Damage Shield HKA 1d6 Penetrating. 0end Persistent Always on yada yada, only effects you if you attack me -.5, (means you can hug mom and not kill her) +20 CSL Hand to Hand (-1 1/2 only for increasing DCs of DAmage Sheild and can only match the DCs of the incoming attack) Nice Power Dude! 2. Re: I need help with a grenade launcher Right! By limiting the number of charges on your grenade laucher you are limiting the number of times it can fire. Well, that is just silly. It can fire for a long time, the problem is ammo. Which in this case is a separate power. Right? Hawksmoor

  4. Re: Questions about Energy Blast It all really depends on what type of game style your group is playing. Some groups insist that all "tricks" be purchased with points, and hence everyone likely has a big Multipower for "Power Stunts". Examples include Entangles where the PC wraps a lightpole around the villian, or Transforms to carve your name in rock with your finger, or the aforementioned sealing of the door. Some games use the Power Skill. Rolls of the Power Skill against certain modifiers based on applicability and training in that use effect the roll. So in this game we could state that StarFire has Power Skill: Energy Blast at 12-, she rolls 3d6 and sees if she succeeds. If she does the doors are welded shut. If not either the doors are made of a heat resistant material or she just blasted them OPEN on an 18! It is really up to you and your group. Hawksmoor
  5. Re: Need Help With Teleport Power The delusion thing is not meant literally. I was refering to his statements about money in relation to superheroic genre HERO. PCs don't get to as I said buy Nokia phones to keep in touch canonically they have to spend points. I still think if he teleport/summons his Mont Blanc and somehow uses it in combat or NCM for good purpose a significant portion of the time he has to pay for it. For instance his NEO (normal everyday object) is his blankie. His character Dr. Dissolvo has a 25 Enraged Berserk, BUT he has his disad bought off with a power that 'erases' his disad. Net result no points. But if the Power was linked to the presence of said favorite blankie then he would need to buy the summon. See? Since no matter where his blankie was he could gain it and prevent his Berserker tendencies. Hawksmoor
  6. Re: Need Help With Teleport Power I think you are suffering under a delusion. Yes you can *use* a OMO (Ordinary Mundane Object) without paying for it in a Superheroic game. Say you are Filthy Rich and buy an Enzo Ferrari. Fine No problemo kimosabe but, if you use it to get to and from Combat, chase down villians and otherwise Style at the corner you *have* to pay points for it. In other words, you have Brick X. Brick X picks up a rock and hurls it at Acid Queen. No Problem. He throws, he hits she takes STUN end of story. But if Brick X wants to throw rocks at everyone, lots of times. The GM is certainly entitled to suggest he buy EB OIF object of opportunity -1/2 Range limited by STR -1/4 etc. Why? Because rock throwing has become part of Brick X's arsenal of amazing abilities. It all depends on how you play it. If your team buys walkie talkies to communicate, then they *should* buy it as Radio/listen Transmit OAF. A pen is another matter entirely, mainly because it has so little use in game. Unless you are Bullseye. In that case see the above example of Brick X. Hawksmoor
  7. Re: I need help with a grenade launcher No, you are limited by the number of grenades you carry. Not the number of times the launcher fires right? Hawksmoor
  8. Re: Devlin1 KA Question I know you even had me wondering if 5th Ed changed the rules on me. And I thought it could be of some use to the disscussion group. Since not everyone goes to the Steve only forum. Naked advantage is a weird one. I wonder is it still illegal to by a HtHKA with Range? Hawksmoor
  9. Re: Help with Ego powers, please.
  10. Re: Devlin1 KA Question Vorsh you are correct that only some builds get this prorated advantage. Penetrating, AP get it as does Effects Desolid. I have never seen a ruling on Explosion, but I would doubt it. Hawksmoor
  11. Re: THE ULTIMATE BRICK -- What Do *You* Want To See? Actually, Clark still has to do this. But mirrors are all bought Missle Deflection can reflect -1 light based powers There are problems with this in that 1) Superman does not shoot laser beams from his eyes, in fact most writers actually prefer for the heat beams to be invisible SFX and 2) High energy attacks don't penetrate his aura of invulnerability any better than his own realitively (to Supes) low powered heat vision (it is his weakest attack power). But it makes a good image so I live with it. Hawksmoor
  12. Re: Devlin1 KA Question And because I like to be right, here is steve's reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The cost is calculated based only on the HKA -- the STR used or added doesn't factor in, because it can vary. However, when applying STR to an Advantaged attack, you have to pro-rate it, as described on 5E 272. __________________ Steve Long HERO System Line Developer Only Steve is more eloquent. Hawksmoor
  13. Re: The Authority:What the heck? Was that what Midnighter did? Ahem!! I was actually refering to issues 1-12. The Authority went on a rollercoaster to hell after that. Remember I think Heroes do not kill or maim. Villians do that! Hawksmoor
  14. Re: Killing Attacks vs. Energy Blasts Hero is based on a conceit. Most Attacks are not designed to kill. No matter how good or powerful they are. The granularity of the system does provide for killing your opponent with normal attacks. Hence dice give a lower quanity of body. A super level attack if it does not kill a normal will hospitalize them for some time, but against a super villian the body of an EB will bounce. Killing Attacks are different. Your desciptions were all angled from a killing attack perspective. Meaning that the effect on the victim was a key point of the description. That screams KA because normal attacks rack up STUN which while battering has no *long lasting* effect. To differentiate I would suggest thinking about genre and designing attacks that fit with the genre. Golden/Silver Age = Normal attacks predominate Iron Age = Killing Attacks are used most frequently Goofy Game = All attacks given the Does no Body limitation as a -0 limitation. Hawksmoor
  15. You Posted this: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I feel like an idiot for asking this, but.... A character has 15 STR, and has an OAF 1d6 HKA. How much does Armor Piercing (+1/2) for that HKA cost? It seems to me that cost should be calculated based on 30 points: 15 from STR, and 15 from the HKA. However, I almost always see this power bought just as: 1d6 HKA, Armor Piercing (+1/2), OAF: Sword (-1). Active Point Cost: 22, Real Cost: 11 However, by my logic, it ought to be: 1d6 HKA, OAF: Sword (-1) plus Naked Modifier, Armor Piercing on 30 Active Points, OAF: Sword (-1). Active Point Cost: 30, Real Cost: 15 I feel like I'm greatly overcomplicating what has seemed for years to be a simple matter. I feel the answer is this: No the first build is correct. You can do the second one (and it is more powerful) but you do not have to. The effect is that to add your PCs strength to the HKA you but compute your Active Points of STR as if they were AP. So you only add 10STR (15 AP = 10 STR +1/2 Advantage) to the attack giving you either a 1/2d6 or 1d6-1 as the GM allows. The Second build will automatically give you a 2d6 AP HKA. But it is not the true and only build possible. Hawksmoor
  16. Re: DEX vs. CSLs My vote is the difference comes down to game and genre. IMO Captain America is scary because he is a DEX Monkey with LOTS of skill levels. Same with the Batman. There is nothing wrong with a high dex if the game supports it. Back at New world Brick Dex was 20-23, Average Dex was 23-26, and Speedster Dex was 30+. Skill levels represented 'veteran' Supers that were more than good enough to level you. IMO Cyclops is a moderate maybe 18 DEX hero with lots of 3 pt, 5pt, 8 pt and Penalty Skill Levels. Hawksmoor
  17. Re: Need Help With Teleport Power Ditto it is a summon. And as a summon it is damn cheap. Hawksmoor -The Eyebrow has spoken!
  18. Re: Phermones >>Prime Michelle Pfeiffer probably would rate a 20+ COM(since every interview I ever read began by saying, "she really is that beautiful in person") << Michelle Pfieffer PERIOD! Hawksmoor -Thinking he should stop thinking about thinking about Michelle Pfieffer.

  20. Re: Uncle Sam Uncle Sam is listed in the now Defunct Mayfair Games 'The World at War" as DEX9 STR17 BODY 13 INT 4 WILL 11 MIND 11 INFL 10 AURA12 SPIRIT 11 DIMENSION TRAVEL 16 INVULNERABLILITY 19 Connections: US Govt (high) White House (High) Lightning Reflexes Scholar (US HISTORY, PATRIOTISM) Drawbacks: Uncle Sam's Powers are somehow tied to the will of the American People. If the people ever lose faith in their country, Uncle Sam would fade away until the people call on him again. So what does that mean? He is a fast as Batman, as Strong as Martian Manhunter, and more Durable than Wonderwoman (about x2 Steel skin toughness) He can obviously move between dimensions. And if you "kill" him he will just stand right back up. Invulnerability is like this combo power of Healing (Only when at Negative Body) and +50 Body only to set the limit that kills you -1 Uncle Sam has also demonstrated Growth and Jumping abilities but the author obviously missed those comics. I'd give him a whopping VVP for Brick tricks as well. Hope it helps Hawksmoor
  21. Re: Attacks v.s. Foci If it makes you feel any better Adjustment Powers are all Yield Sign. I am looking over the FAQ as I await Fred and I must say that Adjustment powers are the single most dangerous kind of power out their and are almost but not quite a STOP sign to me. Hawksmoor
  22. Re: The Authority:What the heck? I admit the "Iron Age" Heros kill and stuff is not to my taste. I remember laughing at Jack Hawksmoor saying he "hadn't punched somebody in the brain all day." Then feeling sick about the thought. But, despite everything I look at The Authority #1 and see a bunch of Superpowered goons destroying cities and The Authority stepping up and matching them and winning. No, in my book Heroes do not kill. The Authority are not heroes, they are warriors. Authority/Wildstorm world is at war. Their tactics are appropriate. Hawksmoor
