What I'm saying is, put on your fedora, hunch over the steering wheel of your 58' Project Orion (the one with the tailfins!), and pull out into the starlanes for a trip down to Beta Ophuichi Palm Springs V. Unapologetically hog the fast lane all the way there, ignoring the blaring horns of the hyperdives, transmats, warpers, probability manipulators and electromagnetic jammers as they pile up behind you. For extra credit, manoeuvre so that the slow lane is filled with a sweating, yellow-jerseyed hobbyist peddling away on a chemical rocket, and slow down to the same speed. Nor does the discovery of the Higgs-Boson preclude the avenues of inquiry into "unanswered questions" he hopes for. The questions remain unanswered and there will be scientists will seek the answers - there always are. Hawkings, ironically, never fails to present his personal opinions as incontrovertible fact. Which isn't very scientific. At best he has a hypothesis about the impact this discovery will have on his fellow scientists desire to ask those big questions. Would be the death of mass-transit if it were an actual application. Which wouldn't be a bad thing unless you own stock in the airlines, oil companies, or automotive companies.
