  1. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The thing that gives me the giggles is ... what's the opportunity? For people to take headshots at faculty/staff? If so, as faculty, I'll arrange to be somewhere else at the time. But if it's an opportunity for faculty/staff to take headshots at targets they want, damn I want in on that action.
  2. The Champions team has accumulated enough pooled XP's so we can afford a VTOL aircraft to transport us all, maybe. That leads to yet another silly rules question from someone who's never thought much about building vehicles before ... There's an old Rule Question thread bearing on the situation of modifying a negative DCV (here) saying that the worst DCV a character can end up with is zero. Does this same statement apply to large vehicles (like jet aircraft)? If so, then the negative base DCV (when you build one) for these things really means how much DEX you must build into the thing before it matters, and/or how many Combat Piloting SL's the pilot has to have before any meaningful evasive maneuvers can be performed with it? Seems like for any plausible vehicle, that sort of makes Combat Piloting worthless, since you'll need to spend a dozen or two character points before any possible benefit can be realized. Alternately, your vehicle will consume scores more character points in construction than originally imagined before it's anything but a Big Fat Target.
  3. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Once again, the administration gives me the giggles by sending out an email with the subject "Faculty/Staff Headshot Opportunity". Yeesh.
  4. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat They look exactly like they do in real life right now. NT: Subtle signs your GM is out for a T.P.K. must quicker than you anticipated.
  5. Re: The Last Word I think the flavor is more Silver Age, actually.
  6. Re: The Last Word No, tonight's game night. A group of heroes (including the inappropriately-named Mr. Terrific) go to deal with Giant Alien Battle Mechs.
  7. Re: Star Hero/Traveller Hero star map request: Root around in Nyrath's website. He's got Just About Everything in terms of star maps. EDIT: from his user data page, it's http://www.projectrho.com/starmap.html
  8. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Email from our tech support crew, about going off Daylight Time in November: Talk about unbridled optimism. I've never thought Windows dealt with time differences straddling a D/S time change properly.
  9. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Eight Rules for Dating My ... uh ... Female Subordinate Professor X: "I know what you're thinking, son. And I mean that in the literal sense." Potential Jean Grey date: "Uh, ..." Prof X: "You're wondering about the bald guy in the wheelchair who isn't her dad but acts like it and whether you can blow him off and get into Jean's pants tonight." PJGD: ((gulp)) Prof X: "Hey, it's cool. If you bring her home alive, you're doing better than most of her dates." NT: Reality Survivor-type venues that would never get shown on TV.
  10. Re: The Last Word Not for me. Not for 15 hours or so.
  11. Re: Locations to cover the United States... There's almost certainly a formal mathematical way to do this; it corresponds to getting a best fit to an eight-component, probably population-weighted (though if you have sites out in the unpopulated areas that require superior coverage, that skews the weighting from just population) fit to the country.
  12. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I sheepishly admit I don't recognize the picture, so it doesn't mean a lot to me in any event.
  13. Re: The Last Word Time window, yes. And I don't think it starts running regular service until later this fall. I see them still working on track etc. in some spots.
  14. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Feral momcat went back to the shelter yesterday; she has an adopter already. The kittens we still have. They seem a bit lost without mom in one of her four hiding spots. But I think we have more hope of socializing them better without her around, since all she did was hide and flinch at noises, and those habits have rubbed off on them.
  15. Re: The Last Word Heh. Yeah, I work at the north end of it, for the next week. Then I shift to the university, a half-hour hillclimb walk from here.
  16. Re: The Last Word They're putting in a new streetcar here which starts next to one of my workplaces and runs downtown ... not a long stretch, I can walk that in half an hour or a bit less. We're at the south end of Lake Union. So the thing got a quick obvious initial nickname, the South Lake Union Trolley. A coffee shop had an inspiration, and sold "Ride the S.L.U.T." t-shirts ... which sold out rapidly.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings Though Tampa fans root for Buccaneers, who are pretty much the same thing.
  18. Re: Complicate the Person Above After L. Marcus pees on the soil around them, hydrangeas bloom bright metallic gold.
  19. Re: The Last Word Well, about half the people who have ever lived are alive now, and I guess 6e+9 (Americans call that 6 billion) is the right ball park for the number alive now. Yes, but think of the power....
  20. Re: The Last Word Infinitely many.
  21. Re: Answers & Questions (OFF TOPIC: Did you know that "kissing the gunner's daughter" is old naval slang for being tied over a cannon and beaten with a cane, as a form of punishment for a minor offense?) Q: When I catch the scurvy dog who drank me grog and stole me treasure map, I'll see him dance on air. A: No. There isn't a white whale here, either.
  22. Re: The Last Word "You are a single point in an N-dimensional manifold."
  23. Re: The Last Word Weren't you they guy boasting about a test score not that long ago?
  24. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Had to get a new clutch once, but that's it. That was while we lived in Pullman, and the only truly level, uncurved surface in town is on small parts of the Palouse River as it went through. The rest was all slope.
