  1. Re: New to Champions. The Strength you get from Density Increase doesn't apply to your figured Characteristics so you don't get extra REC, STUN or PD(Beyond what DI says it gives)
  2. Re: New to Champions. http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/mathew/cssentinel4.html Apparently it's a 4th edition writeup, but it should play OK. It's not the most powerful Sentinel, but it will do for noob heroes On pg 145 of Champions Universe there is an official 5th edition writeup of a Minuteman Robot (ie Sentinel). It has lower STRength, but it's attacks are more powerful. (PDF available for purchase here: https://www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=195689 )
  3. Re: New to Champions. Don't be afraid to allow everyone to rebuild their characters after a couple of runs. That way noone will be stuck with bad builds caused by being new to the rules Tasha
  4. Re: Five Innovative But Impractical Handguns From what I saw of the Disassembled LeMat, I don't think that changing the cylendar is an easy thing. I think that it slides over the shotgun barrel. Not something that would be easy to do in combat. Though I imagine that some innovative Gunsmith will figure out how to do a quick change of both. Heck with some reengineering it may be possible to use a Shotgun Cartridge instead of dealing with muzzle loading the shotgun.
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
  6. Re: New to Champions. Dont forget that you get a free recovery after Segment 12 in each turn. I think you will see that most folk won't take recoveries during combat, unless they are darned sure that they are outside of combat.
  7. Re: 6Ed Character Sheet? We used to have a special sheet with ALL of the combat Maneuvers, End, stun, Body, Range Mods, Martial arts, Hit Location etc. It made things easier and saved time when we wanted to use unusual Maneuvers. We do what we can to keep us away from opening the rulebooks. As for Character sheets we liked our Modified 3 column sheet. We had a section that was as wide as 2 of the columns for powers, and about a third of the way down we started the center column for Skills and things that didn't need a long line, The right column was for the Cbt Maneuvers, hit locations etc. Of Course the right column was also repeated on our Combat sheet
  8. Re: Superpowers in the Courthouse It is a genre trope that Superpowers ARE suppressible. It seems to make sense that a device could be developed that disrupts what ever it is that triggers the super ability phenomena. I mentioned Ki disrupters that could somehow disrupt Martial Artist Ki abilities as well. It seems that with super gadgeteers and super mystics, those folk could help create devices that could weaken or out and out suppress all superhuman ability. The big problem is that IF super powers aren't suppressible then Law Enforcement has BIG problems keeping Supercriminals contained. How do you keep criminals like Grond or the other extremely powerful non-focus users incarcerated when they finally are convicted for their crimes? You can't keep criminals sedated as many of them are immune to the sedatives and also some of them aren't even human. Having a "SuperMax"ish facility like Stronghold only works if you can keep the supers from breaking out. If Villians keep breaking out eventually the heroes are going to get sick of having to defend their family from the villain that they placed in jail a dozen times and do something unfortunately unheroic and tragic to said villain. just what I think, Tasha
  9. Re: New to Champions. for your first game I would recommend playing the NPC Heroes from the Back of the Champions Sourcebook or creating some Generic Heroes for the Players to "get their Feet wet" For the first adventure do the old bank Robbery scenario and have the Heroes happen to be there to stop the Villains. Doing it this way will allow them to experience combat without making that investment in character creation time. IMHO this is the best system outthere for playing Superheroes. Most of the other systems out there are highly influenced by Hero. Good luck! Tasha
  10. Re: Need a good name for Mind Control magic Who knows? BTW in Everquest, Enchanters are the folk who have spells that both strengthen and enthrall the mind. The real problem is that terms like Sorcery, Enchantment, Charms, Warlock etc have really lost their real meanings or that like many things from history are actually synonymous in their meanings. So just pick a term and a place/group ie I learned Enchantment from the Waterdeep Brothers of Magic or I studied Enchantment from the Great Wizard Tobar. Make it sound big and important. If people wonder why you can't make magic items, tell them that's another school of Enchantment. That you do magic on living minds.
  11. Re: Jupiter Impact!!?! THe movie 2010 is so funny with it's inaccurate special effects. I just giggled though the whole stupid trailer, when it showed before Harry Potter. Though an Asteroid hit on Jupiter is very cool. You know that it's our system's hoover for stray matter
  12. Re: Top 5 Favorite 5E Supplements The Equipment Guide Fantasy Hero Ultimate Martial Artist Dark Champions Until Superpowers Guide (1&2 that is) Those are the 5 books that I keep going back to time and time again. I don't know if I could live without these supplements. BTW Ultimate Skill gets runnerup status Also a HUGE shout out to Hero Designer! It makes all of our work creating Characters a TON easier/faster! Tasha
  13. Re: The Book Of The Machine No not that I saw, of course the "Neutral Ground" that he was part of doesn't seem to exist in the current continuity. Tasha PS yeah I hope that 6e's pages are on lighter weight paper than this one...
  14. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game You realize that the freeing up of names started when Cryptic still ran the game... I could have sworn that they only released the names of characters in inactive accounts. Because I have a ton of alts on 3 different servers with none above lvl 30 and never lost a name. YMMV I guess Tasha
  15. Re: GM Justice Inc Quandry I should point out that Bonnie and Clyde died from rifle fire (from hunting rifles and from LMG fire from BARs)NOT SMG fire. It seems that the doors on those older cars tended to bounce pistol fire. So perhaps the SMGs don't penetrate the car. Also if most of the shots are from the front at hip level. most of those 15 shots would go into the engine block. I would recommend having most of the shots hit parts of the car and not penetrate into the passenger compartment. Heck that Huge Olds engine would be great cover for the gunfight.
  16. Re: Microtransaction (Cryptic Bucks) Info Up My point is that different games use Microtransactions differently. Cryptic's history is that of using them to add Costumes and other "fluff" to the game that they couldn't otherwise afford to fund the development of. In Free to play games Microtransactions are the revenue stream that keeps the servers open so they tend to sell cool stuff that you could play without, but make the game far easier if you do buy them.
  17. Re: Superpowers in the Courthouse Perhaps you hit on something. Power Nullifers installed into each courtroom or perhaps the whole courthouse. It won't stop folk who have "Supertraining" as their power (or perhaps it could also dampen down Ki to tone down super martial artists). It would be akin to having the metal detectors at the doors. Justified by the chance of supercriminals busting into the courthouse to help others escape.
  18. Re: New to Champions. First off Welcome. Beware we are a VERY opinionated bunch Our bark is far worse than our bite 1)Character creation can be quite short or very long. The secret to creating a champions character is to set the book down and write out in plain english what you want your character to do. It's also a good place to figure out if they have friends that help, people like "Aunt May" who can be hinderances, if there are organizations that are after the character. etc. Then you can set down to figuring out what powers in the game book emulate what you have written down on your explaination page. Also I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase a copy of "Hero Designer" it's a Java applicaiton available in the online store that makes character creation VERY easy. 2) Like many roleplaying systems that have many options to weigh in Combat, it CAN take a while to get though a combat. If everyone know what they are going to do before their Phase comes up, then combat will go pretty quickly 3) If you follow the guidelines on page 28 things SHOULD be fairly balanced. It is possible to munchkin a character to make it far more powerful than their points look. It's a matter of keeping Defenses, Attacks, CV and Speed within the campaign limits and not having characters that are at the caps of all of these. A balanced character will generally be at cap for one of the above, average (middle of he road) in 2 and below average in one. 4)Yes, you do have to create everything strictly speaking. Though there are many resources on the web that have characters and Villains written up. Also there are many "enemies" books available for purchase in the online store. BTW when you are making your own NPCs you don't necessarily need to balance their points like players have to on their Characters. Enjoy the system, Tasha
  19. Re: Need a good name for Mind Control magic Glamours are actually Illusion. hense high Fashion is known as glamor. Because fashion is an illusion to increase attractiveness.
  20. Re: Need a good name for Mind Control magic Most mind control spells are known as Charm spells. You could be a Charmomancer

  22. Re: Microtransaction (Cryptic Bucks) Info Up
  23. Re: Microtransaction (Cryptic Bucks) Info Up Wow look at the paranoia here. Look, Cryptic is just doing the same thing they did in City of Heroes. They have been doing microtransactions there for Costume piece updates. A few of them have included a minor buff item, but nothing that is so powerful that "everyone" must have it. Other items included a Character Rename Service, Extra Character slots, and Server Transfers. I doubt that you will see Cryptic selling special ubar powers or special lootz or even game currency. In City of Heroes they used the money they recieved from the Costume upgrade packs to pay for more Free costume pieces and for rewrites of old zones that were not used often by the current server population. Also it allowed them to develop the costume change emotes (animations that triggered when you changed costumes). That is a technology that first appeared in the Magic Costume upgrade pack, but was recently rolled out to the rest of the community (with new non magical emotes). I understand it also helped fund he new upgrade that will allow power colors and other power customization. So this is a good thing. BTW all of the packs were $10 each so they aren't every expensive. They even allowed folk to purchase stuff that was only available in their special "Collectors editions" of the game. tasha
  24. Re: Help with an Ineffective Ice Mage... Yeah the rewrite is in error. I always forget to change that in HD. I'll fix it and repost the corrected version Tasha I could have sworn that the Normal Attack WAS Autofire as well. Perhaps he changed it. Though 4d6 is pretty ignorable as an attack. Not worth the end spent keeping the thing running.
  25. Re: Help with an Ineffective Ice Mage... Here's a quick pass version of the character. It seems that she is supposed to be a Powerful Mage/Rogue type. I added Streetwise and Stealth as some of the character's Text seemed to recommend these skills. I did bring the DEX and SPD down a bit. I also moved the FF to outside of the MP and limited it to 8pd and ED. I also removed the annoying Side Effects and gave her Incantations for her spells Other things to do to her. Prob, down power the Organizational Contact, Add Weapon Proficiencies so she can use Daggers, and other wizardly weapons. Here, enjoy Tasha Click the Spoiler label if you want to see my take on the character.
