Defenders of Sol, one that's inspired by (to a certain extent) Popeye the Sailor --

Captain Trident:

 

Background: Project Trident was the latest attempt by a branch of the U.S. military -- the Navy this time -- to create a

prototype "super-soldier". The project involved two different approaches in order to create their subject -- genetic

alteration to provide him with strength sufficient to enable him to function normally even at great depths, and a high-

tech battlesuit which would not only provide him with protection against energy and physical attacks, but also enhanced

mobility in air, sea, and land. Due to the advantages that the battlesuit would provide to its wearer, the decision was

made to recruit their candidate from the ranks of the SEALs, as it was felt that one of them would be able to make the

best possible use of the suit. Following a rigorous selection process, the project heads ultimately chose Captain Patrick

Denton of SEAL Team 6 to be their candidate.

 

After an extensive training program in the use of the battlesuit and its capabilities, Captain Denton was subjected to the

next phase of the project -- the genetic alteration which would give him superhuman strength. Due to an unsuspected

quirk in Denton's genetic makeup, the alteration process was more successful than the project's heads had anticipated.

Apparently, if Denton was in a situation where life-threatening harm -- either to himself or another -- was a possibility,

he could somehow increase his strength temporarily; once the danger was past, his strength would return to its normal

level (in game terms, he normally has STR 40, but when subjected to great danger to himself or others, it can go up

to a maximum of STR 60).

 

Captain Denton, or Captain Trident as one of the project's scientists had dubbed him, experienced his baptism of fire

when a group of strange-looking -- and even more strangely-armed -- intruders stormed the base in an apparent

attempt to steal the project's technology (the attackers were some of Diabolon's men, who had been sent on their

mission by their master following his discovery of Project Trident). Captain Trident was more than up to the challenge,

successfully driving the intruders away and preventing the theft of the project's technology. He would not learn the

identity of the mastermind behind the attempted theft until a few days later, when a pair of individuals identifying

themselves as Jet Justice and Milinda Terra paid a visit to the base and informed him, Dr. Olivia Madison -- the head

of the scientific part of the project and Denton's romantic interest -- and Admiral Raymond Farragut, the military head

of the project, about Diabolon and the threat that he posed to the planet. They also told them of their plan to assemble

a group of people with special abilities and training to fight Diabolon or any being who posed a threat to the Earth and

its people, and asked the Admiral if the Navy would allow Captain Trident to become part of that group.

 

Having seen what lengths the alien pirate mastermind was prepared to go to to steal the project's technology -- and

what damage said technology could do in the hands of such a man -- Admiral Farragut was more than willing to let

Captain Denton join this group, but wanted to leave the actual decision up to him. For the Captain's part, he was

more than willing to join Justice and Terra in their proposed group (needless to say, the Admiral was more than happy

that that was the case, as it gave him and the Government a set of eyes inside the group to insure that they weren't

up to any shenanigans). Captain Trident thus became the first member of the Defenders of Sol.

 

Description: The battlesuit worn by Captain Trident enables him to not only travel through water at considerable

speed, but also to fly through the air as well. The wings which are part of the thruster pack provide improved

mobility in both air and water. As for land movement, the legs of the suit have artificial muscles which are capable

of allowing the wearer to run at high speed for an extended period of time. The suit's life-support system can keep

its wearer alive in both NBC (Nuclear/Biological/Chemical) environments and undersea for six hours; eight when

the rebreather system is engaged. The swim fins shown in the picture can retract into the boots when in airborne

or land mode.

 

The trident shown in the picture wasn't part of the original equipment; it was a gift from the people of Atlantis following

a successful defense of the undersea city by the Defenders against an attack by an as-yet unknown pirate group. The

trident can not only be used as a melee and thrusting weapon, it also has a built-in energy blaster weapon that can

either stun or kill, depending on Captain Trident's intent.

Aquaria Princess of the kelp jungles of Xongo-4 

 

Aquaria was the princess of the primitive tribe of Amphibious Humanoids hailing from the shallow sea kelp jungle of Xongo-4 when she was kidnapped by Diabilon as a bargaining chip in his attempt to recover an ancient device worshiped as a god by her people. Diabilon had already decided to double cross the Xonogians and keep the beautiful Aquaria as one of his many concubines. fortunately his plot was thwarted by Jet Justice and Trident. The beautiful savage jungle princess swore her life to the Defenders of Sol under her peoples code she owed them her life.

Captain Patience Prudence is the commander of the Sanctuary Space Forces. She sometimes provides the muscle to help the defenders of Sol when they are out of their home system.

Here's a conceptual image of Princess Aquaria, in both formal attire (where Xongonians are concerned,

anyway) and when wearing a special life-support helmet when adventuring with the Defenders of Sol:

 

 

 

 

My reasoning for the LS gear was this: while Earthborn amphibious lifeforms can extract oxygen from water in

order to breathe underwater, there are probably worlds in our galaxy whose hydrospheres have a chemical

composition that might well be toxic to such lifeforms -- basically, they'd be trying to breathe cyanide instead

of oxygen, for example. So what Aquaria's LS gear does is to provide her with a supply of fresh water that is

recycled and kept oxygenated for however long she needs to wear it, on those occasions when she has to

swim in any body of water other than Earth's or Xongo-4's.

 

As for young DNPCs for our intrepid adventurers, I've posted a pic over on the Jet Justice thread for a teenage

twin brother and sister* for the Nick Arroyo character (as if having an on-again, off-again girlfriend wasn't enough --

).

 

*That's an adopted brother and sister, BTW.

I drew inspiration from two different sources when doing this one: the Space Patrol uniforms from E.E. "Doc"

Smith's Lensman novels, and the Angelina Jolie character from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

(definitely a nod to Nick Fury there; she even had a Helicarrier, for crying out loud!).

 

I figured that any woman in a position of power in such an organization would be a no-nonsense type who,

if she smiles at all, does so rarely. I also decided to give her a memento of her early SSF career: a leftover

remnant of a scar on the left side of her face, running diagonally from near her left ear to just shy of the

corner of her mouth (I figured that, even if the medical science of Jet Justice's universe is advanced enough

to completely remove scars like hers, she'd go ahead and keep it so that she could use it to impress upon

new members of the SSF just how dangerous their career choice is likely to be) -- the result of a fight with

some of Diabolon's lackeys.

 

While it's too small to see in this pic, the organization badge on the left side of her uniform is shaped like the

badges worn by the Texas Rangers, with a chess rook (the castle piece) representing the sanctuary part of

the organization

I went with a bit of a Moon Knight look with this one, only in shades of gray instead. I had

originally wanted to have a cloud of mist down around his lower body, to add a little bit of

creepiness to the pic, but there wasn't any real way to do it (bummer).

The mercurial Noqx has befriended the Defenders of Justice, but as the sole protector of his planet he can't leave it for any real length of time. He has the power to take two powers and combine them into one so that he is a shapeshifting horror show for any force of evil that he encounters.

Here's a possible member of the DoS whose inspiration shoudn't be too hard to guess -- Prince Bjorn:

 

 

 

 

Bjorn is a descendant of Vikings who were transplanted on an Earth-like world by an advanced race centuries

ago in order to preserve the Norse culture of that time; while many of the more savage customs have faded

with the passage of time, the Vikings of Skyhaven -- their name for their world -- have remained formidable

warriors to this day. While their martial prowess is known throughout the civilized worlds of the galaxy, they

are also known for one other thing, one that has caused a great deal of trouble for them -- that some of the

most beautiful women in the galaxy can be found on Skyhaven. Needless to say, this has had the effect of

attracting pirates and slavers in droves, all hoping to get that million-credit cargo: a hold full of Skyhaven

women to sell on the galactic slave market. The warriors of Skyhaven, however, were more than able to keep

their womenfolk safe from that fate -- that is, until the day that Diabolon and his forces arrived to plunder the

planet.

 

In spite of the ferocious defense mounted by the Vikings, Diabolon's forces managed to capture a large number

of young women -- among whom was Bjorn's own sister, Brunnhilde, who was regarded as the most beautiful of

Skyhaven's women. Before the last of the pirate raider craft left to rejoin Diabolon's flagship, Bjorn managed to

board it in the hope of being able to rescue his sister and the other kidnapped women. Before he could do any-

thing, however, the ship executed a hyperspace jump, which took it to Earth's solar system. Upon its arrival, the

pirates -- led in person by Diabolon -- launched a raid in order to kidnap some of Earth's women for the same

purpose (minus, of course, those who Diabolon kept for himself); however, the Defenders of Sol were quick to

intercept them before they could carry out their raid. Taking advantage of the distraction, Bjorn managed to

free the women from their captivity -- with the exeception of Brunnhilde, who had been locked in Diabolon's own

quarters -- and launched an attack from the rear. With the help of the Defenders, Bjorn and the kidnapped

women were able to escape from the pirate ship. Enraged by the failure of his plan, Diabolon fled from the fight,

swearing vengeance upon the Defenders and Bjorn as he did so.

 

Having heard from the rescued women that their arch-foe still held the sister of their Prince captive aboard his

ship, the Defenders pledged their support to Bjorn to find and free Brunnhilde from her captor, and extended

an offer of membership in their group to him. Impressed by the fighting skills of the Defenders, Bjorn accepted,

and has been a member ever since.

 

NOTES: As a member of Skyhaven's Viking society, Bjorn is an expert with all of the traditional weapons of his

people, which is reflected in his choice of weapons -- dagger, longsword, and a weapon called the Maul of

Ragnar, which he inherited from his father. The Maul -- forged from a metal native to Skyhaven called 'demi-uru' --

weighs 30 lbs, and in Bjorn's capable hands is a terrifying, man-crushing weapon.

 

The picture next to Bjorn's is of his younger sister Brunnhilde.
