  1. Re: Where does it show the price list for Hero system equipment guide. Do you mean monetary costs? Because the Active and Real costs (point costs) are listed in each table (under "A/R Cost").
  2. Re: The cranky thread What if this were heaven? Wouldn't that be hell?
  3. Re: Second Best Game System ? I played a superhero game at a con a year or so back, but I can't recall what it was. Pretty sure it was one of the Forge's offerings. Very story-centric, but also very meta-game. There was a rule in place that essentially said, "In comic books, when the hero fights the villain he always loses the first two times they battle. Then the third time he always wins. So we've created a mechanic that guarantees a loss the first two times you meet the villain, and guarantees a win in the final confrontation." It was based on playing cards, and the GM got a huge number of cards for the first two battles, and then got only a couple in the final battle. I didn't actually like it very much; it was way too meta. Each outcome was already pre-ordained, so there was no suspense and very little interest.
  4. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!! I think the reason I kind of like attending live games is because when I was a kid, my dad would take me to Astros baseball games (and later to Nuggets and Rockies games after we moved to Colorado). I don't really care about the games so much, but there's maybe a touch of nostalgia and a little bit of the excitement of "being there." But sports on TV don't have any of that.
  5. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!! Yup. There's no more effective a bunneh repellant than televised sports. When The Fluffy Apocalypse comes, you can keep me out of your house just by turning on the football game. OTOH, that's no defense against indirect-fire weapons.
  6. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Congratulations, E84!
  7. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Yeah. Especially when you work in the adult entertainment industry!
  8. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!! I don't know if this is geek cred or anti-geek cred (or neutral), but I hate televised sports. Just hate them. The surest way to drive me out of a room is to turn on "the game." Funny thing is, I don't mind attending sporting events -- I actually like going to them. But turn them on TV and it's Goodbye Bunneh.
  9. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Bigbywolfe is correct. I work in the Adult Entertainment industry.
  10. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I don't mind sweet potato fries and I don't mind sweet potato pie, but I haven't found any other way that I'll eat 'em. And note, that's "don't mind" not "like".
  11. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore What are jojos?
  12. Re: Newbie to HERO needing advice about world building Welcome Madfable! I don't really have anything to add to Steve and Gojira's posts, but I'd just like to say that I'm a world-builder too, and I've never found a game system as amenable to DYI-ers like myself as HERO is. I build my own magic systems, tweak monsters, create martial arts styles, give fighters and rogues unique special powers to match the wizards, and on and on. I used to be a GURPS guy and I still have a lot of fondness for that system, but Hero gives me the tools I need to build my settings the way I want them.

    A Riddle:

Re: A Riddle: In my UNITY 2020 game, one of the players had a character named Mittarbeit (German for "cooperation") who had a huge variety of Aid powers. She was strictly a buffer; her role in combat was to juice up the other PCs, heal them when they got knocked down, that sort of thing. It worked OK in play. Not great, but OK. She was mostly satisfied with the character.
  14. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore What that video doesn't show is whether any of them survived the experience.
  15. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!! Agreed. That scene really made me grin. I have the second book (of the Final series) but I haven't read it yet; I want to be able to read the whole series all the way through. Let me know when the final book is out, will ya?
  16. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Me: (At the beginning of the tour) The office looks pretty much like any normal business. Cubicals, offices, people working. But every once in a while, you'll walk past someone's desk and there'll be hard-core pr0n on their computer. So it can be a little surreal. Her: (Almost at the end of the tour) Huh. I dunno. So far it doesn't seem that surreal. It seems just like a normal office to me. ...Oh my god, that guy's watching porn on his computer!!! Me: (Deadpan) Ayup. Pretty surreal, huh?
  17. Re: Starting a Hero System Podcast .... who is interested? I'd be happy to be a guest any time. If you think the show can handle the awesome that is teh bunneh!
  18. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Oh, well that makes perfect sense then. I know I bring in a hammer and an attitude every time I go to check out a book or DVD.
  19. Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Where the heck did you work?
  20. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I love a good jambalya! :yum:
  21. Re: Destroy Your Geek Cred!! And here I thought Mhoram and myself were the only Covenent fans on these boards. I also liked the Elric books, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books, and Conan books. Of course, I read most of them when I was in my teenage years. I re-read some of the Conan short stories again recently. Howard can certainly write well, although the subject matter became rather repititious for me after the fourth or fifth story.
  22. Re: Why I prefer HERO System over Pathfinder/OGL/D&D for fantasy I settle that by running all my FH games in the same world. I've already got the magic system created that I want, the professional packages, the race packages, and so on. I tweak them now and again, but it's all pretty much already built.
