  1. Re: How do you find the lost tomb of Genghis Khan? As much as I like Jones, I prefer Belloq's method - let your rival go in after it, and then take the goods from him when he comes back out. It's the archaeologist's version of "let's you and him fight".
  2. Re: UNITY Unlimited I have something different in mind for PRIMUS, which can be summed up in three words:
  3. Re: How do you find the lost tomb of Genghis Khan? Very carefully.
  4. Re: UNITY Unlimited Not. Even. (Oh, I suppose you could play them that way. But "evil PRIMUS" is so cliched by now, I question the creativity of anyone who invokes it. Seriously. Besides, what you are looking for is called Department 17...)
  5. Re: Mutants and Masterminds: Why did you stay/come back? Did you just use the terms "predictability" and "di©e pool" in conjunction? I have found dice pools to be extremely counterintuitive, personally. Maybe it's because my experience with dice pools has been with systems that poorly implemented open-ended die rolls with their dice pools.
  6. Re: Paths Not Taken You could do that with any character and get much the same result. "Different" doesn't always mean "valuable".
  7. Re: Evil org bases on chess pieces. I've thought about doing the same thing myself, only not necessarily evil. Or, rather all of the chess motif orgs would not be evil. The idea stems from using multiple colors. Not just black and white, but also gray and red. Different branches of the same org, only one of them (gray or red) would have sprung up within the org as a rogue branch, the other would be the 'plausible deniability' folks - the ones who do the stuff that the main org (black/white) doesn't want associated with them. And part of me wants to work in blue and green as well, but I don't want too much specialization (no "blue is for oceanic and aerospace and green is for non-urban" or whatnot).
  8. Re: Paths Not Taken DC kinda did this for a parallel Bruce Wayne. The movie he went to see with his parents wasn't Zorro, it was a cowboy flick (I forget which one). His code name is Paladin, and he is exactly what you would expect Batman to be if Batman were a gunfighter.
  9. Re: UNITY Unlimited As of CU:NotW, Mentiac has semi-retired and left the team. He's still working for UNTIL, just in more of a operations management capacity (think Data from Star Trek).
  10. Re: UNITY Unlimited Treating UNITY's "big 5" as NPCs works quite nicely. I'd recommend dropping the "one of the founders leads any given mission team" to keep those NPCs from overshadowing the PCs.
  11. Re: UNITY Unlimited Another thought that came to mind: there is a major group of supers that absolutely would not join - Tiger Squad. Since China still refuses to allow UNTIL to operate in their territory, there's no way any members of Tiger Squad will be in UNITY Unlimited short of a political defection. Which sets up an interesting rivalry...
  12. Re: UNITY Unlimited I think it can. GATEWAY stands in for the Watchtower very easily. UNTIL's de facto role as Earth's guardian against extraterrestrial threats (which may be the product of my own fevered imagination rather than anything in print) matches the animated Justice League's self-appointed role perfectly. UNTIL also provides that support staff the JLU had for themselves.
  13. Inspired by both recent thread necromancy and my own viewing of the entire animated Justice League series, I considered the implications, etc. of the establishment of a JLU-style superteam in the CU; that is, a single superteam comprising the near-unanimity of the world's superheroes. In my contemplations, it occurred to me that the catalyst for such a superteam already exists in the CU: UNITY. Here are the necessary changes: 1. Move their HQ from NYC to UNTIL's GATEWAY space station. 2. Given the reluctance of the General Assembly to fund additional teams (CU, p. 137), UNTIL performs an administrative maneuver and decides to expand the single team to include an indefinite number of members. In keeping with existing UNTIL policy (ibid), no more than eight members will be assigned to a given mission except for extraordinary circumstances. 3. UNITY starts recruiting other superheroes, starting with those who already have UNTIL sanction, or other official relationships with UNTIL, and expanding out from there. And that's where my thoughts end at current.

  15. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #4: Deflection, Reflection, And Range The Chin Block is a stated SFX for Block in the Dirty Infighting/Fisticuffs/Cinematic Brawling martial art on pp. 23-24, Ultimate Martial Artist.
  16. Re: Champions 6th version I'm wondering where the dividing line is between "I don't like 6th and will never use it" and "you shouldn't use 6th at all; don't buy it"; the latter potentially constituting using the DOJ-provided boards to solicit behavior (lost sales) damaging to DOJ.
  17. Re: Champion's Universe or your own A mishmash, generally. The Champions Universe is the standard source from which material is drawn. However, whatever the gaming group (GM and players) want to add, drop, or change is done so. We try to avoid direct borrowing from other settings, particularly supers settings; our general rule is "the farther it is from an official supers setting, the more likely it is that we'll all agree to add it".
  18. Re: Evil org bases on chess pieces. Shelley MacTyre did an org called Chessmen that was based on the first incarnation of DC Comics Checkmate; DC has since done a second incarnation that deliberately mixed supers and non-supers. As noted above, this motif was also used for GENOCIDE in the 4th edition CU; the group was detailed in the Mutant Files supplement.
  19. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... When you first heard about Lovecraft's Mythos you thought: meh, mooks.
  20. Re: Jupiter Impact!!?! Pre-emptive strike: kill/subjugate us now, before we develop the ability to go out after them. Especially since we could possibly detect them operating out there; if not now, soon. And we did threat their scouts rather poorly...
