  1. I once did a scenario where I put an alien colony ship out at Pluto. Earth Astronomers called it Charon . They had been visiting earth for decades, in their flying saucers. A race which spreads itself through space, without ships, might be interesting. The life does not necessarily have to be sentient, btw. Alternatively, you could stick a "lost civilization" on Pluto. What they are doing out there is open to question. Possible reasons: 1) Alien refugees/criminals, hiding from authority 2) Space pirates, their piracy gets blamed on the people of earth 3) Crashed spaceship 4) Go the Cthulthu route, and put the Mi-Go there. 5) Hideout for some Earth criminal, combine with option above.
  2. Agree with Battlestaff on the costume bit. By its nature, Distinctive Features are those characteristics that make you identifiable. Anything that is a focus, or removable, IMHO, cannot qualify. It would be like a plainsclothes policeman taking a DF: Badge in pocket. A Beat Cop tries to get DF: Police uniform. However, since he spends much of his time around other cops, this doesn't make him distinctive. DF should make you distinctive, in whatever group you are in. I see nothing wrong with multiple distinctive features, btw.
  3. Hmm...I had a research lab develop the PRIMUS process back in the 1970's, in my campaign. It allowed the creation of superstrong people. Since then, the process has been privatized. (PRIMUS still has their own). If you pay enough money, you can get powers. Superstrength and some form of regeneration are the most common. As a side note, IMC, the process was originally designed to help paralyzed veterans from Vietnam. It got sidetracked when it proved more effective than envisioned, and is now a Heartless Medical Organization. (HMO)
  4. The hard part sounds like getting his computer to be abe to control the vehicle. It's actually pretty simple. Build the computer, as a computer. Build the vehicle, as a vehicle. Buy both High-range radio. Buy the computer the Skill, "Drive vehicle" Letting the playe get away with this, is up to you, of course.
  5. Some of these predate Pulp a bit: Edgar Rice Burroughs http://burroughs.thefreelibrary.com/ Arthur Conan Doyle http://doyle.thefreelibrary.com/ Alexandre Dumas http://dumas.thefreelibrary.com/ Jules Verne http://verne.thefreelibrary.com/
  6. Could do it just as a disadvantage: (as the Agent) Accidental Change: turns into cougar (with Cougar intelligence) when without choker. Then buy the multiform normally. (as the cat) A Physical limitation, stating she needs the choker to keep her intelligence. One or the other should do.
  7. How can I top Boa's list? (King Snake is a major villain IMC) Snake Charmer Snakeman Supersnake Adam (as in Genesis) Boy Snake (started career early) The Spitter (named by Rival) The Biter (named by teacher) El Nagal As a side note, possible HQ's for the Naga http://www.naga.gov.ph/ http://www.angelfire.com/mo/Nagaland/
  8. You are assuming that the Internet contains any knowledge. I agree with the high-range radio hearing. You could also buy the skill cramming, for the computer.
  9. If you are playing Champions, I would recommend Conquerors, Killers and Crooks. It provides a number of character examples, all villains. If you are new to the system, this will give you examples of how to build a character. Even if you are adapting an comic universe's characters, the book is valuable for the examples. There are also scenario iseas for every character in the book.
  10. Well, it could be that to use the jet-jump mode it has to use a special fuel. Buy the extra flight with the charges limitation, with the charges lasting for several minutes. This is how I usually handle jetpacks. You get the effect you want, but don't have to keep track of a lot of math.
  11. Hope I'm not repeating myself yet... 40) Green Liberation: VIPER supports revolutionaries in a middle eastern nation, causing them to overthrow the government. Now VIPER can make all their favorite nest leaders ambassadors, with diplomatic immunity. They can speak before the UN, and cut UNTIL's funding. Should any nation attempt to invade/destabilize their chosen country, they will blackmail and bribe the media into supporting them. The flag of the nation is...Green. The name of the nation is...Libya. How long has VIPER been controlling it...unknonwn. 41) Recyling Drive: A few months ago, the heroes defeated a plot by VIPER. Now, all the equipment and supplies that were captured from the villainous agents are being taken to an offshore facility, where they will be destroyed. Unfortunately for the heroes, VIPER has decided they want their stuff back. Several of the heroes may be escorting the cargo, along with someone from the press who will be held hostage. Option: Replace offshore facility with "rail line" facility for train mayhem. 42) Green Dawn: VIPER has a new metahuman working for them...a metahuman with such great power, that none can withstand it. His name is Ted Rogers. He is able to change the color of anything he looks at...green. With this awesome power, VIPER has been sending him out to nests around the world. He threatens to turn some warship, monument, or national leader green, unless they pay the local nest a ransom. Last week it was the Eiffel Tower...today it is a target in the campaign city. Can the Heores defeat this menace while retaining their original color scheme? 43) The Interview: The heroes have defeated every nest that has ever appeared in their city. They use VIPER armor in their target range, and tell VIPER jokes during press conferences. They have no fear. Unfortunately, VIPER has decided to make an example of them. A vacancy has opened up on the Council of 30, and VIPER says the agent or nest leader who takes care of the heroes gets it, along with 25 million in cash. Suddenly, VIPER agents are running all over the city...along with nest leaders from around the world. Even a few non-VIPER villains here about it, and decide to try their luck. Will anything survive the mayhem that is unleashed? Option: have this happen to an NPC team, PC's come to help. 44) Snake Charmers: VIPER decides to branch into the occult...the snake way. For the last few months, VIPER nests have been stealing anything occult they can get their hands on. Investigations will reveal that the stuff is not being kept locally, instead it is being shipped through intermediaries to a quiet village in subsaharan Africa. There, living in retirement, is one of the last of the VIPER sorcerors, forced out in a power struggle decades ago. It seems a powerful mystical force is preparing to enter our reality, and only VIPER is prepared and able to stop it. Its a threat VIPER has stopped before. Will the heroes team up with the snakes to save the world?
  12. This sounds like the way I will do it. I wanted Horus to be able to withdraw his magical support, and this seems to be the way to do it. I got the idea from reading up on egyptian mummification, they used to remove all the organs and put them in sealed jars. They would sometimes do it with the brain, usually they would toss it out. I figured he would be useful for mystical plot hooks and what not.
  13. Not quite what I am looking for. The general idea is a guy who knows nothing about magic, yet is able to cast really powerful spells. The jar will be sitting back in his house on a shelf, a "mystical link" will prvide the power to cast the spells. Duplication might work, but if he is on all the time then it would pretty much be a follower. I wonder if I could build it as a computer?
  14. I've had this character idea buzzing around in my head for weeks, and have no idea how to write it up. Basicly, guy finds a ancient egyptian jar, containing the disembodies brain on the Egyptian God, Horus. God thanks dude for finding the jar, and uses him to fight for justice and goodness. As for the powers, I'm leaning towards a multipower, but I want the effect to be that its actually Horus casting the spells. He is simply using the character as conduit/pack mule. The dominant character (PC) of the two is supposed to be the guy who found the jar, not the brain in a jar.
  15. Blame Hermit for this muck. I do. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=226521#post226521 Couch Champions Scene: Doctor Silverback’s private office. A broken couch has been pushed into the corner, and the Champions are sitting on the floor. Doctor Silverback is leaning back in a leather chair, notepad in hand. Doctor Silverback: “I’d like to thank you all for coming in. I know how busy you all are with your schedules…I’ll try to keep this brief.†Defender: “That’s Great! I mean…Thank you for taking the time to see us Doctor Silverback.†Ironclad: “I don’t really understand the need for this ‘session.’ I have had years of combat training and experience, and this floor is unsuitable for one of my status.†Sapphire: “Well you did break the Doc’s couch, I-C.†Ironclad: “That was not my fault! Earth furniture is too delicate!†Doctor Silverback: “Of course Drogan. Did you have furniture growing up?†Nighthawk: “Oh, here we go…blaming the parents already Doc?†Doctor Silverback: “I am doing no such thing. You are all required to undergo psychiatric counseling every 3 months, if you want to keep your status with the city. Drogan has yet to relate to the group the experiences of his childhood…neither have you, come to think of it. Nighthawk: “I was never a child…†Witchcraft: (interrupting) “Weren’t we discussing my childhood last session?†Sapphire: (Groaning) “No…must…avoid…Witchcraft’s…childhood…†Doctor Silverback: “Now Sapphire, we have talked about your childhood for the last three sessions. Today, I was hoping…Defender, are you alright?†Defender: (Sits unmoving. Faint music can be heard coming from his armor) Doctor Silverback: “Defender?†Nighthawk: (Attaches listening device to Defender’s armor) “Heh. He’s alive.†(Removes listening device) Doctor Silverback: (getting annoyed) DEFENDER! Defender: (activates external microphone) “Yes Doctor? Is the city in danger?†Doctor Silverback: “What is that music? Are you playing Tetris in there?†Defender: (Tetris music stops) “No.†Witchcraft: “Since Defender doesn’t want to be helped, can I be helped instead?†Doctor Silverback: “We won’t be doing that today. Today, Defender is going to tell us about his childhood.†Defender: “OK…there isn’t much to tell. Like a lot of people I guess, I was born to wealthy parents, who made millions pursuing the American dream. I mean…my Dad was a war hero, how could I compete with that?†Sapphire: “Join the Army?†Defender: “Get serious. I needed to do something no one else in my family had done…something that they would all respect…I needed to get my painting on the wall…†Doctor Silverback: “Excuse me? Your painting on the wall?†Defender: “Yes…all the famous people in my family who have truly achieved something have their paintings put up on the wall. It’s a tradition.†Sapphire: “A lame one.†Defender: “Hey! That’s my family you are talking about! If I could tell you who they are, what they have done for the country, for the world…you would be so impressed!†Sapphire: “I know who your family is.†Defender: “You do? How!†Sapphire: “Followed you home one day. Was bored.†Defender: “You…you…violated a sacred trust between heroes, between teammates! The secret identity is one of the most important codes of the Superhero community! You can’t just…†Nighthawk: (interrupting) “I know who you are to. It’s no big deal.†Defender: “You! How do you know?†Nighthawk: “DNA analysis. I had you narrowed down to a list of 17 possible candidates, and once I went to the cemetery, I figured out who you were.†Defender: (Standing up) “You dug up my Grandfather? How could you!†Nighthawk: “Witchcraft said I could. She said it was important.†Defender: (panicking) “So Witchcraft knows my secret identity also? I can’t believe this…Witchcraft! Why did she need to dig up my grandfather? I’ve been trying to find out who did that for months!†Witchcraft: “I needed a component of one of your ancestors to complete my potion… Sapphire: “You mean a love potion? Don’t you?†Witchcraft: “Uhmm…No. Of course not. That would be wrong. I’m good. Really. (smiles) Defender: “This is just great! Everyone knows my secret identity! I’m doomed!†Ironclad: (bored) “I don’t know it. Don’t really care.†Nighthawk: “Witchcraft doesn’t know your secret identity, I didn’t tell her the results of my analysis. I decided she was a security risk.†Sapphire: “That’s probably a good idea…she is a bit of a loudmouth.†Witchcraft: “ Hey!†Sapphire: “So Nighthawk…who else is a security risk?†Nighthawk: “Can’t tell you. You’re a security risk.†Doctor Silverback: “ Well, this has all been very illuminating, but I’m afraid we are out of time.†Ironclad: (standing up) “Really?†Doctor Silverback: “Yes, I’m afraid so. I think we have made some real progress today. I’m going to pass your team for another 3 months, you all fall within the normal ranges for your social group.†Defender: “Yes!†(Team starts giving high-fives each other, stops when Ironclad tries to join in) (The Champions troop out, Witchcraft talking about her childhood. Doctor Silverback quickly closes the door behind them) Doctor Silverback: (Looks sadly at his destroyed couch) “So many memories…†(The Doctor lens back in his chair, and props his feet up on his desk…several minutes pass, and a screw falls upon his chest) Doctor Silverback: “What the? (Looks up) (Another screw falls out of the ventilation duct, above his head. Doctor Silverback removes a heavily customized .45 automatic from his desk drawer, and points it toward the ceiling. The final screw falls out, and the ventilation grate clatter to the floor) Foxbat (sticking head out of the duct) “Hey Doc! I came for my appointment!â€
  16. http://www.devermore.net/surbrook/herosource/newdisads.html Like this? (I use a modified version of it) Haven't seen UNTIL yet.
  17. I was thinking case character sheets originally, Age is a disadvantage that pops up more in the non-powered hero stuff. You could be right. The "infant-toddler" age bracket would be useful for DNPC's, and the future supplement "PreSchool HERO". Really like the idea of defining it by age groups. That would be very useful I imagine to fantasy and star hero, if the chart could be easily adapted to other races.
  18. One of the reasons I did it as a seperate disadvantage: Consider the X-Mena, and the various annoying relationships within. Clearly there are rivalries there...but they romances don't seem to rise to the level of psych limitations. As a side not, a "Romance" could touch upon physical, psychological, and social aspects. Its all in how its played. Also remember the entire heroic genre is to be considered.
  19. ~Stats for babies and teenagers. ~A listing of what actually are the starting stats for the average poerson of each age. "Normal" is pretty obvious, but does age 60+ mean they start with 0 Str, Con, and Body, with a max of 10?
  20. Well, first of all, it can be used to simulate stuff like epileptic siezures and flashbacks. It can also be used to do the mentally unstable, whose psych limitations might change at a moments notice. DC characters of Two-Face and Guy Gardner spring to mind.
  21. Sanity is for the weak. (Could happen) The Black Pope sounds interesting.
  22. My most hated villain was Peter Minuit, the guy who bought Long Island from the Indians for a box of trinkets. Kidnapped by aliens centuries ago, he returned to Earth as a deranged cyborg with plans to conquer Long Island and return it to...The Dutch. As a pseudo-Dutch villain, I was able to indulge in my protestant neo-Fascism fantasies, without using a German Nazi stereotype! He was a bit like Brainiac I guess...had a huge army of robots, his own spaceship, was hunted by the aliens he stold the robots/space ship from. Was as close as I ever came to a villain who wanted to take over "New York City". What made the players hate him (beside by cheesy dutch accent), was his insane ability to profit from any situation, no matter what they did to him. The guy always made money at the end.
  23. Ugh...High School... Well, nowadays, they are trying to steer almost everyone in High School to college. Which of course, means they learn nothing (heh, like in college) I doubt any skills would be above familiarity, and you could buy the psych limitation "ignorant" Linguist, scholar, scientist...no buying any of those. But then I am probably incredibly biased. I used to teach High School.
  24. Find and stalk forums used by people who play Sci-Fi based RPGs. Traveller (in its many variants) and Star wars are the only real competition, and as a game system they can't really compete. About 30% of the game stores I have been to carry HERO stuff, few of them have Star Hero stuff. Get them to carry it. Even if new players are attracted that only use the game system, its still a success.
