  1. Re: Sonics - tired power, need new ideas Don't forget a Find Weakness based on careful analysis of the vibrations induced in an object ... non-destructive ultrasonic testing. Won't work on force fields/walls, most likely, but that still leaves a lot. (Hmm, BoloOfEarth got this ahead of me.) Change Environment (the slippery floor thing, but in this case, it's a bouncing floor) inducing strong vibrations in the floor, so everyone falls down. "That's so loud I can't hear myself think!" ... INT, PRE, EGO Drains, maybe even Suppress on mental powers. Heck, with the right vibration-induction you can Suppress machinery ("Hey! The car won't start!"). If you're really hokey, you could put together a sonic-based physical-only Force Wall by making the air molecules vibrate in phase (not allowing other material objects to pass through). The opposite effect, a limited-volume UAO Desolid where you induce a section of material to "phase out" temporarily by playing with the vibrations in the material, is also a possibility that's out at the hokey end. Affects Desolid is a natural for sound-based powers with a lot of Desolid sfx. And do NOT forget sonar. Simple Invisibility and Darkness turn ineffective.
  2. Re: Multiform Well, this Multiformer is in a Champions campaign, and the form-change is induced by him taking a power pill. When I signed on I figured that someday there'd be an anti-power drug dart in his future; that is perfectly in genre. Hasn't happened yet, but there's no reason it can't and it's fair game when it does. (I'd feel the same way in a Fantasy campaign with a magic-based Multiform; counterspells are again perfectly in genre.) When it does happen, I'll want to talk with him about rules, since the situation hasn't come up before. I assume Dispel on a Multiform that's bought with the disadvantage "Each form can be used a maximum of once in 24 hours" reverts him to base form immediately, but he can transform immediately back to any other form he hasn't used too recently. But I also assume a Suppress works on the entire transformation process, and prevents him from entering another form as long as the Suppress is in effect. I'm trying to keep the guy balanced and appropriate for the campaign, and I run everything past the co-GMs first. So far, he is far from being anywhere near the lead in the group's Munchkin Derby.
  3. Re: Multiform As someone who plays a Multiform character whose base form is Nothing Special (lots of noncombat stuff), though, I live in dread of the day the GM hits me with an adequately strong Dispel or Suppress.

  6. Re: The Last Word So if they're off sacking each other, perhaps the rest of us can get some quiet.

  8. Re: The Last Word A number of cancers don't respond to chemo. Even those that do can relapse.
  9. Re: The Last Word In rot13, that's "mravfqbz vf gehguvarff". Nope, doesn't make any sense that way, either.
  10. Re: The Last Word ... which requires no translation.
  11. Re: The Last Word Well, my comment changed it from nonsense to merely vulgar.

  13. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread 15th wedding anniversary last night. Had a nice dinner. Hoping for rather in excess of 15 more.
  14. Re: The Last Word I think they do, but I haven't noticed any of mine missing that could be easily explained by kittens. My wife, though, seems to have had some stuff go wandering. Now, she misplaces things MUCH more frequently than I do, for what that's worth. The things I've noticed the kittens carrying (or batting) off are things I would expect: small cloth things, shreds of feathers, balls and toys, etc.
  15. Re: The Last Word That, and it opened new regimes in which to sow chaos. (I think I got all my ties picked up and put back on the hanger....)

  17. Re: The cranky thread A friend (he's on these boards) is IT support for a hospital system here. I bought him a lapel button that says, "Better multitasking skills through massive caffeine consumption."
  18. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Fall Fecal Fest A drawing for the privilege of buying composted exotic manures. Is this a great country or what?
  19. Re: The Last Word The hammock thing only lasted about three weeks. Part of that was the diffusion effect: during that time we opened more doors and allowed them more of the house to spread out in, so they spent less time in the bathroom.
  20. Re: The Last Word That only lasted about three weeks, actually. Its major impact came from its unexpectedness.
  21. Re: The Last Word "Re-up" is military slang for re-enlist. So my comment means: we may get another litter of kittens to foster.
  22. Re: The Last Word Sounds like we're going to re-up on the foster kitten thing. Probably this week.
  23. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER The kitten's pretty vocal ordinarily, but did not make a sound while in the bath. The other half-dozen cats I've had to bathe in the last decade were quite loud while in the bath. In one case, woke up the entire household (it was about 1AM at the time). I think the kitten's being taken to her new owner (my sister-in-law) this evening.
  24. Re: Need Perjoratives! Imps, as a contraction of "impossible". Do the characters refer to themselves with any consistent label? Taking such a thing, shortening and mangling it, and then using it as a pejorative would work.
