The core issue is that by nature, every Hero System game is it's own thing. If the average CV in your game is 8 and the average in another game is 10, characters are not going to play the same. One point of CV difference can make a big difference over the long haul. Same with skill rolls, defenses, attacks, movement rates, etc. Is your character good at this? Overpowered? Deficient? You'll never know out of context because different groups have different preferences. For a long time, I wished that published characters and villains would have used a delta notation for descriptions where their OCV would be defined as [+- X] which is a modifier on whatever number represented average at your table. Ditto with damage classes, defenses, etc. That way, Grond is always stupidly strong and tough, no matter what the average numbers your group uses. (I have seen some truly redonkulus outliers)

I'm not going to judge the guy for not handling a situation so rare that it is likely that no player on either roster will ever witness a similar event during the rest of their careers.

Do you believe in the peaceful transfer of power? Fifth. -
Ah yes, thanks for catching that. On the subject of not being coachable, isn't he the one with the quote about not seeing the team as having a head coach? It was a while ago, so I forget.

Need Assistance Creating Character Complications...

my favorite: Magically Delicious. Physical Limitation. Any magically oriented predator will be drawn to the PC because whatever they think is the most tasty, nutritious or whatever motivates them to hunt, the PC is the best prey they have ever encountered. -

One aspect of the Wiggins trade that hasn't gotten a lot of attention is that he, like Kawhi Leonard, did not want to get vaccinated against Covid-19. Both he and Leonard play for teams that mandated that the unvaxxed would not be allowed to play in their team's home games. After some consultations with the team management, Wiggins ended up getting the jab, while Kawhi did not. Fast forward and Wiggins was an all star game starter and NBA champion and Leonard's team, picked by many to be the Eastern Conference Champions, ended up swept out of the playoffs. Talent is critical, but being coachable, both on and off the court, makes a huge difference.

You may not like it, but this is what peak capitalism looks like. -
I liked 4th/5th ed. 6e disappointed me. They made some sweeping changes and failed to playtest or stress test them adequately. Everyone just shrugs and says it's the GMs responsibility to ban/limit these problems at their tables, but that just worsens one of the most persistant complaints about Champions, is that it puts too much of a load on the GM.

The counter argument to not packing the courts is that just letting them run amok is going to do lasting harm right now. In real time. If you limit their ability to erode human rights now, at least it kicks the can down the road and opens up the possibility that things might actually improve. Sure, they could undo things if they ever regain power, but that was going to be the case anyway. If you're not going to use your temporary advantage to change the situation to redress the obvious injustices done by the other side by refusing to even give Garland a hearing and to ramrod their candidate in record time, what is even the point? -

here's hoping that the GOPs local moves to gain a stranglehold over local and state elections don't grant them the ability to decertify any election results that don't agree with them... -
My favorite approach is to define a [GENERIC BAD GUY] who has campaign specific typical values for CVs DCs, DEFs, STUN, SPD. Look at your character and imagine you are attacking GBG. calculate your typical hit rate, figure out how much damage you expect per hit and figure out how many seconds of combat you think it will take to KO the GBG. Next, look at the flip side and figure out what are the odds of GBG hitting your PC and how much damage a hit will do and calculate how many seconds your PC will last while under attack by GBG. It doesn't tell you everything involved in power balance, but it gives a pretty objective metric for comparing relative power levels. It also works no matter what your table considers 'average' because I have experienced a broad range of values over the decades.

Curry gets hurt, next game he erupts for 43 points and 10 boards. Game after that, can't hit a single 3 pointer, breaking the longest streak of playoff games with a made 3 in NBA history. No telling what happens in game 6.

for a truly chaotic event, I had considered really randomizing things. Have every combatant put one card with their name on it for each SPD point into a deck. Shuffle and reveal each action. The deck, once depleted, ends the current turn and post 12 recoveries happen. Mass hysteria. It would be pretty wild, but I don't know if it would be very playable in the long term.

SPD is literally a force multiplier. Which means that its importance is directly linked to the force it is multiplying. If you give a nothingburger agent a 12 SPD, it is still a nothingburger. If you give an effective combatant a 12 SPD, then you have a potential problem. I am more concerned with the rest of the character sheet than just the SPD stat.

Apparently the Russians are resorting to mounting weapons on civilian vehicles now. https://www.iiss.org/blogs/analysis/2022/02/russias-military-technical-solution-for-ukraine I guess they get better gas mileage than their military vehicles, but now you don't even need more than small arms fire to take them out.
