I always assumed it was because some people found it easier to suck up to the game master than to learn a game system.

I've often found it irritating when a PC collects a gaggle of NPCs that start to infringe on the spotlight, especially when they start crowding out PCs when it comes to specialist knowledge or capabilities.

If the stock answer to an esoteric question is: Let me consult with my staff, then you know that you and the other players are guest stars in a solo campaign.

It takes, what 6 points to have enough of a barrier to completely enclose a hex. Another 4 points increases the depth to the point where you would need to double the body to break through it.

So a 60 active point barrier can double bag a human sized opponent with 100 body worth of barrier.

    Sounds balanced, right?

If this gets him convicted of violating the law he signed into existence, that would break the ironymeter.

Melee/Wizard used the 3d6 mechanic before Champions. In addition TFT, the broader RPG based off of Melee Wizard introduced an escalating die mechanic where really difficult tasks were rolling 4 or even 5d6 vs your stat. (low rolls being better)

I often wondered why it wasn't an option in HERO to roll more dice in order to achieve greater results in skill rolls.

2d6 is the most damage I would see from a racquetball. Maybe less if it's being thrown instead of being struck with a racket. There's no way it would do any more damage than a punch.

Well, sure. Just create a halfling that is a spellcaster with healing and/or good buff/debuff spells and team it up with a beefy well armored martial character and go all Master/Blaster on people.

I am currently playing a halfling Summoner in Pathfinder(1) who has taken feats that enable her to pass for a human child when she dresses and acts appropriately. She also has a stupidly strong humanoid outsider that she summons that has the appearance of a heavily armored man. They are doing the Little Sister/ Big Daddy schtick from Bioshock.

The other thing the west in general and the US in particular is getting out of their involvement in Ukraine is that their Military Industrial Complexes are in position to make a killing while the Russian military is just getting killed.

Moving forward, what country is going to want to invest in Russian military hardware after watching it get pwnd by NATO stuff? Besides the bad press, Russia is going to have a hard time filling any external orders because all of its production capacity is already pre-spent just trying to replenish its lost inventory.

Besides that, the Pentagon and other nations are going to be able to make much more informed decisions about what systems to invest in and what to avoid based on the performances of said systems in a real world testing ground.

BNakagawa got a reaction from Lord Liaden in What does a Champion campaign really looks like ?
Back to the original question of the thread: There are two distinct types of superhero campaigns.

One is a single-axis campaign and it is usually set in a pretty normal setting against which a war rages between two powerful factions. Sometimes, the war is like vs like as in Autobots v Decepticons or Order of the Phoenix v Death Eaters or X-Men v Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Pick a side and join the fight.

The other type is the typical kitchen sink campaign and it features a mishmash of character types and an equally disparate collection of adversaries. In a typical multiplayer campaign, any enemy faction has to be strong enough to avoid getting wiped out by a hero team and there are usually at least one type of adversary for every type of hero, so by nature, there are usually more villains than heroes. What keeps the world from spiraling into dystopia is that villains don't typically work and play well together, so they are not always amenable to teaming up against the heroes.

BNakagawa reacted to Steve Long in Darren Watts In Hospital
Unfortunately we have some terrible news to report. Darren Watts, who used to be one of our business partners in DOJ Inc./Hero Games and has also worked for many other companies in the RPG industry, suffered a very serious heart attack last Thursday (December 22, 2022). It appears that his brain was without oxygen for an as yet unknown period.

Darren's currently under sedation at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. While he isn't conscious, his wife Diane tells me he can receive visitors.

We'll keep the forum posted as the situation warrants. In the meantime, please keep Darren in your thoughts and prayers.
