Cancer got a reaction from tkdguy in The Academics Thread
The ASP has never been a conduit for jobs; astronomy jobs in the US are principally are listed via the American Astronomical Society (and I think nearly all of those are PhD-level jobs), aas.org.
I thought the ASP's HQ was in San Francisco, and I can see them listing jobs in their offices only locally. You might see if you can make a contact via "normal" job-seeker channels, provided my memory about their location is correct.

Another astronomy ed workshop from the Rubin Observatory people: link
(let me know if that link doesn't work right; another "upgrade" of Outlook means I have to eye-hand transcribe it from an email, because the old highlight-and-copy no longer works)

If you have massive amounts of leftovers in your fridge, you should probably prepare smaller meals.

Cancer reacted to BoloOfEarth in Things that should be in fortune cookies
Sooo... back when my wife and I were dating but I hadn't yet proposed (but was thinking about doing so), we ate out at a Chinese restaurant. Her cookie's fortune was "Make up your mind and do what you want," and she joked that it should have been my fortune (a not-so-subtle hint that she was ready for me to propose).
Unbeknownst to her, I pocketed that fortune. Then, when we were planning to go to another Chinese restaurant for her birthday a few months later, I wrote my proposal on the back of that fortune, bought a box of fortune cookies, and replaced the fortune in one of the cookies with that one, putting that fortune cookie into a sandwich bag in my pocket to pull a switcheroo after dinner. (helpful hint - don't do this several days in advance, or the cookie gets stale)
You can imagine my irritation when the waitress brought the fortune cookies, and they were both sealed in plastic as above (but thankfully without the fortune showing). Luckily, I was able to grab and unwrap both, then switch the cookie out and give her the right one.
My then-girlfriend opened it, read the fortune on the front of it, said the *EXACT SAME THING* she had said before, and went to set it down without even noticing my proposal on the back. I had to practically force her to flip the fortune over and read the proposal.

Well, seeing as how it's a BMW, I'm OK with this.

Cancer got a reaction from Old Man in Favourite Mediaeval Setting?
I've been working on a campaign in Asia and the Indian Ocean, starting about 780 AD, with an emphasis on maritime trade.
In medieval Europe ... I'd probably do North Germany (only because I've lived there), and I would again go for early-ish Middle ages. That's Charlemagne's era in nearby what is now called France, and includes the conquest of Saxony, but I would want to include land east of there out to Brandenburg or so, and maybe as far south as the Harz mountains, but that makes the area bigger than I'd want. The lower tech includes agriculture still on the two-field system, fewer kinds of hardware.

AI tool identifies hundreds of new possible psychedelic drugs
That link is to a Nature commentary. New drug discovery is a problem, so this might not actually be making the world worse. But "AI-discovered psychedelics" sure sounds like an idea for a Champions or Dark Champions adventure.
EDIT: The item reminds me the premise behind a number of things in @Drhoz's Edge City items in the "Quote from the gaming table" thread in the Champions forums, too.

I saw his live performance back in the 1980s. It was brilliant.

Fraknoi's materials are pretty solid for astronomy education stuff, but some of those items will be geared toward young audiences, and sci-fi from the early '60s now seems pretty archaic, I'll agree.

RIP Peter Schickele
‘PDQ Bach’ musical satirist has died
His musical comedy was remarkable in that the more you know about classical music, the funnier it is. I will miss him.

From the astronomy education mailing list I'm on. Haven't looked in that link, but the guy who sent this out is a significant name in the astro ed racket.

Certainly the right spirit, though for real accuracy I think the word "speculation" ought to be replaced with "making s--t up".
