  1. Re: Why does the USS Iowa only have a 10 Defense? Okay.
  2. Re: Why does the USS Iowa only have a 10 Defense? I know nothing about you or your proclivities. Just remarking on the comment. It wasn't geared towards you specifically. Could've been anyone-- happened to be you.
  3. Re: Why does the USS Iowa only have a 10 Defense? *shrug* Then go back to FATAL.
  4. Easy one: Is there an OCV penalty for making a Half-Move in the same Phase you attack? Assume for purposes of this question that the attack takes half a Phase. I don't see anything in 5ER regarding this, nor would I expect to, but I've seen it come up a couple times in play and wanted to clarify.
  5. Re: Name her! Give her Powers! I'm Lazy! That's... um... pretty casual. Any outfit which makes a statement about one's depilatory routine is a little more than casual, IMO.
  6. Re: Just how realistic can you get and still have a "superhero" game?
  7. Re: Biggest whine about HERO Not enough points.
  8. Re: Damage Reduction Question I say neither, because powers that cost 0 END by default aren't allowed in ECs. If you're going by the book, anyway. However, if it costs END, I'd go with A too-- but instead of two Physical Damage Reduction slots, I'd only have one. Why do you have two, anyway? Was one supposed to be Energy?
  9. Re: Searching for a Cause God help those people anyway. Lightning bolt!
  10. Re: Are Guns considered killing damage? I believe it was a joke specifically tailored for this audience; it used a HERO-specific term in its punchline, see. Replying compulsively, --Me
  11. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form IMO, the Transform/Instant Change is pretty unnecessary, and maybe even ill-advised. Why not give him DI with Visibility* (defined as his Hero ID), and then a bunch of other stuff (Armor, maybe more STR, LS) bought with OIHID? Transform/Instant Change is for changing your clothes, since changing yourself would use Shapeshift, and while my knowledge of the X-Men is rather limited, I'm pretty sure Piotr's mutation changes his body, not his duds. *If DI is Visible by default, so much the better: it perfectly deals with his changing appearance.
  12. Re: Autofire Images Hearing Sense? Hardly! They're lip synching. And I have Hearing Flash Defense built into my TV remote. Little power called "Mute."
  13. Re: Autofire Images Wait-- those are just images? That's a relief. I thought they were backup singers.
  14. Re: Alternative Disadvantage Concept That's interesting, because I would advocate running screaming from Vampire and its descendants. And run with a lot of angst. Wear black. Obfuscate yourself as you go. YMMV, of course.
  15. Re: Ten Commandments of Game Mastering Likewise-- I used to know a guy who could improv great Cthulhu games practically on the fly. However, I know that under that veneer of effortlessness were actually years of effort and experience. He was so well-versed in CoC that he didn't have to "prepare," much like a professional brass musician reaches a point in his career where he doesn't need to "warm up" before playing. Take an experienced GM and tell him to wing a game, and he can do it. Take an inexperienced GM and tell him to do the same, and odds are it'll last about twenty painful minutes. In either case, evidence that the GM cared enough to be prepared for a gaming session is always appreciated.
  16. Re: Alternative Disadvantage Concept Despite my usual love of crunchiness, I like this idea a lot. I know it'd certainly be appealing for most of my non-HERO gaming friends (which is, like, nearly all of them...). Rep for you.
  17. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN... Hell, I'd buy it. This is from KotDT? I'm no huge fan or anything, but I'd have thought it would've been better written. *shrug*
  18. Re: How would you simulate this power? I second that emotion. The most complex way I can think of to do this would be to have an Aid to DEX linked to an attack. However, 5-point CSLs with Gradual Effect obviates any other method, IMO.
  19. Re: Are Guns considered killing damage? Re: the Star Wars conversions, you might want to check out the Star Hero forum. Others have done plenty of convertin' on that front already. Do a search; it's a popular one.
  20. Re: New Character for review... I'd put the Teleport and Clairsentience in an EC to save a few points; they're closely related powers, so it makes sense. Even better would be to buy Safe Blind Teleport, but if you're looking for a power that'll actually show him where he's going, keep the Clairsentience. Safe Blind Teleport will only keep him out of solid objects. The special sub-categories for Computer Programming and Systems Operation are used more often in, say, Star HERO than in Champions, so if your GM isn't using them, that's a few more points to be saved (although Systems Operation will actually cost a point more). Another weird Skill thing that's clearly a sign you recently purchased Hero Designer: the "+1 with single Characteristic Roll." I think what you probably wanted was a +1 with all Intellect Skills, right? In that case, it'll cost you 5 points. The 2-point SL is literally for a single Characteristic Roll. That is, if the GM says, "Make an INT Roll," which, in my experience, doesn't come up that often. That's not to say you couldn't still get that particular kind of SL; I just think you meant to get something else. Also, fool around with Hero Designer a bit more-- you'd be surprised what you can highlight and edit. On a related note, his +2 Overall CSLs depend on an INT Roll. However, since the special effect is a battle computer doing his thinking for him, I'd remove the RSR altogether or, if you want there to be some uncertainty, change it to Activation. IMO, you should drop the OIF Armor and up his natural Hardened Skin and give him some greater offensive ability. Up his STR and/or buy some CSLs with his MA package (or increase the damage they do). Social Limitation: False Identity-- just to clarify, this is Secret ID, right? I only ask because there's a perk called False Identity in Dark Champions. Also, I think Secret ID is worth another five points (Frequently, Major). Were I the GM to whom you were submitting this character, I'd also want to know how he's able to teleport, since nothing in the background mentions this. I'd also want more information on his second Contact and his DNPC, and why he takes extra damage from "chronal" attacks. These are all pretty minor. On the whole, he's a solid character.
  21. Re: Gamma Girl pics I like her. Her wide hips will serve her well in the birthing pits.
  22. Re: PPG Doujinshi Writeups? Interesting webcomic. Well-drawn, anyway, and I appreciate the inclusion of Dexter. Always suspected they lived in the same universe. And I can only assume that before it was translated into English from whatever language in which it was originally written, it read much better.
  23. Re: Please explain in English about the guns ROFL! TORG! OMGWTF!!!11!1!! For a start, I'd suggest having some patience with yourself and with the system. You may want to read a few things on your own-- say, some of the rules, or the notes appended to the weapons tables-- to prepare. Then, I'd sit down with someone else in the group who is familiar with the basic rules of the system and either let them translate your words into numbers, or have them help you do it yourself. If no one in your group will help you do this, they're a bunch of juvenile assholes. Tell them so. Really let them have it. If they don't accept your opinion, threaten to convince them through physical violence, then grab the GM's hair with your right hand, drop to your left knee, and, using your body weight, bring his face crashing down upon your right knee. That should at least stun him, especially coupled with the fact that he likely wasn't expecting it. If the GM doesn't have hair, suggest to him that he grow some, as baldness is "out." Avoid him and the rest of the group while he grows hair, then proceed with the steps above. If he was expecting it... man, that guy's Benedict. You're on your own.
