  1. Not a wrestling expert, but as far as lifting goes I believe the liftee can help out -- position himself to give the lifter better leverage, for instance. (I have a friend who hates Big Show because he refuses to help anyone lift him.) How about allowing the liftee to "loan" his casual STR to the lifter, only to get the liftee into the air? Example: The Cruiser (STR 13) has not only talked Lardman (STR 18, 500 pounds) into a match, but convinced him to let the Cruiser try to lift him. 500 pounds is roughly 227 kg if I'm doing the conversion correctly, and the Cruiser's normal lift is 150 kg. If Lardman plays along and helps with the lift, the Cruiser's effective STR for the lift only is 13+9=22, more than enough to lift Lardman. If Lardman is a jerk and decides not to cooperate, the only way Cruiser's getting him off the mat is to push his STR to 18.
  2. Well, "with a bullet" doesn't fit ... The Ultimate Vehicle made number 6 on the Warehouse 23 top ten sellers for March (non-SJ Games).
  3. A friend of mine is experimenting with printing out Hero Machine pictures on shrinky-dink plastic, coloring them and baking them down to scale. They glue nicely into the plastic bases with the slots in them that some miniature companies use. (No, I don't know just what size he has to print at to get 25mm results. I think he got the idea off a Hero Machine e-list somewhere.)
  4. Not to mention a chapter on Mecha, with samples.
  5. I'm still getting March 7 myself. I noticed though that GAMA was listed as running until March 20, so Steve may not have made it home yet.
  6. I don't have European Enemies, though I know people who refer to it as "Plan Nine From Hero Games". I own Foxbat Unhinged, though, and found it very disappointing. I can't recall the title offhand, but there was an enemies book for Dark Champs where everything was written as the personal notes of the Master of Crime -- I junked that one in a hurry. Anyone recall the title? Actually, if we're expanding the list to include non-Hero stuff, we can toss AD&D modules into the mix. I never could see the point of Lost Temple of Tharizdun, for instance.
  7. I was running a game once where a group of robots were charging the PCs. I started rolling attacks, and one of the robots got an 18. Since the bots were still fairly close together, I decided to make a second attack roll and see if it nailed a buddy. Another 18. Only time I ever got back to back 18s. I decided the robot fell over and landed on it's self-destruct switch.
  8. TUV has the Takeoff/Landing limitation for flying vehicles that aren't VTOL capable. Could the same limitation apply to gliders, or is it considered included in the lower cost of Gliding vs Flight? (In the setting in question, there's no one around who can toss the glider into the air like a paper airplane, so towing is the only option.)
  9. I don't know if anyone else has seen the old game "It Came From The Late, Late, Late Show", but I've wondered a few times if it would convert to Hero. For those who haven't seen it, the PCs are actors in bad movies (as in Plan Nine From Outer Space). Each "adventure scenario" is a different movie. Since the PCs aren't typecast, they can end up acting in all sorts of genres. It would take some serious tweaking, though, because the Late Show rules were optimized for the style of play. For instance, every major character has a Stunt Double who can be dragged into combat to take damage for you -- heavily limited Duplication or just an Everyactor Power?
  10. IIRC (it's been a while) it's a comic that is only sold through comic stores or by subscription, as opposed to comics you can get at the convenience store crammed in between the crossword puzzle magazines and the hot rod magazines. This of course assumes you can still get comics places other than comic book stores, I haven't really been looking.
  11. You could probably change it to TF: small boats. I don't know for certain just how common boating skill was, but it never seemed like tomb robbers had much trouble getting themselves across the Nile.
  12. Probably not, but things are scheduled to hit the fan big time while they're still in their training gear. You never know, someone might come up with a way to get combat effectiveness out of this ....
  13. Never thought of paintball, actually. I've never tried it, and considering what a lousy shot I am I probably never will. It would work, though, or I can tweak their weapons a bit and go with MILES gear. Thanks!
  14. Working on a con game here, and it starts out with the PCs in a training exercise. Since live ammo would be a tad risky, I figure they're using something on the line of a laser tag setup. Unfortunately, it's been years since I played that. For the gun, I'm thinking 1 point of Flash with appropriate limitations. But should it be a visible light beam, an IR beam or something else? For the sensor rig they're wearing, Detect seems to be the way to go. However, the rig doesn't cover all of them, so it would only detect hits in certain locations. Just define the Detect as "hit to chest area", or slap a limitation on? And, if I go with option 1, is there a way I can get around using Hit Locations? Maybe assume that since everyone knows where the sensor is, they're automatically aiming there?
  15. I don't own a copy of the core GURPS rulebook, but I've got several of their sourcebooks as idea-mines. I really liked Time Travel, the Alternate Earths books (2 is slightly better than 1, IMHO), Steampunk and Atomic Horror, but I don't think I've ever picked up one that was a total stinker.
  16. Depends on whether the engine was running (never seen Heavy Metal). If the driver didn't start it up until after landing, then no need for LS.

    Pulp Hero

I've got both of the Green Hornet movie serials on VHS, and while there's some sound glitches early in the first one it was worth the time to hunt them down. Dover Books has an "Everyday Fashion" series -- the book on the 1920's is a good reference for what normal people were wearing (as opposed to what Hollywood thinks everyone was wearing). The artwork's black and white, but clear.
  18. Pyramid Online for 2-28-03 is out, and the review section features Champions as a Pyramid Pick. (They define a "Pick" as "Gee, we wish we'd done that".) You will need to be a subscriber to read the whole review, but you can take a look at the first few paragraphs at http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid , click on the "current table of contents" link.
  19. Is the official language of Chiquador (Champs Universe) Spanish or Portuguese? The president's name sounds more like Portuguese to me, but his family might have emigrated from Brazil.
  20. I had to reset my bookmark --clicking on the Hero Games bookmark got me a 500 Servlet error, typing in http://www.herogames.com got me to the page. ::shrug::
  21. Personally I'd give the Phantom some Combat Luck as well, though in a straight slugfest that probably wouldn't be enough to balance BB's armor.
  22. In the episode with the giant space amoeba, Spock senses the death of a spaceship full of Vulcans from way outside sensor range. Of course, an Enterprise-class ship (what was the actual class name, anyway?) with a full crew of Vulcans can probably generate loads of psychic energy given a reason, and "we're about to die" sounds like a reason to me. Now, without that sort of power surge, I agree that they don't have a lot of range. Personally, I'd write their mental powers with a partial limitation (the first few dice normal, the rest with No Range). YMMV, though.
  23. It wasn't a loss, but the GM should have been redfaced after this one: First game of new campaign. GM has gotten all of us together by saying we all won a free first-class plane trip (to a specific place and at a set time). The plane gets to cruising altitude, the villains on board the plane announce the hijacking*, and the entire first-class compartment charges to the restroom. He hadn't looked at the sheets first, he'd just assumed the characters would either be Public ID or have Instant Change. Instead, we were all Secret ID and change-clothes. *I should perhaps mention this game was long before 9-11.
  24. Ditto on the museum suggestion. It doesn't necessarily have to be an art museum either. One of the history museums in town has the silver set intended for Lincoln's private train car but never used (because the only time Abraham Lincoln used the car, he was dead), and I bet the right fence could get you a ton of bucks for that. If gambling is legal in your game's home city, you could send the villains to a casino.
