Well, we have 2 theaters in the county, and I was talking about the better one**.  I have gone to theaters in some nearby towns in my youth, that were better.  But, 2 counties over, well it seems hardly worth taking almost more time driving to the theater than watching the movie itself.

**Actually the "other" one probably was the better one (or at least cleaner one, if you were willing to wait an extra week to see it) back in the 80s, but it got run down pretty bad starting in the 90s.  Too bad they used to in my childhood show an old Disney movie a few Saturdays a year for the kids at low prices (heck in Nov/Dec for a can to go to the food drive)  saw a lot of classics for the first time.  (well, thinking on it most of those Saturdays were in the summer and Nov/Dec for Christmas time)

On his third reboot. That should really temper expectations. Not even the MCU tie in boost will overcome that completely.

I have to say I'm really pleased with the idea of Michelle Pfeiffer as the Wasp. But I'll admit that I've had a bit of a crush on her for decades.

She was, hands down, the best thing in that horrid Dark Shadows abomination that Tim Burton threw up.

If Affleck is too disillusioned (or trapped in the bottom of a booze bottle) to continue in the role, just back a dump truck of money up to Christian Bale's door and pretend that it's been him all along.

I think that arguing about which one of two fictional characters would win a fight is the stupidest waste of time ever.

There. That oughta obliterate my geek cred. And cheese off more than a few forum members. My work here is done.

Yeah, on the one hand I salute them for trying to use Superman's death as an opportunity to change the tone of the DCEU. But OTOH, "Did you guys ever watch the show previous movies?"

Okay, I've got a couple of recommendations for the letter N, both by Roger Zelazny.

Nine Princes in Amber: The book that kicked off the whole Amber series (and its sequels and derivatives). It's the story of a complicated, often deeply flawed protagonist who, despite his otherworldly origins, is one of the most human characters in Fantasy. It was also my introduction to the Unreliable Narrator trope.

A Night in the Lonesome October: Apparently someone bet Zelazny $50 that he couldn't write a story that would have people cheering for Jack the Ripper as the hero. Boy, was that guy wrong. Quirky, macabre, and witty, and told from the point of view of a dog to boot. It was Zelazny's last book, and arguably one of his best.

No lantern, sadly.  One of the most powerful of the league.

I can't comprehend how they can describe the Superman of those last two films as "a beacon to the world" or that he "didn't just save people, he made them see the best parts of themselves."  That's what he was supposed to be, and would have been with better writing and directing, but that's not what we got in those films.

Which is why they were such a travesty.

You do realize that it was just a stupid question a reporter was asking to voice actresses, who said, "sure, that'd be great!"? So, it really stems from someone's desire to write a click bait headline. It's not an actual idea Disney has floated.

Exactly.  I get that the MCU crossovers' success appeals to the suits, but the one thing that is most responsible for that success is not crossover appeal, it's good writing.

In essence, the MCU films are just following the precedents from the comics. This is how the Marvel Comics universe evolved, when they first started having their various characters cross over into each other's titles. The Universal Studios' "Dark Universe" is also actually precedented, since the studio's classic monsters did co-star with each other back in the day. Likewise Godzilla, King Kong, and the Toho Studios stable of kaiju. It may seem a radical approach to people unfamiliar with it, but conceptually it's not ground-breaking.

Marvel Studios' success came from building their universe in a logical, cumulative way, drawing carefully from the deep well of ideas from the comics, reinterpreting and repackaging the characters and stories for a new medium and a new audience. That success has prompted a rash of imitators, who aren't necessarily willing to take the same care and time.

This became my inspiration for some of my Storn Cook illustrations. But I love the Type V demon, the Roper, the Shambling Mound, the Umber Hulk, the Owl Bear and the Purple Worm. Orcs, Kobolds, Goblins and Hobgoblins. And of course Dragons. a prized possession of mine.

I have seldom wanted to punch an actor as badly as I wanted to punch Gary Cole. Not sure what it was, but everything about his performance rubbed me the wrong way.

Only thing fictional I can think of off the top of my head is Another Fine Myth, the first book in Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures series. An absolute must-read for any fans of fantasy with a sense of humor.

There's also one of my favorite military history books called America's First Battles 1776-1965, edited by Charles Heller & William Stofft. An interesting analysis of the first battles America has fought in every war we've been in, from the Revolution through Vietnam. Tldr; we usually get our butts kicked in the first battle, dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes, then come back and kick ass later on.

I recall an old article by Stan Lee where he commented on fans who, whenever Marvel published a book that did not work out, accused them of "Letting down the fans", but whenever they published a hit, accused them of "Just grabbing the cash".

You can't have it both ways. "Fan service" is "customer service" is "giving the people what they want".

Yeah, it'd be silly for a bunch of fantasy characters to be brought together from different eras and dimensions, like they had magic or something!

Once Upon a Time has done pretty well bringing together Disney Princesses and other characters.
