  1. In 2016, I was lead writer for Aaron Allston’s Strike Force. It is one of the highlights of my game writer career. I had hoped to be able to continue work in Aaron's world by developing something I wanted to call "Strike Force Organizations." And now, I can. Note: This product will be dedicated to Aaron (of course), but also Darren Watts, as when I first discussed this, he wanted to develop the section on the Circle.

For Hero System stuff for the period, I recommend @Susano's book Larger Than Life. He's got "pirates and soldiers, lumberjacks and steel drivers, mountain men and lawmen, cowboys, Indians, inventors, and eccentrics," including sample characters for each type; for instance, the sample lumberjack is, of course, Paul Bunyan. Among the archetypes, he has several appropriate for colonial games, each with a package deal and a discussion of the archetype. It doesn't exactly have a magic system in it, but a lot of the folkloric or "Tall Tales" abilities are basically magic.

    What he said.

  4. When it came to Genetic Upgrades and Replicated Humans, the book was big enough that I just didn't have the energy to go into the sort of detail. I did supply several example Replicated Humans (Domestic, Escort, Lynx, Puma) which showed the range of models possible. What things Replicates have over Genetic Upgrades is increased stat maximum (STR, DEX, CON and so on). They are tough, stronger, faster, and harder to kill then a genetic upgrade. Also, increased Perception bonuses due to things like cat or dog ears and so on.

As for why play one over the other, it comes down to a matter of character concept. In addition, I think I noted that PC replicated humans won't have "Must Obey Owner’s Commands" which is why they are PCs now.

  5. Darren Watts’s Golden Age Champions: Big YES!

Michael Surbrook’s Ghosts, Ghouls, and Golems: Yes, but I was really hoping to see the Kazei Five expansion instead.

Ian Harac’s Sea of Worlds: Maybe. Not sure.

Champions Character Creation Cards: Big YES!

Danger International: Even Bigger YES! I want it NOW! Take my money!

Aaron Allston’s Strike Force Organizations: Yes!

    Champions Villains Four: Organizations: Yes!

Michael Satran’s Imperial Throne: Yes, but I'm fine with waiting.

Invictus!: Yes, but I'm fine with waiting.

Jason Walters’s Santa Muerte: Big YES! I wish it was coming out sooner!

The Kazei 5 expansion is like 90% done. I just need to complete editing the scenario and write a few essays.

  6. Hmm. I followed the link Jason sent me, and then had to install Dropbox to get access to the files, and then had to give Dropbox privileged access to my computer for it to work, and then...all I can get access to are files with lock symbols on them, even if I copy them to my computer. Is this what everyone else experienced?

    Please contact me via email.

  7. When I open the file, I get a message saying that the RKA was in the Multipower, but was moved out because it was too big.  The same thing happens for every version of Overlord.

    Odd.

Right, And it was an xd6 RKA (I think it was 11-15d6). I have no idea what it was or what it was supposed to be, but it's in the character sheets, so.... I didn't want to leave it out, as I didn't want to presume anything.

  8. Understood.  I just found it odd that there was no mention in his description of what's essentially a single-target tactical nuclear warhead.

EDIT:  I just looked in the Strike Force Archives that I got with the Kickstarter, and I'm seeing a 5d6 RKA that's part of his Multipower, on the 1995 version of Overlord.

This is what was published in 1988. My character sheet goes off of a 5E Hero Creator/Designer file that was also in the archives.

  9. I hate to be the guy who nitpicks, but...

Page 34, Number of Supers.  (Details redacted to maintain spoilers.)

"Conservative estimates suggest that, in recent years, one person in a million on Strike Force Earth has innate powers that can be considered paranormal or even superhuman. With a world population between X and Y billion ...(REDACTED)..., this yields a figure of X to Y million paranormals."

One billion divided by one million is one thousand.  Either one person in a thousand has powers or the paranormals only number in the thousands.

Page 35 then discusses one paranormal in a thousand being powerful enough to be a hero or a villain, with those then numbering in the thousands, suggesting that the earlier millions is correct.

Those are Aaron's exact words... so as you can tell none of us are strong on math....

Anyway, please report all typos and other issues to jason@highrockpress.com
