  1. Re: Need a name for batlike hero I had a dog named Cuddles. She chewed through more than a few power cords, and was better known for making something that rhymes with her name...
  2. Re: Complete your "Ultimate" collection! I guess I made it nigh invisible. Here it is: http://gamerati.com/loot/2011/11/02/ultimate-hero-system-bundle/
  3. Loot is providing nine HERO books from the Ultimate series for $28.74 plus shipping! The books in the deal include: 1) The Ultimate Base 2) The Ultimate Brick 3) The Ultimate Energy Projector 4) The Ultimate Mentalist 5) The Ultimate Metamorph 6) The Ultimate Mystic 7) The Ultimate Skill 8) The Ultimate Speedster 9) The HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook (it says The Ultimate Vehicle, but Steve clarified that it is the HSVS, instead) I missed most of 5th Edition and was waiting to pull the trigger on the "Ultimate" deal on the Hero Games website for $100, but this was just too tempting to pass up. Even after shipping, it worked out to ~$5/book. Unfortunately, this deal ends today (Nov. 3rd, 2011), so hurry! To Steve Long and Hero Games, thanks for bringing Christmas early this year! (Can you tell that I'm excited?)
  4. Re: What is Happening with Dark Champions? Just a few days ago, Steve mentioned this: As for other sourcebooks, have you considered anything from the silver line of SpyCraft books from Crafty Games? For their second edition, they had a "World on Fire" campaign that looked interesting.
  5. Re: Champions Villains Volume Three: Solo Villains when will it be on the shelf? What are you looking for, specifically? Maybe the boards can help you find what you need. I just bought Star Hero, the Equipment Guide, and the Grimoire from frpgames.com, mainly because coolstuffinc.com didn't have the Equipment Guide available (said that it was still a pre-order).

    Paper

Re: Paper True, but it might be difficult to understand due to spelling differences and the change in meaning of words. Languages are slippery! Not necessarily useless, just more difficult to retrieve information from. I suppose that, eventually, it may become nothing more than a coaster for drinks. I don't know how quickly the data on a magnetic disk degrades over time. You might want to keep refrigerator magnets away from it, though...
  7. Re: Force Dome Ahh, and for that, Barrier makes the most sense.
  8. Re: Force Dome Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to use Resistant Protection, Usable by Nearby (pg. 358 of Vol. 1)? Are there use cases where the special effect will not be enough, such that Barrier is needed instead?
  9. Re: Battle Royale Demo Nice! So, were there individuals playing each of the characters or did you control all of them? If there were individual players, what did the person playing "crossbow lady" do for the rest of the fight?
  10. Re: Battle Royale Demo So, how did it go? If you feel up to it, a blow by blow commentary would be appreciated!
  11. Re: The HERO System 6th Edition Surprisingly small. On my machine Volume 1 (466 pgs.) is 21,769KB and Volume 2 (322 pgs.) is 11,557KB. I would be concerned that the pdf reader on a tablet may render it funny, though. Good luck!
  12. Re: Paragon Disruption Then GM Fiat it is!
  13. Re: Paragon Disruption It seems like it would be subject to less abuse if it falls within GM fiat, but I imagine that guidelines for time, range and distance would be helpful. Perhaps it could come with the explanation that no two paragons have the same effect on material goods? That way the GM can inform/warn the player of items in the vicinity that may be affected by his or her presence based on the needs of the story. Of course, I can also see the potential for abuse of this complication, turning it into a power or ability...
  14. Re: Dissecting Powers A plain speak example of Lucius' power could perhaps be written like so: Out with a bang! The hero throws a small packet to the ground which promptly ignites with a flash, blinding any character within 16m of the hero who is looking at the hero without eye protection for one second; those within 8m are blinded for an additional second (two total). Further, the hero can choose to spend 1 END to leap up to 5m away while those around the hero are blinded. The packets are time-consuming to make, limiting the hero to 2 packets per week. P.S. I love your power breakdown! I'll try to take you up on your challenge later.
  15. Re: Battle Royale Demo Have you run a sample battle with them as is? They all look like fun to play (reminds me a bit of DnD4E). My observations? A quick glance at the two fighters and the dwarven one seems to be the more able. Why would someone choose the human fighter over the dwarven one? An extra two meters of movement? The Shield Bash could be useful depending on terrain, though. The rogue: fast, with a peppering ranged attack and the ability to evade incoming blows. The mage: looks to have crazy defenses with a forcefield and magical robes, and that is on top of the flame everybody splash damage of the fireball. Out of curiosity, how far away will the characters be at the start of this battle royale? What will the terrain be like? Coliseum? Woodland? Open field?
  16. Re: HERO System Advanced Players Guide II now in store. I found this pdf preview on DriveThruRPG that has the ToC: Link
  17. Re: Tactics Forgetting that the order of operations is Flash then clear a room. Making everyone blind/dazed/disoriented is unhelpful...as is using any explosives in an enclosed environment. Those smart enough to take cover popping their head up in the same place twice. Forgetting that bullet-proof vests might be improperly named...especially when it comes to rifles.
  18. Re: Life Support and NNDs What about those things that you have thought of, but didn't write down?
  19. Re: Psychokinetic Controls Could it be a perk? Something like, "Access to psychokinetically controlled vehicles" or similar? It would have to be limited to those with psychokinetic powers in the first place, but I think that it might work.
  20. Re: Neverwinter site Have you thought about GOG.com? I lost the game years ago (likely in a move), so this was a no brainer for me.
  21. Re: STAR HERO Cover Sneak Peek! I like it. To me it says, "Epic space battles!" in the same way that the Fantasy Hero cover says to me, "Epic fantasy battles!" I mean, I suppose it's not always about epic battles, but I imagine it is going to turn heads on a shelf. I like that you decided to use the same artist. To me, it gives the books an immediate coherency. The covers are similar, yet different, an I like that. Seeing a Champions cover from him would have been pretty cool, too.
  22. Re: Special Forces PC groups and adventures that happen "off the clock" Funny, when I read that, I thought of "Soldier of Fortune." Stupid video games...
  23. Re: Maps for Secret Military Bases What about HERO System Ultimate Base? There are a number of maps inside. Also, aside from the different bases in there, it also refers readers to some other HERO publications. I've added page numbers for the maps I could see as useful from the books I've looked through. The Book of the Destroyer The Book of Dragons (Probably less useful for modern campaigns.) The Book of the Machine Champions Battlegrounds DEMON Fantasy Hero Battlegrounds (Again, probably less useful for modern campaigns.) Masterminds and Madmen Stronghold Thrilling Hero Adventures: the Pennsylvania Aerie (Aircraft Hangar) on pgs. 89-90 and the Voodoo Fortress (Command Post?) on pg. 171 Thrilling Places: the Grant Building (Who says the floors have to be above ground) on pg. 7, the Laussat Plantation on pgs. 49-52, Dr. Fang's Hidden Base on pg. 75, the Pharoah Club on pgs. 93-95, Schloss Eisenwolf on pgs. 102-109 VIPER: the Aerie on pgs. 87-88 If you are looking for something a little less expensive, I did a quick search for blueprints and found Stanford's CS Building Blueprints, though they may need to be cleaned up a little with your favorite image editor. Also, though not exactly secret, this bunker was up for bidding on eBay a while back. Might be something to get you started.
