I prefer working for an establishment which doesn't make you wear a Thai for lunch....

Simple responses.
1. "A condition requiring a trip to the hospital is ALWAYS a big deal."
2. "ANY illness for a baby less than a month old isn't a big deal, it's a FREAKING CRISIS!"
3. "So you'd be just fine if your young kid had to be hospitalized?"
What scares me is, there's a decent chunk out there, who wouldn't buy any of these. THAT makes me want to scream.
Yes, it's anger.
And yes, it's fear. And frustration. And exhaustion.

False accusations often are things the accuser would have done in your place.

It does make sense. Weather isn't quite ready for electric blankies just yet.

Tom Cowan reacted to DShomshak in Political Discussion Thread (With Rules)
It makes me think of "Redemption," the White Southern aristocracy's campaign of political violence and violent politics to force Black people back into de facto slavery after Reconstruction ended. But this time aimed at women, or at least women outside of a particular class and ideology: As mentioned, white women of a certain income and social standing will still be able to do as they please. There have always been different rules for aristocrats and commoners. What continues to baffle me is how so many "commoners" approve of this, too.

And, of course, martial arts are another option. Remember: Martial Arts are not an eastern Asian thing. They are simply regimented, stylized combat systems of regular patterns. Boxing is a martial art, but so is one school of fencing or a particular region's teachings on how to fight as a knight.

I saw this today and thought it good enough to share. Source is: 'Freedom Cafe' description is a perfect response to arguments against mask requirements - Upworthy
"Welcome to the Freedom Cafe! We trust you to make your own choices if you want to wear a face mask. And, in the same spirit of individual liberty, we allow our staff to make their own choices about the safety procedures they prefer to follow as they prepare and serve your food."
"We encourage employees to wash their hands after using the bathroom, but understand that some people may be allergic to certain soaps or may simply prefer not to wash their hands. It is not our place to tell them what to do."
"We understand that you may be used to chicken that has been cooked to 165 degrees. We do have to respect that some of our cooks may have seen a meme or a YouTube video saying that 100 degrees is sufficient, and we do not want to encroach on their beliefs."
"Some of our cooks may prefer to use the same utensils for multiple ingredients, including ingredients some customers are allergic to. That is a cook's right to do so."
"Some servers may wish to touch your food as they serve it. There is no reason that a healthy person with clean hands can't touch your food. We will take their word for it that they are healthy and clean."
"Water temperature and detergent are highly personal choices, and we allow our dishwashing team to decide how they'd prefer to wash the silverware you will put in your mouth.
"Some of you may get sick, but almost everyone survives food poisoning. We think you'll agree that it's a small price to pay for the sweet freedom of no one ever being told what to do - and especially not for the silly reason of keeping strangers healthy."

Tom Cowan reacted to Ternaugh in The cranky thread
I took my cat, Smudgen, to the vet one last time yesterday. I had been dreading it, but I really couldn't put it off anymore. She was almost 17, but it had been a battle over the last 6 months or so to make sure that she would eat, and she had lost a lot of weight. The house is so quiet now.
This was her enjoying a movie with me in happier times.

Since the vast majority of hospitalized COVID patients haven't been vaccinated, I see this as a moot point. Here's the actual memo text:
