    Stuck it here just cause.

Lately I've been printing the smaller hero books as booklet size 8.5x5.5 (11" on its side). Next up is the Pulp Hero adventures by Steve L. Along with some of the older modules.

A successful Move By does half of the character’s regular
STR damage plus (velocity/10)d6. The attacker himself takes
one-third of this damage (both STUN and BODY; appropriate
    defenses apply).

    • When a character performs either Maneuver with a
weapon, halve the character’s STR for purposes of the
STR Minimum (calculating extra damage or DC/OCV
penalties), and apply the damage normally taken by
the attacking character to the weapon instead.

    • Hand-To-Hand Attack damage adds to either
Maneuver if (and only if) the GM believes it makes
sense based on the Special Effects of the HA and the
Maneuver. If it adds, it adds to the overall damage (so
it isn’t halved along with STR for a Move By, and it
affects the damage the attacker himself takes).

    MOVE THROUGH
    (½ Phase; -v/10 OCV; -3 DCV)
Allows a character to attack at the end of a move by running
right into his target. If the attacker misses his target and has
meters of movement remaining in his Full Move, he keeps
traveling in a straight line; he may decelerate if he wishes. If he
doesn’t have meters of movement remaining in his Full Move, he
ends his Full Move at the target’s location.
If the character hits his target, he does his regular STR
damage plus (velocity/6)d6. The attacker himself takes one-half
of this damage (both STUN and BODY; appropriate defenses
apply). If the attack did no Knockback, then the attacker takes
the full damage instead (it’s like running into a wall).
If the attacker hits the target and doesn’t do Knockback,
or he hits the target at the end of his Full Move, he stops at the
target’s location (directly in front of the target). If he hits and
does Knockback, and has meters remaining in his Full Move, he
has his choice of three options:

I get the desire for representation, but I'm not sure we need to make a point of transgendered characters for a setting like this. I remember Steve Long being asked about gay/lesbian characters in Champions in a chat years ago, and he stated something along the lines of, he didn't feel he needed to underscore a character's sexuality, because that rarely has anything to do with their motivation or conduct as a hero or villain. He wrote that if a character's gender identity isn't specified, we should feel free to make it whatever our own game group wants.

I like the CU. I played in it A LOT.

I'd keep EVERYTHING. I'd keep the history the same. I'd incorporate old storylines that have been overwritten by newer incarnations, and try to unify them all into a coherent timeline. For example, The Guardians existed in the Eighties. VIPER went through all of its incarnations, and now is something that is a bit of all of them. Doctor Destroyer and Professor Muerte did their thing in the Eighties....now it's a new incarnation, perhaps the female clone that was talked about earlier, but maybe Dr. D's brain patterns still exist to advise his clone...something like that.

    IT ALL COUNTS.

The superteam, Champions, that has Seeker in it, they existed, but in the Nineties/early 2000's. Etc. They now have mostly a new roster.

But the emphasis would be on CONTINUITY, not on RE-IMAGINING. My whole philosophy would not be to pick and choose what happened and what didn't, it would be, "How can I work this so all of this happened and it all fits together?"

My personal peccadillo would be to change one thing: all of it happens in real cities, not in fictional cities. That being said, I don't mind the idea that Detroit was renamed Millennium City...I could be persuaded.

PS: If we couldn't get the rights to a certain character, we'd ask if he could at least be mentioned for posterity. Whose heart is so cold as to deny us that?

If I had it to do over, I'd rationalize the point totals on a lot of villains.  The Mega Threats like Destroyer, Mechanon, Menton, The Warlord, etc are *way* to high to actually use in a normal game.  Not every villain should be within reach of starting characters but the Destroyer is potentially straight up Killing most PCs built to standard recommended stats in like 2 hits with those 30D6 Destroyer-Beams while their 10-12 DC attacks are doing less than 5 stun to him.
I keep seeing people on the forums mention that they never use most of the iconic villains because they either need to be brought way down or they will just no-sell anything the heroes throw at them.  There needs to be a lot more of a range.
I'd love to see a lot more solo villains that are a match for a single hero instead of being designed to take on a team.  Sometimes a PC needs an antagonist more than the team needs one.

I agree with the others who would like to move the timeline up a bit.  Either move origins up so they started their villainy in 2017 or so or start passing the torch to a new generation.  At this point all origins that relate to WWII or Vietnam need to also include longevity as part of the power suite.  Someone who fought in WWII as a young adult is like 80 years old now.  Someone who got their powers in 1989 at the age of 22 is now 53 years old, which is ancient in the world of most supers comics.

Also: It's 2020, Red Winter has perhaps aged out as a concept.  They belong in a time travel adventure or need to be portrayed as crazy out of touch.  The Red & Gold Hammer & Sickle evil communists don't really work as a straight concept anymore.  Even their "trying to revive the Soviet Union" thing doesn't work when it's been gone for 25+ years.  Now that I think of it, Time-Travelling Communists who want to steal the tech of today to prop up the failing Soviet Union of 1987 actually sounds like a lot of fun......

I've found that since around 5th edition or so, Doctor Destroyer works better as a Thanos or Darkseid analogue than as a Doctor Doom analogue.  In which case I'd probably move him full time to his hidden nation of worshipers and I'd shift his minions to be less about the mental conditioning and more about the unbridled worship of a superior, visionary master.

Excellent point from Tjack about a hypothetical reboot being more centered on now, rather than locking in treatments of tropes as they were in past decades. Take VIPER, for instance: Sure, the CU needs a SPECTRE/HYDRA homage, but what's cool and meaningful in 2020 is not necessarily the same as it was in 1970.

For reasons of parsimony (and for historical campaigns) it's best to keep one VIPER that has operated for a long time, but the organization can have undergone drastic changes.

(I'd write out the giant magic snake, though. LL's idea of the Serpentine network as the true Supreme Serpent seems most suitable to me, to go with the contemporary anxieties about systems and organizations that run out of control, no longer serving even their creators and supposed masters.)

For "top-tier female powerhouse supervillain who's honorable," I favor Kayli the Destroyer, from Mike Surbrook's 5E Ninja Hero; whom he revised and upgraded even more in Digital Hero #35. That article also brought along her people, the Nekhojin (an homage to the "Saiyajin/Saiyans" from the Dragonball anime/manga); and integrated them into the Champions Universe, should one want to use that setting.

As far as 5E DEMON goes, of course you have the right to feel about them, and govern your use of them (or not), as you choose. For my part, I found Luther Black's story quite compelling, and his apotheosis scheme one of the grandest villain master plans in the comic tradition. Because of the compartmentalized structure of DEMON, I determined a variety of ways one could use them, almost as if they were several discreet groups each with their own style and focus. OTOH I found the Inner Circle often rather limited as opponents for PCs, so I made several modifications to them which IMO were consistent with their history and the way DEMON functions, and with the setting as a whole.

I'm using the San Angelo universe, the original of which was written while the fourth edition of Champions was in use.  There are no aliens in it, so no "Blue Boy" technology.  I'm leaning to making VIPER an international criminal organization instead of an international paramilitary organization, and I might even change its name.  DEMON's future is still up in the air, along with UNTIL.  PRIMUS, however, does exist.

We have had some examples along those lines in the Champions Universe, revolving around fictional countries on Champions Earth. Poor Guamanga in Central America was hit with both a coup attempt by ARGENT, and Menton manipulating them into voting for him as their president. Both of those were only temporary, though; for my use of the CU I kept Menton in charge, hiding his true identity. But ARGENT is closely allied with the Middle Eastern kingdom of Awad, and from behind the scenes effectively rules the nation of Chiquador in South America, and the city-state of Larisagrad in the Ural Mountains. Of course Doctor Destroyer is master of the hidden valley of Javangari in the Himalayas, where he's worshiped as a god. And Joseph Otanga is the superpowered dictator of Lugendu in West Africa. A few more such invented countries are ripe for takeover by the right villains: Costa Azul in the Caribbean, Lurranga in Central Africa, Taqiristan in Central Asia. (All of these are described in more detail in Champions Universe, Champions Universe: News Of The World, and Champions Worldwide.)

In the previous incarnation of the CU we had the Malachite Islands, dominion of the master geneticist Malachite (analogue to Teleios in many ways). I think it was implied that he raised them up around the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean, giving himself more territory. He also had IMO one of the best rationales for why the world community didn't just kick him out: he threatened to release deadly pathogens into the atmosphere if he was attacked.

The 4E The Mutant File also gave us the West African country of Unadai, a kind of anti-Wakanda utilizing both advanced technology and mysticism, whose king, Manadu Ayawan, is the product of eugenics and a vision to bring all of Africa under his "perfect" rule. He was one of the leaders of Genocide, but the pretext for him joining it always seemed rather flimsy to me. More recently I transferred much of that concept to Lurranga, mentioned above. (Lurranga is given little detail under 5E/6E, leaving it open for development; but much more in 4E.)

I like all the glorious messiness of the CU.

I might have some more of the big world-beater threats (individuals and maybe organizations) actually conquer their own countries to help explain why they aren't out there trying to conquer the world every day. Once you get busy running a country, it probably dawns on you how much of a drag that trying to run a world would be. A couple of countries in Africa, a couple of countries in South America, a couple of countries in Asia, and a few island nations would cover it. Heck even with moderate power levels, you could conquer an island nation that no other country cares enough to defend. You could even have some nations invite in some powered person to take over to try to straighten out their messes.

I might suggest something like that in wikiworld.

I don't have a problem with the concept of Doctor Destroyer (duh, just look to your left ), but as presented he's more of a cliche than an actual character. All he amounts to is intellect, arrogance, and power. There's no depth, no layers, no shadings. Apologies to Steve Long, whose writing I admire for many of its strengths; but I feel he really missed a great opportunity to put some role-playing meat on DD's megalomaniacal bones when he wrote Book Of The Destroyer. Albert Zerstoiten's past as outlined there is full of people and incidents that should have been elaborated to show how he became the man he is today, but they were almost wholly bypassed. Destroyer's personality seems to have emerged almost full-blown, like Athena from the forehead of Zeus.

When you say "bellybutton" storage, are you saying that there is a pocket dimension where the bellybutton otherwose would be? Or a hollow space behind the bellybutton, which takes the place of the stomach? Or that the skin of the stomach stretches over whatever is pushed into there, so you could theoretically carry, say, a medicine ball (as a ludicrously heavy example) or a ten foot pole (as a ludicrously awkwardly shaped example) and just have that distending the stomach out of all proportion, but successfully carrying things?

    Some Languages could also help.

I honestly don't feel like the CU needs a hard reboot. I'm quite happy with the way it is, at least overall. Certainly I would, and have, made many tweaks, shifted stuff around, filled in what I thought were blank spaces, but overall I consider it a solid framework for four-color supers gaming, which is my personal preference.

For my part, I don't feel pigeonholed in MC. It's nice to have a developed city as a home base if you want one, but there's plenty of super activity in many of America's major cities. We also have Vibora Bay as a completely fictional alternative city. There isn't much of a bar to moving many people and groups from those cities to whatever location you prefer. I've also noticed that most of the official published villains aren't tied to a specific location -- there's no reason they can't show up wherever you want to base your campaign.

The only thing I would like to do is continue to advance the time line. It's getting to the point where some older characters should be retiring, and new blood needs to be introduced. I know that would have happened if Hero Games had continued to publish CU setting books.

Hero Designer is character generation software.  And that's it.  It has all the core rules for character generation but that's it. (See GB(i)'s post for clarification.  This statement could've been really, really confusing and I didn't notice that until just now)

The Downloads/Store section should give you some screenshots of the HD interface and some of the user uploaded export templates usually have the preview screen shots as well.

Again, I believe Hero Designer is worth the investment if you're planning on running a game.
