    Galactic Champions

Re: Galactic Champions I think some gms are a little too caught up on everyone doing the same damage, having the same defenses, and moving within 1 speed of each other. Character diversity is what makes the encounters interesting. If you know everyone does 12d6, has 25 defense, and a 5 speed what is the point of the conflict? To play miniature battles? The champions-3000 team have a broad range of attack damages, defenses, speeds, and stuns. They are more like a comic book team such as the Avengers rather than a game team like the champions-2000. The group I play in has attacks ranging from 8d6 to 22d6 and I assure the 8d6 player has just as much fun as the 22d6 player.

  5. Re: Question about mind control and enrage There are a lot of circumstances involved here but I would never allow a disadvantage to work toward the character's favor. In this case the favor was you not changing targets as the mind control dictated. The disadvantage needs to be disadvantageous to the character, it should never help him achieve a person agenda.

    GC Sales

Re: GC Sales I'm not surprised if galactic champions has only medium sales. It is a niche product within a niche market so those usually do not always generate to high sales volumes. As far as the frpgames list, it is only 2 days old.
  7. Re: is this legal? I do not understand the question. If there is a 12 dc limit in your game then the characeter is not legal. Anything over the 12 dc would be considered illegal. It does not matter how you bought it. You can buy a 100 strength but it would still be illegal based on what the gm has set for his campaign limits.
  8. Re: Multiple-Power Attacks w/ Martial Arts? I do not know if the hero rules have an implied limit. I believe the examples given only show two maneuvers being used at one time. My campaign has a limit of not more than three maneuvers/powers/abilities being used together in a multiple-powers attack. We do allow ranged and non-ranged attacks to be combined in some instances though.
  9. Re: In honor of my first HERO purchases... Writing characters is not an easy task in Hero. Character creation is the most difficult part of the whole game. What you are asking for would be several hours of work. What I might suggest is that you go here: http://www.sysabend.org/champions/gnborh/ There are many character write-ups from different people. They are for 4th edition but they are 97% usuable with 5th edition rules. That would give you some character basis to begin with. Welcome to the club.

  11. Re: Freedom City Goes HERO! I do not believe Green Ronin would want to pay the licensing fee to publish Hero stats in their books, not when they already have the first or second most popular superhero rpg in the market today; Champions possibly being either first or second with SAS a long way off third. The Algernon Files is a nice book published with M&M stats that can also be useful to you in your Champions games. I have been enjoying reading it this week. Now that would be a nice book to see double-statted or have a Hero pdf for.
  12. Re: Enhanced Perception vs. Telescopic I guess I do not understand your question. It is +2 telescopic for sight group for 3 points. Or it is +2 enhanced perception for sight group for 4 points. You are saving a quarter due to it being for range/distance modifiers only. If you want it to only work for a single sense, as in your 1 point enhanced perception example, they you just take telescopic with an additional limitation of -1/2 to -1 depending on the type of sense it works for.
  13. Re: MH Press acquires two HERO licences! It seems like an odd thing for Steve Long to say considering the only two hero system pdfs published so far have had poor sales; poor to the point where hero even dropped their entire pdf schedule. My understanding is that the pdf market is a small percentage of the overall gaming market. You are drastically limiting your potential fanbase by going that route, and if you decide to use the new distribution system you are limiting your fanbase even further.
  14. Re: The Justice Defenders, Pittsburgh's team I will put this here instead of the other thread, but I believe you can delete a thread yourself as long as no one has posted to it. Just go to your message, hit edit, and then at the top of the screen you will see a delete box and link.
  15. Re: Champions, where are they? There are heavy correlations, but I look at personalities over numbers when I see characters. If I just look at numbers then there really is no differnce between Pulsar and Sapphire. To me the champions are not that interesting. I know they are supposed to be examples of archetypes but they would be more interesting if they had less standard powers and abilities, with something unique and ususual about each of them. But they are ok for what they are: a medium-powered hero group that can share a city with pcs and not make them feel overshadowed.
  16. Re: Nightwind? I never cared for Seeker at all. I believe I am part of the minority who prefers Nighthawk over Seeker. The only advantage which Seeker had over Nighthawk was more years of exposure. Seeker was just the Champions punching bag with little real substance or power, in my opinion.

  18. Re: Online USPD PDF If you click on the "enter database" link you will go into the database and you will see a pdf link at the top of the page. The USPD can be accessed from the home page. Just click on the champions logo on the right side of the page.
  19. Re: Nightwind? His write up is in Millennium City.
  20. Re: Bashing people with chairs, lightpoles, automobiles... Normal humans and non-bricks can also throw things. They just throw smaller things. A 25 strength character using our rules can throw a chair for 9d6. A 60 strength brick can throw a chair for 16d6. The difference is just the strength. The chair always does the same additional damage. So I do not think strength is too powerful. Most of them require a half-phase action. So you cannot run to a lightpole, rip it up, and throw it. That would be 3 half-phase actions.
  21. Re: This Issue Only Our GM uses a different npc hero as his player character almost every session. It varies. Our GM has used almost everyone given a write up so far. All of our npcs have come from the champions universe so far.
