1. Re: Jeremiah - the Watcher Can he communicate with these Watchers? Can he ask questions? I've made a couple characters over the years that could talk to the dead, and I've always bought this as retrocognition. That is because the main use that he got out of these conversations was asking them things about the past. Depending on what abilities you want to give spirits precognition and clairsentience might have also been appropriate for a talk with the dead ability. Now, Jeremiah the Watcher doesn't speak with the dead, he speaks with watchers. Still, if the benefit that you are looking for is the the occasional ability to find out what has occurred at a location or what is occurring somewhere else (and being communicated through the Watcher network) then you might want to consider retrocognition or clairsentience. This would let the GM know what benefit you expect to gain from being able hear Watchers and give her a clear reason to give you this benefit, you've paid points for it.
  2. Re: Jeremiah - the Watcher Sorry if I'm being a bit dense here, but what is the class of things that he detects with his The Voiceless Voices, and what is the large class of things that he detects with his Universal Understanding power?
  3. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete Oooh, oooh, oooh! **frantic arm waving** I volunteer to help with the research.
  4. Re: [New Product] Champions Complete Sorry if I'm repeating a question that has already been asked, but could you offer a kindle version as well as PDF version?
  5. Re: Superman Averts World War II? Poland was also a member of the League of Nations. As pointed out by another poster the International Court would have released Hitler because they were not that sort of court, but I can't see any big appologies forthcoming. As for arresting Superman to appease the Germans, wouldn't have happened. Supes would have been a potential strategic game changer and we weren't all that afraid of the Germans. Afterall, we had just kick their tail 20 years earlier and would have been confident of our ability to do so again even without Superman's aid. However, the contest would be something that the government could use to draw the Man of Steel closer under its wing which is something it would have wanted to do from the moment that he appeared on the scene.
  6. Re: Turning into living, semi-liquid metal IMO you are on the right track with your build. Stretching, desolidification and resistant protection are all good choices for this type of character, and the susceptibility to cold is good too. You might consider multiform instead of density increase. Then you can make the inability to change to her normal form when cold a limitation on that form. Edit: It might also make sense for her not be able to change into her metal form when it's cold. Then both forms could be taken with the limitation 'can't change into when cold'.
  7. Re: Wealth and Super Heroes If I'm GMing a game and I want all the characters to go to Europe, even if none of them have the money to buy plane tickets I will find a way to get them there. Of course if I want the players to get to the other side of a locked door I will find some way to work that out, so why bother to spend points on security systems? Also, I won't make the villains so tough that the heroes can't beat them so what is the point of powers and combat skills? Matter of fact since the GM will just do all the work to make sure story proceeds, why even bother to show up? Clearly your presence is not needed. People spend points so their characters can be rich for the same reason that they buy flight and super strength; because it is cool. It's fun to be the big man and say, "Hey, I will buy everybody's plane ticket to Paris." For most of us, just being able to open up our wallets and being able to plop out $10k and not have to worry about it is as impossible as lifting a bus. So, Hero charges you for the coolness of it, but not as much as it would charge you to lift that bus. That is because while you might not be able to spend $10k and not sweat it, some people can. No one can lift a bus. Therefore, being able to lift a bus is cooler than being rich, even though they are both cool. There are games where the background you write is your character. If you think that your character's should have whatever is written into their backgrounds you should play one of those game. Hero forces you to make choices concerning what cool things your character can do and possesses and it does this through its point system. Money is just another cool thing you can elect to spend points on or not.
  8. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities It's not being male; it's being a man. At least that is his take on it.
  9. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Actually, it's a little known fact that most bullies are human beings and as such have better natures which can potentially be engaged. Also, while while there are extreme instances of misogyny which warrant nothing buy condemnation, a lot of misogyny is more subtle and argument, engagement and answering questions are all appropriate responses. His whole obsession with 'being a man' weirded me out a bit too. Really he is trying much too hard.
  10. Re: Alien Drone Limited Effect: Infrared only seems like a lot more limiting than -1/4 to me. You are dropping from being flat out invisible with all the advantages that entails to being invisible to one sort of sensor that your enemies tend to not use once in actual combat. Seems to me that should be good for at least a -1.
  11. Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill Dropping the nuke and taking out the metropolitan area along with the military base be okay if the military base represented a significant enough threat and you lacked a smaller weapon that could get the job done with less collateral damage.
  12. Re: Jeremiah - the Watcher What do you mean by "durable by human standards"? His durability seems totally normal by human standards.
  13. Re: There shall soar... the surfer girl! The artist who did Maja for me has very reasonable rates for character drawings. You can contact her through her deviantart account if you are interested. link
  14. Re: Kara Loft: Lost In The Sands Of Egypt Good write-up. Personally, I would give Lara, um sorry Kara, an 18 INT. She is very smart and thinks fast which is what Hero INT really measures. Also, since you bought up all of her INT based skills, it would save points. You could use those saved points to buy up her Presence. Lara, um Kara, has a high presence judging by her ability to face the most fearsome of opponents and make jokes.
  15. Re: Anyone have pre-made star ships??? You can get the Alien Wars Hero Designer pack for $3, and it contains all the vehicles found in the Alien War campaign setting book.

    Maja

Re: Maja Yeah, even when I go big I go small. I made a cosmic noob. These things don't seem to go together, since most of your cosmic types years if not millenniums of experience, but it is what I did. As such, I don't really expect her to come out on top while battling other cosmic types. I just don't want her to be immediately crushed of wind up getting killed.

    Maja

I don't normally make hugely powerful characters and Maja is the most powerful and expensive character I have ever written up. Comments and suggestions are both welcomed and appreciated. The troublesome triangle in question dated back to when Maja at age 13 ditched her mom and her mom's @$$**** boyfriend of the week and moved to The City. She had barely gotten off the bus when a couple chickenhawks started tailing her. She spotted them right away, but there is a difference between knowing they are there and knowing what to do about them. She told the chickenhawks that she did not want anything to do with them, but they didn't want to take no for an answer. Then out of nowhere this boy about her age and half her size told them to mind their own business and leave her alone. They laughed at the boy and tried to shove him aside, only to have him go Bruce Lee on them and beat the living s*** out of both them. She would later learn that his real name was Tyrel Turner, but the boy introduced himself as Solid. Her name back then was Margaret Johnson but she introduced herself as Maja, like Mojo only feminine she explained. As Solid showed her an abandoned apartment building she could stay in, Margaret now Maja was already falling hard for her pint size rescuer. The other leg of the triangle she would meet a few weeks later. Finding out that Maja was in to computers but had left hers back when she ran away, Solid introduced her to a teenage hacker who called himself S2N who hooked her up with a new rig, one much better than any computer she had had before. S2N stood stood for signal to noise, but he would also answer to Noise, STN or Satan. The last name seemed particulary apt to Maja because he was an amoral bastard. Still her knees went weak whenever he kissed her, which was something that Solid never did. Time passed, thing changed. Maja became one of the worlds best hackers, maybe the very best who wasn't a cyberkinetic. Her sweet rescuer, Tyrel Turner, entered a battle royale held by a crime cartel for a chance at a dose of super serum. He won, and soon the world new the name Solid as a supervillain to feared and respected. The amoral hacker who rang her bells found out about a secret government program and with a fake identity the the reccomendation of a senator managed to get an alien computer implanted inside his head. Somehow along with the alien computer the hacker acquired a conscious and going by the name of Renaissance is counted amongst the good guys.Throughout all these changes the triangle persisted with her always seeming to be persuing one or both boys and the boys alternately pursuing and fleeing from her. Still, whether pursuing or fleeing Renaisance or Solid always seemed to be there to rescue her when she got into trouble which she did a lot. That was until The Invasion. Solid and Renaissance along with most of the worlds superheroes and supervillains were fighting on the same side to beat back the attack of an extra-dimensional conquerer. Not Viper though. Viper saw the distraction of the superheroes as their big chance to bring the serpent deity, Nama, to Earth. By this point Maja, no longer challenged by hacking computers had moved onto studying dimensional physics. The snakes kidnapped her operate a dimensional portal machine that they had stolen, and with both Renaissance and Solid busy off saving the world Maja realized their would be no rescue for her forthcoming.Fortunately Maja knew things about dimensions that the snake didn't know. She knew that the laws of physics did not work same everywhere you went. There were dimension where time flowed slower of even backwards. Dimensions where light was the slowest of the particles and dimensions the universe was just born and all the energy of creation was still infusing every bit of expanding space. So, when she opened the dimensional gate it wasn't into Nama's dimension and when she closed it again all the snakes were gone. he didn't stop there, though. To someone with Maja knowledge of dimensional physics the portal generator was more powerful weapon the scientist of Viper could ever understand.Cloaked in the energy of a younger universe and armed with the power to make the laws of physic dance to her tune, Maja turned the tide of the battle against the Istvatha V'han's forces and in the process saved Renaissance, Solid and indeed the whole world. Since that fateful day, Maja has worked to transition from being an overweight, math whiz who needed to be rescued a lot to one of the world's most powerful superheroes. Part of the transition was telling Solid and Renaissance that she was tired all love triangle games and that she wanted them both because they each gave her something that the other could not. Amazingly the two men accepted her pronouncement, and agreed to her co-consorts. That is not however to say that the relationship always goes smoothly.

CAMPAIGN_USE

Maja makes a great taxi. Her life support, flight and FTL can all be use on to up to 4 additional people (or extended to 8 at GMs discretion). So she can transport a group of heroes to another planet and then impulsively fly off to face some other menace rather than stick around and steal the PC's thunder. Then if they want a trip home the PCs might have to come to Maja's rescue over some situation her inexperience got her into.Maja also makes a good candidate for a hero versus hero misunderstanding fight. Her living programs, heavy/zero gravity fields and her barriers allow her to put up a good fight against an entire team of starting superheroes. Later on it can turn out the misunderstanding was engineered by Maja's enemy Cybermind or Viper. However, the fight does not have to be the result of a misunderstanding. Solid while mostly retired as a supervillain still has lingering legal issues that sometimes bring him into conflict with the authorities. Should a group of PCs take on Solid, Maja will not hesitate to protect her man (or one of them anyway) even if Solid is in the wrong.

PERSONALITY

In her life most of the people that Maja has known have in one way or another been on the wrong side of the law. They have hackers, hackavist, drug users, squaters, prostitutes, petty crooks, not so petty crooks and the people who prey upon these peoples. Consequenly, Maja makes very little connection between things being illegal and things being wrong. For instance, while Maja will stop a property crime if she sees one in process she is unlikely to try to capture or punish the perpetrater if the victim can afford to lose whatever is being stolen. On the other hand, she can be very eye-for-an-eye-tooth-for-a tooth on violent criminals. Both of this attitudes have made her relationship with the authorities uneasy since becoming a superhero. Despite, a very hard upbringing, Maja is an extremely caring person who can not bear to see others suffer. This combined with her general impulsiveness and inexperience as a superhero can lead to her making bad decisions at times. However, she always means well, and she is a genius and frequently comes up with novel solutions for the problems that she sees.

QUOTE

"Since you didn't hurt anyone I'm going to let you go with a warning this time, but if I catch you mugging anyone else I'm going to come down on you hard."

TACTICS

Maja has tucked away the dimensional portal generator that Viper was going to use to summon the serpent deity in a pocket dimension and accesses its remotely. She can do this using a holographic "touch screen" interface projected from her control bracelets (gestures). For example if she wanted 3 of her living programs to attack one of her foes she would drag their control icons over and put them on top of the icon that the interface had created to represent the foe that she wanted to attack. Alternately, she can interface with the portal generator verbally (incantations) by talking into a device that looks like a bluetooth. Since the verbal interface requires very specific directions for most things, Maja tends to find it clunky and perfers the holographic "touch" interface. Maja does not have much experience as a superhero and she knows it. For this this reason, she like hang back and send her "living programs" into combat before her. The living programs are constructs made out of solid energy borrowed from a dimension all energy is solid. They tend to be one or two trick ponies which owe a lot of both look and behaiver video game monsters. So they might look like giant wasp and fly around and fire energy stings or look like great ogres and swing a giant club. The one exception to this video game mimicking, is she makes one type of living program that can attachs itself to any nearby machine and take control of the machine. After unleashing her living programs, she will use slow time bubbles and/or areas of heavy gravity to make her opponents easier targets for her programs. She reserves her blast and her killing attack only for the toughest and most odious of opponents.Maja can play with fundamental rules of physics. Potentially the ways she can use the portal generator are virtually limitless. It is only her inexperience that keeps her limited to a small suite of powers. In time her multipower will no doubt be traded in for a VPP. Currently, she can use her power skill to sometimes give a hint a the versatility that she will one day pocess.

APPEARANCE

Height: 1.65 m (5'5")

Weight: 105.00 kg (231 lbs)

Hair: Black

Eyes: Brown

Maja looks very much like Gabourey Sidibe, the star of the movie Precious, would look if she were a superhero. That is to say that she is young, obese black woman with an attractive face and a winning smile. Her costume consist of a white mid-thigh length dress with a "magic cleavage window" ala Power Girl and ankle length white boots. The dimensional portal generater that is the source of all her powers is tucked away in a pocket dimension. She interfaces with the portal generater through a control bracelet touch and a blu-tooth looking microphone verbal interface. She also has a holographic HUD that floats in front of her and allows her use to interface with the combat computer she uses for targeting and managing her defenses. The HUD also can be used to watch video accessed through her HRRP.

Base Pts: 1000 Exp Required: 30 Total Exp Available: 0 Exp Unspent: 0 Total Character Cost: 1030
  19. Re: The Good and Bad about Marvel and DC I'm not going to disagree with you about Cassandra Cain, since I never cared for her. However, I am going disagree about the standard of success. Characters that title their own books for decades/generations are extremely rare. Making them the standard of success is like saying that all actors that don't make at least 20 million dollars a picture are failures just because some do. By your criteria of success Shang Chi - Failure GrimJack - Failure Jon Sable - Garbage not worth talking about The Micronauts - Who? Rom SpaceKnight - Failure Nexus - Failure Badger - Junk The Human Fly - Dog poop The New Mutants - Failure Whisper - Junk etcetera Personally, I consider any book that makes it to its fiftieth issue in the brutal world of comic book publishing to be a success. Heck, even managing to publish 12 issues of a title is something to be proud of.

  21. Re: British Heroes I'm pretty sure there are more than 4 villains from the UK scattered throughout the 3 volumes of the CVV. Volume 3 for instance has three - Black Paladin, Cairngorm and Cateran. Beyond villains that are explicitly from the British Isles, there are scads of villains whose background doesn't say anything at all about where they are originally from. So, there is no more work in claiming them than simply saying 'hey, Morningstar is from Dublin'. However, if you want heroes and villains with a distinctly English feel to them, you would probably need a resident of the isles to write a supplement. Hey, what are you doing at this time?
  22. Re: Champions Villains 3: Solo Villains Kickstarter is LIVE I remember them saying the books would probably ship in August.
