About person gets power, I was asked by my son’s councilor a question what super power would I like. I told her that I’d like super strength will a little invulnerability. However, I can see myself using that for evil/selfishness. You take my parking spot? I’m picking up your car and moving it. Like throwing it.

I never cared that much about going deeply into the villains of the story.  If I were to write a book, sure, but just running a game: here's the bad guy, some notes on personality and behavior, lets go.  Certainly none of my players ever cared.

I haven’t found a way to replicate the effects of meeting Cthulhu-esque creatures using the Hero system. The closest we came was using disadvantages. Our GM at the time did a masterful job of building and paying off and acquiring disadvantages during our game. But it’s not something I could even explain, much less implement myself.

However, as I get older (much, much older) I don’t think ‘sanity’ is the right term to use. Even though I love the feel and atmosphere of Call of Cthulhu, it completely misses the mark on mental illness. I think ‘hope’ and ‘hopelessness’ are a bit better at describing the changes in a character’s behavior. Along with changes in what a character can see or hear, whether real or not.

    It is for me.

Tomorrow I'm running my first Star Wars Hero session, taking place about a month after the destruction of the second Death Star.  This will be session zero with potentially a combat scene also.  Hopefully it goes well.

@fdw3773, If I understand correctly, ICONs is a derivative of the old Marvel System. Do you find that you need to house rule anything?

@oldmanthere is an article from Dragon Magazine which you can find under Classic Marvel RPG website on how to make it a point buy system inspired by Champions.

Check out Dyson Logos. The maps are beautiful and he has a lot for FREE! The maps also usually have a small paragraph explaining them. Naturally you can not use it.

Playing a translation of Dungeon Slayers ( a European OSR Revival set of rules that feel like 1985), and I had forgotten how quick combat can get.  The background for this game is home brew, and the Roll20 implementation is solid, even if some of the pop ups are in German.  The rules are skills light, but initiative is fixed, like Hero.  Having a good time with it.  One has to be careful as there are so few hit points.

If it refers to a source other than the Core book I agree with you 100%.

And perhaps that at least is the OSR charm. Instead of changing what it is, embrace it for what it is.

I picked up Art of Wuxia RPG and I like it. It is all inclusive game with mini settings and minsters and some random charts for technique names and plots. It has a small gazetteer too. The mechanics  are D100lite. So far fairly easy to understand. And light rules seem to be great with this type of game.

Yes, sir. This insistence on placing "balance" on a pedestal is groan-worthy at best.

Also I think some dungeons should be alien in nature and thought. There seems to be this idea that everything in a Fantasy has to make sense. Heck even in the real world we don’t know really why people did what they did.
