  1. Re: Good bye I can't beleive I wasted 10 minutes reading this thread. Nobody ever wins an argument in a forum, and that goes back to "which Star Trek show is better" topics. Its pointless. Yet there are always people who try. All you ever do is drive someone away, and that isn't winning an argument. Keep this stuff in the NGD forum, thats why its there. That way, I can read the rest of the forums in peace.
  2. Re: Help! I created a PC without thinking of good plot ideas for them! 1. His old gang contacts him, and wants him to start distributed (minor) drugs to the other students. The only problem is the drugs are actually supplied by some criminal organziation, like VIPER, and will cause people's powers to go haywire. (Hunted, Old Gang) 2. As above, but the criminal organization has revealed itself and threatens/blackmails poor sludge into being their spy at the school. (Watched, criminal organization) 3. As 1, but the supplier of the drugs is the coach of the football team. 4. Nothing seems done about his family, you could make them the source of plots. Have his father be an incompetent politician, who is always saying stupid things, causing foreign leaders to send assassins after him. 5. Sludge falls in with a new gang, who admire his "whiteness". Wil lhe become a model Aryan? Or are they just using him. 6. A person who looks just like Sludge commits crimes in the nearby town. Has poor Sludge developed a form of sleepwaling, gone crazy, or is his exact double running about?
  3. Re: How to kill a PC? 1. Aztec God awakens, sacrifices thousands of tourists on the streets of Mexico City. Heroes show up to stop him/her. Unknown to the heroes, the sacrifices are necessary...to keep even worse evil at bay. Big evil/elder god type shows up, causes all the volcanoes around MExico City to erupt, end of the world. 2. Same as above, but set in Hawaii. 3. Aliens invade, demand heroes surrender themseles or they will destroy the earth. Aliens then use heores as subjects of experiments, to creat alien supes. New heroes battle alien supes. 4. Asteroid! A large asteroid is hurtling to the Earth, and only the heroes can stop it by jumping in some guys experimental rocket. Only problem is, if they use their powers, they break their suits. 5. I recently did one where the a hero team learned that they were to commit unspeakable evil deeds, in the near future. Rather than commit these deeds, they faked their deaths, and removed themselves from Earth. 6. However the heroes die, their deaths prove to be the catalyst that causes the new heroes to get thei powers.
  4. Re: Help with Japanese villains if you are looking for a few more ideas... My players all time favorite japanese WWII super, was the unnamed zero pilot. He was utterly fearless and deadly, while in his plane. If he were killed, as long a lock of hair or fingernail remained in his ancesteral shrine in Hiroshima, he would come back to life there. He would then jump into a new plane, and fly back to the battle. The picture I used for him. And yes, the character idea is based on the fact that this actor played a lot of japanese pilots, in a lot of movies. http://starbulletin.com/2000/04/29/editorial/art.jpg Also, for inspiration on unusual WWII japanese supes, check out this guys history. http://www.fightingmaster.com/masters/oyama/index.htm
  5. Re: Is this sick or what? My villain team of female battlesuit operators has had several pregnencies and births. Several of them carry their babies around with them in their modified mechs. Most evil baby plot I think I ever ran was the immortal leader of the Evil Space Empire who gave birth to a baby boy. While teaching the baby how to teleport (like her), the baby vanishes and is never seen again. 8,000 years later, she discovers that he teleported himslef to Earth, grew up to be Gilgamesh, and a large number of Earth's heroes are descended from him. She of course, treates them all as lost babies...
  6. Re: Starbase Floorplans hit deckplans, need excel. http://www.starfrontiers.org/maps.asp A bit mall-like.
  7. Re: Need clues and style of lackeys for a kidnap plot I think a diversion should be used. A flunky is hired/summoned to cause trouble. While a second group does the actual kidnapping. This spreads out the team you have (who by their powers are probably capable of tracking down the threat) into two groups, to follow each lead. Later, the two story leads will merge. As a red herring at the actual hospital, they discover an unscupulous intern is harvesting organs from patients, to sell to the wealthy. Seems he has a student loan to payoff. If the villain is an occult villain, he may just raise all the dead in the morgue, or summon a ghost to cause trouble in the hospital. (who wants revenge against a doctor, of course)
  8. Re: The City/Hero Connection Orlando, Florida. It is a very interesting idea. Would Philadelphia get a boxer? It would be an interesting way to develop a universe. Spiderman only really works in NYC...I remember a comic issue where he considered moving to Kansas City...
  9. Re: Villain Group! Alternative way: Build the robot as a normal character, and the cyborgs to assemble them as his DNPC's. Then build limitations into the giant robots powers, such as cannot use flamethrower unless the DNPC who has the flamethrower is present. This would certainly satisfy the desired pathetic aspect. Plots would revolve around them not all being available, and the DNPC's may refuse to attack at certain times... DNPC #1: Together we can defeat Godzilla! DNPC #2: Wait a minute, there is only one of them right? That makes him and endangered species! I can't be part of any crimes against the environment...I'm going home. DNPC #3: Pinko bastard! Get back here with the railgun! DNPC #4: Uh-oh, looks like Godzilla is preparing to do a jump-kick...
  10. Re: So I have some Golden Age Characters in outer space... You can stay in the Champions Universe, and still introduce new aliens Just have them be a declining civilization, or have them get blown up. Think: Visiting Krypton before it is destroyed. Of course, for Golden Age, you need some pseudo Nazi-aliens for the players to beat up on. And you can have them meet other humans...just have them be ones the aliens abducted, put in their zoo, are the main course in the cafeteria, or were fired into space by the giant russsian cannon. You can even have the aliens have a base on earth, just put it underwater. Oceanic exploration was very rudimentary back then (pre Jacque Cousteau) So far as evil aliens go, my players "classic" favorite are the sentient octopus. They are evil, racist, and want our oceans.
  11. Re: Good places to have battles...and stuff Ones I've used ~Reunion Island, in the Indian ocean (Aquatic aliens invaded) ~The great Canadian invasion of Newfoundland (its fisherman had declared their independence) ~Fidel Castro's House ~Bill Gates House (the supercomputer went crazy) ~The Alien moonbase ~A wedding, where ninjas attacked ~The ruins of Mogadishu
  12. Re: Help me create an Alien Arena Sport You could also take sports from Earth's past, and "reinvent" them, for aliens Examples of ancient sports, that somehow aren't in the olympics... ~Chariot racing ~most real equestrian games ~jousting ~combat sports that are no longer practiced. We still have archery as a n event, but where are the quarterstaffs? Just plain wierd ideas ~a strategy game, similar to chess. The players are the pieces, and must battle for squares. ~Basketball (or any other "ball" game), with the ball controlled psionicly (either telepathy or telekinesis) ~Boxing on trampolines (obscure Prisoner reference)
  13. Re: Ideas for a Solo Adventure I've always found it important, when doing a scenario for a new character, is to make sure all their powers get used. Kind of a road test for the conception. So: Flight High Defenses Mind Scan Telekinetic Mind Control Therefore: While practiciing flying with her DNPC (or avoiding, if DNPC doesn't know secret identity), she is struck by an attack, which her defenses protect her from. Using her Mind Scan, she quickly located the culprit, and subdues him with her telekinesis. Using her Mind Control, she gets the opponent to tell her everything. The opponent reveals that he mistook her for another super-type person (either hero or villain), whom he was hired to attack, by one of her hunteds. Other people were also hired. Can she prevent the attack before it happens, and why is the attack occuring?
  14. Re: The fall of the Soviet Union sucked. Having all those soviet superhoeroes getting invloved in policits could be fun...they could either run for office, or battle the corrupt governments. For those of you who want commie villains running around, and don't want to make up countries... North Korea is scarier than any nation Doctor Doom commands http://www.korea-dpr.com/pmenu.htm The leader of Turmenistan (ex-soviet Republic) is known for being somewhat...odd. Here is a sample of his latest project: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3554626.stm Belarus has been called the last Stalinist state. Their sports minister was recently banned from going to the Olympic games. http://www.freeserbia.net/Articles/2001/Stalinism.html Nationalistic, economic, ethnic, and military tensions can provide plenty of plot ideas. You have an entire empire collapsing, that doesn't happen every day. Terrorist enemies can be fun, but nothing beats nationalistic rivalries.
  15. Re: Loony conspiracy theories Just an idea, really. One of my players was thumbing through the Champions Universe, before a play session (I use a homebrewed campaign). He asked me who were these guys who had died fighting Doctor Destoyer? Somewhat annoyed, since I was reviewing my notes at the time, (I had given them the book to look at to keep thenm quiet), I offhanded said. The Dynamic Duo, Mister Plow and the Plow King. I put it my sig, because I wanted to see if anyone would get it. I'll probably change it to something else soon.
  16. Re: Loony conspiracy theories Stonehenge was built to trap aliens, the true rulers of earth. The Pyramids used to be gold plated, and powerful sources of magical energy. The "secret conspiracy running the US government" is based out of the IRS. Bermuda Triangle leads to another world, called Atlantis. Over the centuries, the people who have accidently gone through it have conquered the poor Atlanteans and established an imperialistic culture. Whith themselves on top, of course. The saucer aliens lived on the moon, and were abducting superhumans to fight in their galactic war. VIPER is run by the aliens are fighting, and was started by the Roswell aliens. The saucer aliens took Hitler with them, and made him a general. He immediately started a revolt, and has rallied many human abductees to his side, to try and conquer the saucer aliens. The great wall of China is an ancient anti-spacecraft defense system, that erects a giant force field over China, should it be targeted by missiles. Fidel Castro of Cuba controls a Stargate, and is sending teams to other worlds to spread communism. The Trojan war was fought between bronze age greeks and a trading post established by aliens. Odysseus and the Illiand chronicle his adventures in outer space, when he accidently blasted off in a trojan space ship. Pluto is an alien colony/refugee ship, charon is its supply of fuel. (Ramjet time!) The Dali Lama is the most powerful being on Earth, but can only use those powers against galactic level threats to the cosmos. He swore an oath not to misuse hius awesome powers. No threat has yet to appear.
  17. Re: The Executive Branch I would suggest the name "Executive Sanction" First, this idea has been done before. The Destroyer book series has gone over a hundred books with this plot idea. In their case, the secret agency was formed by Kennedy, before his death, to restore order to a shattered nation. They operated outside the government completely, and had almost no bureaucracy. Only the Presidents new of their existance. The agency was created by a secret executive order. Executive orders allow the executive branch to do pretty much anything, and are fully legal. They only had one main operative, and his trainer. However, if something happened to that operative, they might try and get people from outside. So how to run it in a campaign? Professor X never forms the X-Men, and decides to go work for the government instead. He becomes an information analyst for the CIA (or NSA, or FSB, or whoever). His builds a super computer, thats boosts his minor psionic powers. He can only use this computer, once a day, on one person, to completely probe their mind. He contacts a sitting President while they are pissed off with someone in the world (not that hard). The President gives him funding, afterwards Professor X (or whoever), uses money taken from criminals to fund his operation. He has the power to abolutely determing guilt or innocence, once a day. All he needs is someone to carry out the sentence. And soemoen to give him his list of targets. He uses his vast psionic powers (boosted by the computer), to prevent any of his former executioners from talking to anyone about what they did, except other executioners. If that background is to boring, change his nationality. Who says it has to be the US running around executing supervillains? I've always wondered what the Grand Duke of Luxembourg really does...
  18. Re: Your superhero games, comic-based or comic-opposed? Good question. One pproblem with Superhero gaming, is the fact you are translating a visual medium into (usually) a non visual one. ORiginally, I played my campaign as comic-superheroic, but it was based on mostly independent comics. Some of which are so obscure, it isn't worth mentioning them. The old champions comic was actually a pretty big influence. Often, it actually read like a scenario, rather than a comic. Another was the Justice League, back when they were funny. In the last few years, most of my campaigns have come from reading sci-fi, instead of comics. Only comic I read regularly any more is Savage Dragon. That should tell you something. I found that I wanted more science/reality in my gaming, that I wanted to have more about the "why" the universe was the way it was, rather than concentrating on the fantastic. I do use a lot of visualization today. I take pictures off the net, paste them into ecel, and print them out. So far, my players like it a lot, providing visual pictures of locations/people.
  19. Re: Timelines I found my secret timeline very useful, for when I started my campaign. Basicly listed events for the past 50,000 years, so I could keep the campaign on course, and focused. More recent events are usually kept track of by the players.
  20. Re: New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front Nice to here the MP may energe, once again. So far as the Timeline products, "Holy Warriors" is a good buy, for those interested in the crusades as a campaign area. Full of very useful info.
  21. Re: The Mystic World and Aliens The way I handled this, is only Earth actually has alternate worlds/access to other dimensions. This also explains why everyone keeps invading it, and provides a reason for the "whatever" that allows superpowers.
  22. Re: Redundant Internal Organs A lot would depend on if this is a character, or a whole race with similar abilities. Extra body is probably a must, so is con. Based upon the theory that reduncy increases efficiency, extra speed is not out of the question. Extra spinal cord...faster reactions/perception? A cow has 4 stomachs, to help it digest grass. An extra stomach could allow stange things to be eaten (LS: less food needed) A race would probably need extra oxygen, to power all this stuff. The organs might also be underpowered...a human can survive on one lung and one kidney, but we are designed for two.
