I ran into similar problems when initially working on Hero Combat Manager and exporting files.  Let me dig up the RegEdit commands I added to my exports that help get rid of stuff like that.

bluesguy reacted to Steve in Dr. Destroyer takes over Cuba
Actually, the PCs have been the unintentional cause of some events in the campaign. The Cuban plot development was a result of their actions during the war. When V’Han came, Cuba was one of her force’s major beachheads, and the PCs attacked the ship, which had a few of their alternate universe counterparts on it.

After V’Han was driven off, which some of the PCs felt might have been “too easy,” it was later discovered that many superhumans were now missing, and entire superteams were gone. The players are pretty sure this means they’ve been kidnapped by V’Han’s forces before her withdrawal. However, instead of diving right into that, the PCs have been getting run a bit ragged dealing with suddenly being the world’s most visible superheroes that are active. The V’Han War has been one of the more major events in my campaign.

Cuba was a V’Han beachhead, and the PC’s counterparts crushed the Cuban military at the head of V’Han’s soldiers in their opening move, which was one reason they decided to go to Cuba instead of one of the other hot spots. After the war was over, Dr. Destroyer made his first move, taking over the remnants of Cuba. His ability to produce food and medicine via his technology is pretty much equivalent to using a Star Trek replicator.

Instead of just beating the crook of the week, although some sessions are like that, the campaign’s overall story arc has been a series of events that slowly increase the stakes for the PCs and raise their visibility. They started out as one new team amongst many older, existing teams and their actions have gradually rewritten the campaign world, in one story arc literally when they went on a multi-session time travel odyssey and altered certain key events in the history of the Champions Universe, creating this alternate timeline version.

Their time travel adventures attracted V’Han’s attention, which then led to the war, which has led to the current events.

I always check at the end of each session if everyone is having a good time, and the responses have been positive. Everyone keeps coming back, and it’s been over two years now.

I would also recommend getting Hero Designer and the associated additional packages for the above books.  This will make creating characters much easier.

In my game PRE attacks are used often by the players and at times by the villains (especially Supervillains).  I do require that the player state what they are going to say before they roll their PRE attack.  If they have Oratory they can roll that ahead of time to add the appropriate dice to the roll.  I do use the table to determine if there are any additional dice to add into the roll.  In my game the players often use PRE attacks as a way to stop a fight with a bunch minions after killing the leader.  In one case the characters were dealing with a large number of bandits and one of the characters had stunned the leader with an excellent hit.  The player got to move before the Stunned character and decided "I am taking a called shot for his head", which resulted in the bad guy's head being separated from his body.  In the next phase the character could move he picked up the head and said "Surrender or run away otherwise we will kill you".  He made a great PRE attack and at least 1/2 the bandits gave up and the rest ran for the hills.  Good thing too because the players had some wounded characters and if they had been pressed by the bandits the PCs might have lost the fight.

On the flip side Black Paladin used a PRE attack on the players to cause them to hesitate long enough for him to trigger his NPC death trap ;-)...  That caused a bunch of characters to act outside the plan they had for taking out Black Paladin and his cohort ....

Yes, I would like to see that. Because new gamers need something that gets them into the action now and simplifies character generation. They can always include the nitty gritty under the hood stuff for the people who DO want to customize further.

Plot Point Campaigns. I really love Necessary Evil. It's well put together and is pretty easy to convert to Hero. The Deadlands PP books are supposed to be good too.

PS sorry if I replied to this one before. I don't remember if I have and my original post keeps getting likes so...

My dream products for Champions would include:

-Champions Complete-style slim version of the rules with basic setting and characters.  Similar to the 4th ed Big Blue Book, something you could buy and play all by itself.

-Champions World Book, a quick overview of hero teams, villains, fake countries, evil organizations, and a timeline.  Include a lot of quick-start character writeups (not a Steve Long-style 4 page character sheet, just something that can fit on half a page) of most of the characters.  Pattern the world off of a mix of Marvel and DC to appeal to the most people.  Give people a solid idea of what is out there

-Bronze Age Champions, the GM's Guide,  Information on how to run a superhero game.  What to do, what not to do.  Why your custom villains, Sergeant Rape-Kill and Captain Iron Age are not appropriate for a standard 4 color superhero game.  When to cheat.  Common comic book tropes.  How to adjust a classic genre to the expectations of modern players.  Expanded use of the power skill, and when to allow players to do things that aren't on their character sheets.  Running combats smoothly and telling a dynamic story.  As well as default methods of modeling certain special effects, and other "house rules" to use in a standard Champions game.  When people ask "how do I make XYZ?" it's right here in the book.  "What does it mean when I have a mutant power?"  Page 87.

-Villain books.  From disposable goons, DNPCs who have radiation accidents, former heroes who turn bad, to scheming mad scientists, you can always use more villains.

-Campaign City books.  From Seacoast City to Southtown.  Metro City to Portsmouth.  Empire City to Lakeshore.  City books can be smaller, but a 100 page sourcebook for each one with details about why these places are important.  Give GMs and players a real feel for this setting as though they had read comics about it, or at least seen some cartoons set there.

-Adventure Packs.  Hero teams should be introduced with a starting set of half a dozen adventures.  Don't introduce heroes as just NPC groups, people's eyes glaze over when they see that.  "I'll never play as these characters, and I'll never fight these characters."  Instead, let hem play as the Justice Squad, with an adventure arc all ready to go.  As an example, an X-Men pack would have stats for 7 or 8 of the main characters, as well as a character sheet for Magneto and 3 or 4 of his evil mutants.  It would have a 3 game adventure where he's trying to do something and the heroes must stop him.  It would also have rules for the Sentinels, Bolivar Trask, and Henry Peter Gyrich, with a 3 adventure series with them.  And then it might have Arcade or Mojo with a 1 or 2 session adventure to fight them as well.  It should have enough stuff that a GM could buy one of these books and hand out characters to players and start running immediately.

It should all tie together as part of a cohesive whole.  Artwork, design choices, font and book formatting, everything should match.  The "build your own" of the basic Hero system would remain, but this would be a fully assembled world, ready to go.  Power levels would be fairly consistent across the board (you don't need 30D6 Dr Destroyer to even exist when the proposed heroes are all 12D6 characters), and unusual power constructions would not normally show up.  If "poison touch" is defined as Drain vs Stun on one character, then it should be the same on other characters as well.  No need for somebody else to have a No Range NND RKA that Does Body.  Keep it consistent.

From there, I'd branch out into other time periods (Golden Age, Silver Age) and other settings within the game world (Savage Land, Galactic Champions, Mystic World).

Hi! Been a Champions nut for a very long time (1985, 3rd ed) but been quite inactive over the last decade and a half. Ran a lot of 3rd and 4th ed but skipped over Fuzion (ugh) and 5th ed. Champions Complete has recently fallen into my lap and the old juices are starting to flow again.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
I picked up a nickname as "The Missing Link" at my first proper job. Link is "Rinku" in Japanese which I was always a fan of. Nothing to do with Zelda - but because of Link from Zelda I got into the habit of sticking the "m" for missing in front to make a handle.

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
      1st Edition Traveller, circa 1980.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
      Ditto.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Playing 2nd Ed Space:1889 (Ubiquity version) with the old gang via Skype. Prepping to run Champions 6th after we finish that campaign.

Edit: Just added a profile picture. Never played Captain Third in a tabletop game, but he's appeared in City of Heroes, DCUO, Pirates of the Burning Sea and has a miniature (pictured). Probably I should have a picture of Robo-bushi or Dwarfstar who go back to my actual Champions playing days, but Cap started as a wargaming tournament in-joke and the first drawing of him was as a forum profile portrait, so hey.

I'd really like to see a regular series of support for the settings. So, taking Fantasy Hero as an example, it'd look like:
    - Campaign Book
    - Adventure Series #1 (includes new villains, magic items, etc.)
    - Setting Book #1 (focusing on a particular area in the Campaign Book. This would include new options for characters.)
    - Book of X (X = fantasy race or occupation of choice, and include options based on that race.)
    - World Bestiary #1

Add, rinse, repeat with occasional new books or single adventures outside of a series.

FH Campaign Setting as detailed and interesting as Harn.  Fully detailed out history for multiple kingdoms, cultures, travel, food, economics, cities, magic and lore.  A campaign setting is not a series of adventures, it is a place with a history and feel that makes it come alive.  The best campaigns I have played in and run have come from a campaign setting with a solid foundation to build upon.  Once that is done then encourage the writing of adventures (single shot or series) that are played in the setting.  There might be some 'rules' around how much an adventure can change the setting or history.

And if you really want to go hog wild make it possible to use the setting and adventures with Realm Works

Miniatures would be awesome - especially female miniatures that don't look and dress like strippers.

Hi. New to the forum, brought in by the MHI game. In all my years of gaming none of the groups I have been associated with have even been remotely interested in the Hero system, so the rule set is totally foreign to me. Hoping to find out more before committing to the game.

    But in the meantime, introductions.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
    - 1upus because Lupus was taken. And no, I do not suffer from lupus. Latin for wolf

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
    - first ever RPG was D&D, basic box, which I'm sure dates me

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
    - in the 1980s, way before Star Wars d20, my gaming group of the day reskinned AD&D into a Star Wars RPG set around the classic trilogy. A long time ago before the prequels were even imagined by fanboys.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
    - haven't GM'd for a long time due to a lack of preparation time.Current gaming revolves around John Wick's Blood & Honor. Relatively rule light and I live the collaborative fiction feel if the way the game runs.

Additional note: What brought you to the Hero System?
    - as mentioned, I am a huge fan of MHI and only discovered recently there was an official RPG. Here to find out more.
I'm also a big fan of the GrimNoir stories amd am considering reskinning Champions to create a Grim Noir game.

    :-D

I played the heck out of 5er, been a fan for a long time. Revisiting the 6th edition and really liking what I'm seeing. I'm hoping to create some digital tools for the game, and some adventure frameworks for "pick up and play". First I need to immerse myself in the game again and start GMing it. Looking forward to more discussions with the fans!
