  1. Re: Ars Tactica Our group does the same thing. It is easier than array especially if you are just going to do standard effect to speed uo the game.
  2. Re: Tolkien Elves in Hero For the ability the Lucius mentioned-talking to the land, how about precognition? And if there is any limitation, it would be: limited understanding. As in, the land may remeber, but the details would be given in perspective of rocks or trees or what have you. And for magic, its either in the hobbit or Lotr, but magic for elves is a natural thing. Humans on the other hand seem to get in trouble if they mess with magical items. Oh and a note about the One ring and the elven rings. Iirc, the eleves found out about Saurons trick before he could corrupt the elen rings, but they were still linked to the One ring and once it was destroyed, the eleven rings lost their power and the eleven lands had to change, which is why most of the eleves were leaving middle earth.
  3. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete Just wondering how this might effect people who bought 6th ed Basic?
  4. Re: The Ulronai Thread Well then the 'curse' could be represented as a negative reputation? One plot hook/character motivation I think is that they are searching for a way to lift/break the Lord of the Graven Spear's curse. As mercenaries, they have a freedom to search the lands in this quest discretly. In singles and small numbers, the Ulronai can spread a much wider net in search of the lost gizmo than in a large force. And I'm sure that there are some people who wouldn't want a united Ulronai people either. To be more consprirital, the Ulronai has a spy network of non-ulronai and some puppets. This could be a reason why the local king decides to hire a group of adventurers and just by coincidence, an Ulronai is close by and able to help. And for good ole drama, the adventures have to get a gizmo which the Ulronai want and now the Ulronai player has to decide if she puts her people before her friends.
  5. Re: Tolkien Elves in Hero Chirstopher look to see if you can get ahold of I.C.E Middle Earth Roleplaying System or merp for short. They would have write ups for elves and since ICE owned Champions at the time, they might also have a conversion for you.
  6. Re: The Ulronai Thread I like and I can see a devious GM giving a phy lim:ant-array or phy lim: inversion of ninjitsu. The more Ulronai are together, they suffer OCV and DCV penalties. Nothing too cruel but could keep you from having a whole bunch of Ulronai players together, or a reason why a Ulronai would side with other races.
  7. Re: The Ulronai Thread Oh another point from my source is that it hints that the Ulronai are a seperate race. So if its true or not, you could play with that angle. Lucius perhaps the Ulronai are in diasporia? Perhaps the priesthood became corrupt and this is why the Ulronai fell and are dispersed?
  8. Re: The Ulronai Thread WE (as in my friends at the time) thought it was chessy that mages could be warriors. But that can also be from the DnD effect. Even though we really didn't play THAT much.
  9. Re: The Ulronai Thread The first paragraph about half-way through, in Fantasy Hero Companion II. It mentions about totems and priesthood. Basically the totem is a dragon and a wolf. Razilarc and Volsendra respectively. And each Ulronai serves how he or she sees fit. The is no structurced priesthood. Also there is no gender biased on who can be an Ulronai warrior-mage too
  10. Re: The Ulronai Thread Sorry forgot to mention that there is a brief couple of sentences on their religon. And mentions that they have their own sword-though no stats. And a list of suggested disadvantages and roleplaying tips. There is a college of warrior-magery in the spell lists.
  11. Re: The Ulronai Thread Lucius, I found the package deal and they are described as "a mysterious people of unknown origins." So what I have isn't much help. Why am I not surprised that a race of warrior-mages were designed by Steve Long?
  12. Re: The Ulronai Thread Wasn't the the Ulronai in the fantasy companion 2 for 4th ed?
  13. Re: Ars Tactica For cloth only hold, I'm not sure whats its called, but its done in hockey. Its where you pull your opponents jersey or jacket over their head. I had it done to me, and besides being blind, its hard to throw a punch with your arms entangled.
  14. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed Obviously if you believe that, then Belial has already conned you.
  15. Re: Ars Tactica I wonder if it was changed to so it would make martial crush alittle more powerful. Do you have a problem with this rule with throw? As in, if you decide to throw on a later phase, then you have to make a new to-hit roll. It could also have been changed to keep the throw/crush option the same. I.e. the phase you grab you can autoamtically either throw or crush but if you wait, then you must make a new to-hit roll. Fwiw, I see no problems with requiring a to-hit roll to try to martial escape, but that's my 'real world' experience.
  16. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed Christougher-fyi Black Paladin and Dark Seraph can be found in Classic Enemies (4th ed) together which I would think would be cheap to pick up and Demon, you could just supplement the agents found in book. And it might be worth to look at some of the super villians to file off the numbers and rebuild into the seven you were mentioning-instead of designing them wholecloth. As for some powers which might help with scenerios. Supernatural-dis features; limited group, unusal senses, alls detected. With this limitation, the right people, such as priests, magic-users, and occultists recognize that you are a supernatural being, the rest of the world takes you at face value. "That no demon, where is his tail and pitchfork?" Hear prayers-detect ranged. at least one of the PCs can 'hear' a prayer, and know that it is real. However, they still have to find out who sent it and why. The Glory of the LORD-Pre with knock back (perhaps x2). Just a glimpse of God's glory has mortals quivering. (A friend of mine hates this power contruct, but I think in this case, it would be acceptable). One thing that is probably more genre than mechanics would be that just because the PCs are fighting the big bads, doesn't meant that the rest of the world can see it. Imagine that the pcs are fighting a demon possesed person. To the world, it might look like the heros are smacking around an old bag lady even though, its one of Diablo's henchmen.
  17. Re: more martial arts You are allowed to design your own weapon element for a campaign at 1 pt. Just remember, you do need to buy a weapon familarity in order to use a weapon element, which you can conviently create to at 1 point.
  18. Re: more martial arts Are you using 6e perchance? If you are, I can't comment on if the cost is correct. But I would like to point out that typicaly manuevers also have some sort of damage or strength to do a specific task. I.e. Strength to disarm an opponent or to break free from a grab. However, could build the above as combat skill levels and define it as a manuever. You could buy it as +2 DCV with limitation of stance. Here I would declare that in order to use the stance, you have to be standing and legs free of entangles to use.
  19. Re: Angels on Earth - plot ideas needed Well for Champion foes the ones that come up off the top of my head are; Black Paladin, Dark Serpah, and Demon. There is a blurb for this type of game in Villiany Amok. Perhaps the motivation for the Angels are that they are Fallen, and this is a chance for redemption? For plot how about said villians are killing off seemingly random people. The Pcs discover that they are trying to kill an appointed one and they have to save the person from the evil ones. Another would be that the villians are trying open a gate to hell or maybe summon Leviathan?
  20. Re: Disarming a two-handed weapon (5thr) Pattern Ghost it does recommend that in Heroic games, you could add an additional -1 to -3 for unarmed disrming an armed opponent-at least in 5th. What I always found odd was that weapons designed to disarm a weapon only were bought with OCV to hit but no additional STR for disarming purposes.
  21. I have a quick question with the Disarm manuever and OCV and holding a weapon two-handed. I know it seems obvious but I try to disarm a person who is holding a say a staff with both hands, and I use the additional OCV modifier, is the total a -4 OCV or minus -2? Thanks as always
  22. Re: Ars Tactica Nusoardgraphite-I'll check 5th rev. to see. But speaking of crush I have a friend that thoought it was odd that if you used martial crush you had to reroll after a grab, but if you grab and squeeze, you don't have to reroll to hit.
