  1. Re: WWYCD: Let the Hunt Begin!! Scheister sets out booby trapped Pic-a-nic baskets. (This is definitely not your average bear). Then he runs liked a scared schoolgirl and hopes someone else stops him. Ranger starts planning what room of his house needs a bear rug. Surveys the terrain for the most advantageous position, then ambushes this creature, striking to kill. Ranger doesn't like mystic stuff, or having his morning coffee/doughnut run interfered with. Hornet consults with the teams mystic expert, then prepares AKA Heroes for running this creep through "the mill", their patented team setpiece bring down the master villain coordinated attack.
  2. Re: WWYCD-Hurricane Katrina Being in the middle of "Reality Storm" I casn easily predict what the team I run would be doing. Looters on the streets woudl be an extinct species by the time Hawk and Ronin (martial artist/gun guy) finished laying down the law. Their teleport/Hoverbike would keep them incredibly mobile, and mass rescue isn't their powers, so law enforcement would be their gig. Security would be taken care of. Considering their lack of concern for the letter of the law than for justice, they would definitely be working solo. Hardwire (power armor) would have both his debris moving capability, plus his ability as an inventor to probably restore communicatios sservices. His force wall projection, along with Titans strength might be used to shore up levees that were breached. Wind Shear (speedster)--megascale speed, he might try to counterspin the hurricane on the way in, even if told it wouldn't work. With his rearrange powers, he could easily set up evacautaion centers in seconds, and express rush critical patients to safety. Titan--well a flying brick who can hold his breath for hours. More debris cleaning, or he could be flying in tons of equipment constantly. Eclipse--besides lighting up a few blocks, his 'light speed' teleport could make him an incredible courier, his flight could be a back up to move individuals, reinforce Ronin and Hawk on looter control, or use his laser/energy blasts for specialized purposes. lightbringer, reserve member--well, his mystic powers wouldn't be directly helpful--but his ability to mind link up to 32 others woudl be a great communications link for leadership. His group teleport could help the stranded. His mind control might be the most useful ability to motivate those who are not rising to the occasion. Like someone can publically complain afterwards "It was him--he mind controlled me into ...actually doing my job!"
  3. Re: Galactic Champions vs 2K Master Villains IIRC, she doesn't have much--or any flash defense. As for Defender, can't he wip up a lot of mental defense for his AI from his gadget pool 9plus extra defenses as well). At that point, Mechanon is in trouble.
  4. Re: Silly question, How much damage do nukes do Fixed your post.
  5. Re: HELP! Need Marshal Arts Hero 4 Tonight 'Marshall'' Arts Grab Escaping Crook (Martial Grab) Reasonable Self Defense (Martial Block) Non Lethal Subdual Arrest (Nerve Strike) Forcible Detainment (Flying Tackle) Apprehension and Cuffing (Joint Lock) Neccessary Force (Martial Strike) You killed another cop? (Offensive Strike) There are no witnesses here, you child molester. (Killing Strike)
  6. Re: Teen Champions My high school used the A =95 to 100 range. I guess the need for grade inflation has lowered standards since then.
  7. Re: Supervillains and the death penalty Hmm, on a related note, a challenge to executing supervillains. Invariably, the certain death methodds would change their powers, grant them new ones, and make them even more dangerous. It's easier to kill off cockroaches.
  8. Re: Supervillains and the death penalty
  9. Re: WWYCD: Holes in the story Ranger, being a doughnut shop regular, and former FBI, would recognize this as a code phrase that the baker is being held hostage. He would leave as if believeing it, then sneak in the back and take out the foul villain who would dare desecrate the doughnut shop. Unnecessary force and brutality would probably be justified. Some things just can't be tolerated.
  10. Re: WWYCD: The Invasion Is On... Hornet--turn info over to authorities, and start working on the nastiest set of defenses he can cook up--not holding back for fear of his technology going astray for once. Blaze would push for a pre-emtive strike..being able to get to the aliens first, and bring a lot of others with him. Sort of Like Iuz's Ultimatum, yet with promised retaliation upon the homeworld of the offending party. Ranger--Easy to inform the authroities. Not the starship masher, he wouldn't mind some commando operations. Schaister--immediately print a few million. "I survived another alien invashion and all I got was this lousy shirt" T shirts. Finds someone to go into the debris salvage buisness. And, being the greatest con artist of all time, yet still sentimental about earth....manages to approach the aliens as the earhtling who, cowed by the aliens superiority, tells of the secret human attack plan that actually leaves the aliens in a bad position for the inevitable desperate assault of the heroes. Milks being a 'world saving hero" for all the money its worth.
  11. Re: Help: Mr. I Can Do Anything You Can But Better Man! Well, if he's such a power gamer, I'lsd just say 'no'. Besides denying characters due toi written campaign guidelines, if you just know a certain player is goign to abuse a character type, just say no. Just tell him "Sorry, you cant have a character who learns everything instantly and always stays better." His character sounds munchkiny enough, and not much for role playing. "I live in a mental institution. I have no real world skills." (well, right there, I'ld prevent him from gaining any presence based or interaction skill). But if you just have to give him a shot, lay down limits. Sorry mr super guy--you only get so much of a skill pool. " Maybe enough for 3 or 4 'crammed" skills at a time. Your cramming fades after a while. Sure, let him by scholar/jack of all trades every skill modifier in the book, and he can buy skills permanently after learnign them. Maybe even let the skill pool add some skills or complementary skills, if you feel generous. And no, that doesn't appy to using the pool to create Find weakness for new atatcks--(ie, only using the cost of the 'for s single weapon' attack, and just changing the power out every time for a new attack.) You can't use the skill pool as an excuse to have every skill needed at any time, and show up every other PC. I stiill vote for rejecting the character concept completely, because it sounds like painful one-upmanship over all other PC's.
  12. Re: Batman VS Captain America! yeah right... What a load of garbage? what audience is DC aiming for? the illiterate action junkie audience? It is a market...but not a good one for a printed comic book. Will the next line not have word baloons, but just symbols to help out their target reader? Or maybe leet would be on target. the new DC universe sample dialogue: Batman !!!!!!!!:[ Superman WTF?
  13. Re: This week on "Champions"... The D.o.C adventure recap The Initiates plot to convert most of Chicago to her Demonic Servants by using the powers of the Demonomicon were foiled. Some members were awaken just in time, they themselves almost transformed into Demonic slaves. The DOC, back to full strength attacked her at the culmination of her ritual. Lighbringers Demon Hold Demon spell held back most of the horde, though his vital essence was drained to the limit. While the rest of the team distracted the Initiate, Shear Managed to destroy the Talisman of Invulnerability with the mysterious Stone knife they retrieved last episode, made of the same mystic material. Then with righteous fury, the Inititate was Vanquished, and was given to Lightbringer, who would try to redeem his former student. Lightbringer than bid a farewell to the team, taking a leave of absence as he tried to restore the once innocent soul of his apprentice. In the meantime, Hardwire found out his sister was trying to sieze control of the family buisness, and had obtained the prototype plans of his suit to sell to Argent. Shadowhawk confronted his sister after discovering her to be Lady Blue. The two agreed to do nothing at this time, but shadowhawk warned herto tell Grab never to set foot in Chicago again. Eclipse was found unconscious, seeming after battling demon slaves of the Initiate--win the midst of destruction that no one can explain. Ronin discoverd that the source of his enhanced abilities come from somethign related ot the Prometheus Project. Baffled as he has no memories of ever recieving such a treatment, Ronin begins to suspect what he remembers about his past may not be true. In the background, UNTIL establishes a firmer presence in Chicago, and begins its drive to control the activities of all metahumans. Titan continues to grapple with a dilemma; trying to reconcile his mutant powers with the fact that his father now works as a PR expert for the Institute of Human Advanacement.
  14. Re: New Power: Desolidification Thats what I dont like. That means you now need to increase the value of the variable sfx advantage, as it helps you against those with vulnerabilities, suceptibilities, and eventually most desol attacks. Keeps affects desol. The end costs on total desool is tremendous, so you have to figure buying 0 end will be a necessity as well. --instead, I would tweak the advantage/disadvantage amounts till you got costs equivalent to the current structure, but it is a fine approach. However, how does draining these powers work--do you lose the desol all together? do you suddenly gain for groups you are affected by?
  15. Re: Seventh Sanctum Rubbernurse Countess Rubber Priest Seducer ::must not make comment:: Brain Negator In his secret identity, he's an idea man for a Hollywood movie studio. Breathcide I've met thsi guy at a convention. Giant Leech I'm reminded for one of my players girlfriends... Uranium Howl The sound you make after too many burritos with fire sauce at Taco Bell. Dying Swimmer Only effective versus villains with codes vs killing, he pretends to drown, bringing them close for his powerful attack bought cheaply with No Range, requires lip contact. Sherriff Sinmariner Now this just sounds kinky. Berserk Paramour A villain seen every 28 days. Trembling Stranger Vulnerable to Presence attacks, no doubt. Eternal Explosion Ok, try rationalizing a secret ID with that name. Giggle Crusher Not a member of CLOWN. Semiclad What happens when you buy activation instant change and you have a cruel GM.
  16. Re: WWCYD: One for Many? Shaister scams the Dumb Necromancer, and watches without pity as the rest of the team finishes him off. Ranger and Hornet for once agree--no compromise with evil.
  17. Re: WWYCD: The Binder Shaister: would insert several zeros behind the listing of -base- points on his character, zero out his disads, and pour the points in a Cosmic based VPP, a skill pool, and would recreate a campaign standards sheet allowing only him to have 100d6 luck. For amusement Foxbat and Dr Destroyers Character sheets would be merged into one. Hornet would modify every 'evil' twited, psychologically unstable NPC villain to be a selfless, dedicated hero via psych advantage changes; the mercenary for hire types would be transformed into normal humans sans powers--just lots and lots of useless skills (well, useless for villains--very good if you want a stable, honest job) , but leave them with most of their disadvantages. Ranger--after stopping chortling with glee, would carefulyl study villains, make temporary alterations to them to make them vulnerable to common hero attacks. Sanction--a very dark vigiante I ran a few times--- would probably just remove the resistant defenses of his current target. He hates to get to fancy or complicated. Demon would just have a kicking RPG with funky sde effects for the real world until he realized what was up.
  18. Re: Who Do You Tthink Thay Will Lock Up In "Stronghold" (the book)? There's nothing inspiring, or flavorful about any of them; some are sort of embarassing. I say give us new villains with a better history, more interest and, unlike the Geodescics, not likely to be easily beaten by the PC team's collected DNPCs.
  19. Re: New Game; New Characters... oy vey General rules from this example : 1. Newbies--never let them make characters alone. You just waste time having to trash what they first do and start over. 2. Never let anyone new to your campaign, much less playing walk away to make a character without a copy of a sheet listing the campaign DC/Active point limitations. 3. Discuss your group/gaming philosophy, about the expected tradeoffs. (You can be this and this, but you can't be everything); perhaps even show sample characters. after getting the first broken character attempt: 4. Explain kindly that rearely does any character get through GM review without changes. 5. Remind the veterans about their first characters before they pass judgement on the guy. 6. Go over character concept. on't just say "you munched this character out and abused the rules" if you think he's just inexperienced--point out why certain combinations are not legal, not permitted in your campaign, or how the disadvantages as written would cripple the character. Tell him you won't allow the multiple meaningless limitations like vacuum or magnetic field--or that you'll be making sure that one or ther other show up rendering him useless with enough frequency as to justify the limitations. See if he really understood what those disadvatages meant. 7.By the end of the redesign know if you have a budding munchkin or not.
  20. Re: Most Feared Disadvantage Im my experience, the Most avoided #1 Unluck #2 Beserk (not enraged) #3 Susceptibilities to common substances on anythign less than an 8 hour exposure period (I had someone try suceptible--lack of sleep on a daily basis) vulnerabilities are pretty common in the groups I've played with..well, at least certain types--but certain levesl are ranges no one will take. I'll see 1.5 stun and body to fire, electricity, even magic occasionally, but never 4 and 5 below #4 Vulnerable to any Common attack (like all energy, or all hand to hand damage) #5 x2 Vulnerability to anything that shows up with any regualrity #6 Normal Characteristic maxima (in any game where such a rule isn't already in place) #7 Physical Limitations of any significant degree. I've had a few p[layers try to--but what they were claiming in points, and the actual disadvantage were nowhere near close. (Color Blind is not a 20 point disadvantage! Deaf in one ear is not a 15 point disadvantage, especially if you buy levels in hearing, active sonar, and claim there's no reason to penalize your PER rolls!)
  21. Re: Shrinking Issues The Disneyverse. It's a small world, after all.....::sings::
  22. Re: What are some interesting disadvantages you have used? Played a charcater who had a temporary mental disability--he had a DNPC that turned out just to be hallucination, the points on the GM's sheet really were for a psych limitation.
  23. Re: Adult themes in gaming, a rant of sorts Agreed--my dirty old man of a Mechwarrior character wasn't just looking for nasty girls..he specifically had a kink he wanted to try--bisexual midget siamese twins for a really twisted threesome..twosome..whatever. That cost a lot of money--he did it once, and after that he was happy. (and all occurances happened 'off screen'.) His thought: Somethings you do just so you can say you did them.
  24. Re: Shrinking Issues For the shrinking gun: Multipower--one slot is shrinking on yourself with side effects, with the understanding the side effects don't kick in against attributes/powers used against other characters shrunk to a similar size. Another slot, shrinking usable against other, inanimate objects. Final slot--transformation attack--target to shrunk version with whatever description you want said shrunk person to deal with as a disadvantage, so the effect you want is just that, without going into a really complicated rules build of shrink plus suppress this/that and the other.
  25. Re: A question about Viper and Until Thats exactly what I was aiming at--fear the organization for the numbers, but the individual agents should be none too fearsome. Large numbers slowly leaking in damage, harassing with grenades, are effect entangles, that sort of thing; I don't mind orgs having big guns, but the 20d6 heavy weapon team was a bit much for me to handle. I'll save that stuff for tanks and gunships. Same with trimming some of the skills on the specialty agents--some of those guys outclass skill based heroes. Save for big power armor tanks like Dr Destroyers guys (who i view more as fixed defenses for his headquarters), the word agent shouldn't be applied to anyone over 300 points. Silver Avengers, for example, I view as superheroes, no agents. I looked at my Primus supplement, and the armed to the teeth UNTIL book, and weaponry difference was just scary.
