Most PCs...

Re: Most PCs... I know, but back before combined attacks Multipowers were a distinctly better deal than ECs. Players would buy movement power and defense at (more or less) full price and then get a MP with about a half dozen attacks. This works out to be a lot cheaper than buying 8 or even (usually) 6 powers through an Elemental Control. Most of my players figured this out quickly and I didn't see many ECs. It was back at this point that I started considering MPs more equal relative to other builds. Now that the rules allow combined attacks, ECs would be a lot more desirable than they use to be but alas they are no more.

Most PCs...

Re: Most PCs... Oops. Well that's embarrassing. I guess it shows that I haven't had all that many play opportunities since fourth edition. Well, at least the decision to drop elemental controls now makes sense to me. The ability to buy a number of independent offensive powers at a reasonable price could make for some very short fights. Okay, I largely withdrawal my initial objection though I still think Multipowers are an incredible deal.

Most PCs...

Re: Most PCs... Once characters have a variety of powers, even if they aren't bought through a Multipower, they are going to find themselves choosing to use some and not others in any given action phase. This is particularly true with attacks since those -2 OCV penalties for extra attacks add up quickly. So accusing the Multipower of removing 90% of the options is a bit of the opportunities is a bit of an exaggeration since choices were going to have to made in any event. Instead of robbing the character of nine powers in an action, it more deprives her of one or two that she might have been able to successfully used during the phase. Meow.

Most PCs...

Re: Most PCs... Well, it was just my opinion that MP giving a much larger cost savings than equivalent limitation was a flaw, so you can certainly hold the opposite opinion. However, the fact that under some circumstances multiple ultra slots can be used at the same time makes them less limiting than the Lockout limitation. Since they place less of a limit on the character they would be expected to provide less in the way of a cost savings, not more.

7. Re: Pulp Magazine Cover Generator Don't know why I didn't see that section. Thanks for pointing it out.
8. Re: Pulp Magazine Cover Generator This is what I made. I like Tales of the Rocket Patrol but wish they had given us the option of customizing the title or least a selection.
9. Re: Fins and Ray-Guns You should check out The Digital Comic Museum. Charlton, Avon and Youthful Publishing all have comics in this general genre though admittedly ray-guns are a lot more common than fins. Also, it been advertised at this board before, but I'm going to make a shout out to the web series The Mercury Men anyway. No fins but still very cool.
10. Re: What makes a great Iron Age campaign setting? Ouch! Do your players have Stockholm syndrome? Seriously though, that absence of white hats is very Iron Age. If it is Rust Age both the government and the crime syndicate will be complete bastards. If it is "good" Iron Age they will just be morally complicated.

12. Re: What makes a great Iron Age campaign setting? Yes, but not just local governments. Assume that the federal government or at least some federal agencies are interested in either putting the superheroes in a lab and studying them or in coercing them to work for the government.
13. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities The problem is that some words, and the B word is one of them, have a slap in the face feel to some groups of people. So, while referring to woman in derogatory terms is completely in character for the sort of thugs that say it in Arkham City, hearing the word is going to sting for a lot of people (mostly woman) and take them out of the enjoyment of the game. This problem is compounded by the fact that it is thug dialogue and each piece of thug dialoge repeated scores if not hundreds of times during the game. So, if the word has a sting factor for you, expect to feel that sting plenty before you make it to the end of the game. That is if the gratuitous camera shots of Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quin's various assets don't drive you off first.
14. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities I hope you are right about the slop not being that slippery. My impression was that Mr. Harris does find nerds pathetic but he includes himself in their numbers. Really his tirade screamed personal insecurity to me. I'm not going to claim to have him totally figured based on a single, possibly drunken Facebook posting. Still it seems obvious, he is not an emotionally healthy man, at least in some regards.
15. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Good point. However, having your employer act as the police of what you can and cannot say instead of the government is not much of an improvement. I never said Mr. Harris's words weren't offensive. They were. That is not my point. My point is that going after someones livelihood is a very severe response. Things like bankruptcy, loss of a home, and/or failure of a marriage can all follow from the loss of employment. I have had bad service, rude service and incompetent service, and I have never went out and tried to get someone fired. I've complained about specific items but I've never gone after someone's job. Because bad, rude or incompetent, I have yet to have service that warranted ruining the servers life over it. As for boycotting and complaining to employers being the only voice consumers have, you are not a consumer at least not in the extent that it defines you. You are a person and you have many ways available to you voice your views. How is it that the thorough refutation of Tony Effing Harris's rant has received on the internet is not sufficient response? Why isn't it good enough that words be answered with words? Why is more blood required? I'm not saying that you should buy the products of artist have offended you. I'm saying going to someone's employer over something that one of their employees did on their own time, is almost always excessive IMO. 1a) The right to free speech does not include the right to certain forms of hate speech. However, Mr. Harris did not call for the violent extermination of fake geek girls or the fire bombing of their homes, so he probably didn't cross any legal lines. 1b) Nobody gets through a full life without at some point or another being a complete schmuck. 2) Empty point. Nothing, not even hard work and good conduct, guarantees employment. If you want to live in a world where we have to monitor everything we say both on and off company time for fear that someone will report it to, well ... that make one of us.
16. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities I never said it was in private. I said it was on his own time. As for whether he has seriously tainted his brand, doesn't that remain to be seen? A drop in the sales of the book(s) that he works on would be a good indication. Probably need to wait to see sales numbers for the next several months. Generally when I hear about someone getting fired over expressing an opinion on Facebook, I'm not pleased about it. Yes, I realize it's not a good idea to bad mouth your employer online and it's also not a good idea to bad mouth your customers. However, Mr. Harris made it clear that the people he was talking about weren't customers. He specifically said there were female cosplayers who were true comic book fans and that he wasn't talking about them. In his view probably everyone who was a Facebook friend of his, male or female, was someone that he was not talking about as he complained about certain female cosplayers. He was probably completely surprised when some of them were offended anyway. Perhaps I am underestimating the harm done by his statements. However, have you considered the harm of silencing conversation on these topics? If we hold the hammer of unemployment and permanent unemployable status over people who express opinions we find disagreeable, how much honest conversation can we expect on these topics. Indeed, Mr. Harris may have done us all a favor by raising the topic.
17. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Really? Someone says something stupid on their own personal blog, on their own time and no one is actually hurt and you want them to wind up up without work? Personally, I'm very reluctant to wish unemployment on anyone. This particularly true when their offense is something that is completely legal and they did it on their own time.

Costumes

Re: Costumes Good costumes (not already mentioned) Phoenix's green and yellow costume (Iron Fist's costume in the same color scheme isn't bad either) Moon Knight's costume Bad costumes Pretty much everything designed by Jim Lee for the new DC is either bad or at the very least not near as good as the costume it's replacing.
21. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Opps, sorry. Somehow I goofed the quote.
22. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities You aren't alone in thinking that Omega Male is too cool a term for the wolf that all the other wolves pick on. The people at Urban Dictionary agree. However, I was interested in the animal behaviorist definition not the sorority girl definition.
23. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Yes, I lived it and I did basically what I said in my earlier post. I studied hard, got good grades, got a college degree, a good job and a wife. And, oh yes, at some point I ditched my omega status. Of course this took quite a while and it doesn't seem to happen for everybody. My quest to rid myself of my omega status was helped by the fact that I was never an omega in my home growing up. In (relatively) non-dysfunctional homes there are no omegas. In a functional home there are only alphas, betas and alphas and beta in training. IMO, that is how society should be; no omegas, just alphas, betas and alpha and beta in training. As for the how to get there, I thought AmadanNaBriona had some good suggestions in the post which I quoted above. Yes, this is slow stuff which would probably need at least decade to really pay off in a more emotionally healthy geek community. However, this approach of early socialization and the approach of confronting creepy behavior in the here and now are not mutually exclusive. Both can be done with each yielding different but complimentary goods.
