7. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie Aaron Alston's P.S. 238 had Ms. Kyle aka Mighty Mite, who looked exactly like what she was, a elementary school teacher. She could pass for a soccer mom.
8. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Same thing I do for the Navy: run a library of books full of secret stuff that I don't read because they're boring. Of course, if you don't return a book on time, there may be assassinations involved.

Me: Well, we can replace it with a faster computer that doesn't work. Coworker: How does that help? Me: You'd stop complaining about it being slow.

14. Re: Alternate History Trooper Loadout? What if, instead of going for the cooler, more modern(istic) weapon, they had stayed old school? There was a large arguement in the U.S./Nato sphere over handguns: the 9mm (favored by Europeans, longer ranged, more accurate, bigger magazine) or the .45 (more damage per hit, knockdown). In the 'real' world, Nato won and the U.S. eventually (with much resistance) switched to the 9mm. What if the U.S. infantry officers had won, and the .45 M1911 was now the standard sidearm?

17. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. I have had this conversation many times during my navy career. The usual cycle for me was... PO3: I need xyz for 1st division asap. Me: Sorry, we don't have them, they're on order and they'll be here next week. PO3: OK. (5 minutes) PO1: I need xyz for 1st division asap. Me: Sorry, we don't have them, they're on order and they'll be here next week. PO1: OK. (5 minutes) PO1: I need xyz for 1st division asap. Me: Sorry, we don't have them, they're on order and they'll be here next week. LT: OK. (5 minutes) CPT: I need xyz for 1st division asap. Me: Sorry sir, we don't have them, they're on order and they'll be here next week. CPT: OK. Me: And before you call the Admiral, you know I'm going to give him the same answer.
18. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie Well, my initial answer is what *I* would do, now let's see what my characters would do... Shadow Hawk has been on missions that he thought were hopeless (suicidal), and knows that kind of attitude leads to failure and death. He would pick a movie that's 'a Triumph over impossible odds' in a attempt to get her in the right frame of mind for the mission. How about "The Last Starfighter". Goliath... why would she be talking to a 7'2" 500lb blue monster with the mentality of a happy 3 year old? He'd want to go see "Cars". El Mago, being a billionaire playboy Spanish nobleman would pick something romantic and probably European or foriegn. "Like Water for Chocolate". Being a playboy, he would watch for the signs that she was open to his advances, being a gentleman he would not act unless he saw those signs. Steel Panther, being a tech geek, would choose science fiction. The new "Star Trek" would be right. Being a teenager, he'd also be likely to try holding her hand or something. The Eagle is a 29 year old black man in 1960 NYC. He's over-sensitive about racial issues, and wouldn't want to give a random bigot offense. He'd suggest that she ask someone else.
19. Re: "Neat" Pictures "He followed me home, can I keep him?"
20. Re: Beaks and Speech The first thing I thought of was not a beaked race imitating humans, but what a beaked race's language might sound like. So, thinking of birds... Whistles, with clicks for emphasis. Chortles. Clucks. Screeches. You can send a lot of information with those sounds.
21. Re: Take a Teammate to a Movie *I* would choose The Princess Bride.
22. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Introducing my crew... Me: Here's Smith, Johnson, and V-8. Newb: Why do you call her V-8? Me: Read her nametag aloud. Newb: (Tries, fails). What language is that? V-8: Hawaiian. Newb: We allow Hawaiians in the navy? Me: (Facepalm) For the record, V-8's name has only two consonants. I've suggested she get with a CPO I once knew, a Ukrainian we called G-11, whose name only had one vowel, so they could do some trading.
23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... More 4th edition goodness! Theren the Archer, Elven Ranger Goguin the Faithful, Dwarven Cleric Samm the Compensating, Human Fighter Darrek the Redundant, Dwarf Fighter Lucius the Pyro/Cyromaniac, Tiefling Elementalist Damacus the flighty, Tiefling Warlord More Underdark madness. GM describes the scene... GM: Ogres, Mindflayers and Trolls... All, in unison: Oh my! A bizarre scene? Samm: Did he just cut his own heart out? Goguin: Self-sacrificing Aztecs, what will they think of next. Overkill Therin: I hit for 65 points of damage! GM: He's a minion with one hit point. Samm: Now he's a minimum. Therin scouts ahead... Therin: I move into the room. Lucious: I slam the door behind him. Damacus: I lock it. Goguin: This is not what I meant by teamwork. Samm gets hit by not one but three critical hits. Samm: I think the GM just had a orgasm. GM sets the scene... GM: A beautiful maiden appears before you! All, in unison: Uh-oh. New culinary dish: "Leg of Lamia"
