  1. Re: Gods and Champions I don't know about "organized", but I know there's groups worshipping the Norse deities. The only ones I've heard of worshipping Greek deities are specifically worshipping the Greek goddesses (so Hercules doesn't qualify ), but there may be some out there who worship the whole pantheon. However, I lost several of my contacts when the new age bookstore that carried my stained glass on consignment closed, so I may be way out of date here.
  2. Re: Master List of Distinctive Features I once ran a character with air control powers and the DF: Air within two meters of her always in motion. Yep, even when she was in Secret ID. Made sweeping up some evidence at a crime scene one session a bit interesting . This might fall under the Tangible Aura variants, though.
  3. Re: DEMON cover previews out! Is it just me, or does Defender's expression have "I'm dumping that 0-point 'Magic Doesn't Exist' Psych Lim!" written all over it? Very nice cover, Storn. Whether or not I can read this one at work is another question , but it certainly sets the scene for the contents.
  4. Re: Cultural Superstitions and Forgotten Practices I've seen something similar from European traditions. The coffin is taken out by a window (or worst case, a hole broken in the outside wall and promptly patched up) so death can't find its way back inside. Interesting thread, Kawanga Kid. Let me rummage through some of my books and see if I can get some more.
  5. Re: So, out of the New York Hero teams, Which would you kill/Maim/Destroy? It's not mentioned in the timeline, but there's references to it in other books. For instance, the main airport in Millennium City has super-tech security scanners courtesy of Defender and Dr. Silverback, and they were installed as a response to 9/11.
  6. Re: Wanted - old Adventurers Club magazines I found some duplicates in my collection. You've got a PM with the rundown
  7. Re: Shrinky Dink Heroes A friend of mine has had good luck with setting his printer to draft mode and printing the shrinky dink sheet in color. Color printing at normal setting tends to result in color bleed, but draft setting cuts the amount of ink enough to prevent that. And it's one less step, which is handy if I've talked him into producing character minis for a convention game for me at the last minute .
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... "I'm unconscious, I don't care what the rest of you do." (Fortunately, that line was delivered by the husband of the player with the biggest smart-mouth tendency -- anyone else would probably have gotten a few comments .... )
  9. Re: Pokey Starships? WWII fighters were faster, yes -- but they didn't have range. IIRC, a Messerschmidt 109 could only spend 20 minutes over Britain or it would run out of fuel on the way home. Merchant vessels don't need speed, but do need to cover long distances. Besides, any merchant captain worthy of the name would engage the FTL drive (slot 2 of that MP) for long hauls.
  10. Anyone else seen this article? http://securitysolutions.com/mag/security_stuck_security/ Punch a hole in the door, get covered in extremely sticky foam. Of course, it doesn't fit in the con game I have coming up next month ...
  11. Re: Who have you updated? I need to go through 4th edition Golden Age Champions and 3rd Golden Age Of Champions for anyone I can update. Actually, that should be "anyone I can bear to update". I've already told the group that Polly the Psycho-Parrot will only be appearing in my Golden Age game as an entree.
  12. Re: JLA - CU Style I don't know that much about the DC Morgaine, but the Arcane Adversaries playtest file had a villainess from Faerie. She might be close. (IIRC the "le Fay" meant Morgaine was either Fae or strongly linked to Faerie.)
  13. Re: Villain Group! Can you get a copy of The Ultimate Vehicle in Argentina? I don't know how expensive the shipping would be from a US gamestore, but the mecha chapter includes a sample "we all combine into one megarobot" character.
  14. Re: The Valdorian Age I've had an idea for a FH con game for a couple months now, but it didn't really fit in Turakian Age and I didn't feel like writing my own world for a one-shot. From this description, it sounds like Valdorian Age would be a perfect fit. I'll see you in the playtest .
  15. Re: Crisis of Infinite Foxbats Generations ago, Frederick Foswell the First was traumatized by pirates, and went insane. Now, his descendant is the latest to don the mask of The Fox Who Walks, Phantom Fox!

    Sirians?

Has anything been published on what the Sirians (the aliens behind the "Martian" invasion in 1938) looked like? I'll be starting a Golden Age CU game soon, and the players voted to start with the Martian attack because it's an easy way to get them assembled into a team (which is also why I suggested it ). I have a copy of Gold Rush Games War of the Worlds sourcebook, and was thinking of using the original H.G. Wells aliens -- but is that going to stomp on continuity?
  17. Re: Variable Effect Powers One option for No Conscious Control covers situations where the character can turn the power on, but doesn't know what will happen when the power goes off. I think one example given is a mental power that involves making the target relive a bad experience/memory -- the person using the power doesn't know what that's going to be. I'd just use that (it's a -1 IIRC), and agree with the GM that what pops up will be rolled randomly. As far as your second question goes, I think you could probably trim the NCC limitation a bit more and say that if you make the roll, you can partly control what happens. I'm a bit tired, though, so the book might disagree with me.
  18. Re: Villian Planning Session Two questions: 1) do the terrorists have someone who's really good at messing with security setups and 2) do the heroes believe in checking matters out first? If both answers are yes, then sneak someone into the main security room for the whole building, maybe a day or two early. Have said person hack the security cameras/sensors for the 5th floor and rig them to show nobody home. When the heroes go to the security room "to see where all of the terrorists are", none of them are on that floor so why go there? Another idea would be for the terrorists to "be seen" as they charge up to the building, guns drawn. Hopefully the security guards on duty are sharp enough to hit the alarm button, if you (or the villains) don't want to count on that a supporter with a cell phone can call 911 as they get out of their car. A decoy crime has already lured the heroes to this area, so "luckily" they can respond immediately. Important -- the terrorists must be stopped outside the building, or in the main lobby at the least. The heroes will then "know" none of the terrorists got inside, and if they were yelling something about having a statement broadcast (bring a videotape with one) do the heroes need another reason for this to have happened? Meanwhile the "cleaning crew" on the 5th floor has finished ghosting and erasing the computer and is calling the security desk to see if it's safe to leave now.
  19. Re: Turakian Age: Drakine Population Dynamics Where's that "slap with a fish" smiley ... oh, right, it's on the snopes.com message boards.
  20. Re: Help me create an Alien Arena Sport One thing that occured to me is making bank shots worth more points. A novice at the game can do direct throws, they're legal, but you only get one point. Someone who's trained at the game will be going for two-bank or three-bank shots and scoring 4 or 6 points (respectively) per goal. It would be something like American football -- it is theoretically possible to win a game if your team only scores safeties (2 points). It is much more likely that you'll win if your team is scoring touchdowns (7 points). I can't think of too many coaches who would turn down the chance to score a safety, but what they're trying for is a touchdown.

  22. Re: Card Shark I hate to be the one who brings this up, but the sample characters in the playtest files had "Hunted: Card Shark". Sounds like evidence to me that we'll be seeing the Card Shark organization at some point. Now, whether we're still on Card Shark V or Harbinger has done some more weeding out of the group ....
