It's a pay-it-forward sort of thing.  Shadowcat let me get a copy of each even when he believed they were the last ones.  I feel it is proper to help someone else get them if they have a problem I can help with.

waiting to hear how many are available, but the price will for 15.00 for one book, or 25.00 for both, not sure on shipping costs yet, I suggested USPS Flat Rate envelopes, which 2 books fit nicely in

I will not be dealing with them this time around though, William Andersen at Com-Star will handle these

BigJackBrass reacted to Lord Liaden in RIP Scott Bennie
While this thread has understandably focused on Scott Bennie's numerous contributions to the tabletop RPG hobby, he also wrote extensively for the computer gaming industry, such as being one of the earliest contributors to Fallout. Scott was also an avid supporter of the Champions Online MMORPG since its earliest days online, a frequent player and role-player, and a beloved contributor to the CO community, usually playing as his alter-ego from his long-term tabletop Champions campaigns, the Canadian superhero Thundrax. CO developers and player base have been brainstorming a permanent memorial to Scott/Thundrax in the game.

Scott's contributions to the CO forums included posting a number of engaging short stories set in the official Champions Universe, usually revolving around Thundrax. Since this thread has been dealing with reading his work, these stories provide an excellent window into Scott's humor, his points of view, and the kind of gaming environment he liked to promote. I gathered links to such of his stories as I could find. I don't think it's exhaustive, but it's a good overview, and IMHO a fun read. They're listed chronologically as they were posted, earliest to latest.

I was looking in the Hero store to see if there were any PDFs I wanted to buy, and saw the Traveler HERO 5th pdfs there for sale.  So I did a forum search and found this thread again.

One of my gaming/college friends has run a number of Traveller HERO campaigns over the years, and I'm glad to see that the work continues to live on.  My only complaint is that Shadowcat and I and Randy never got a penny out of the deal, but that's the fan author's life I guess. Our payment was being involved in something we enjoyed.

There was a point in time when I was writing the thing that I got feedback that (1) we were including material that licensing would not allow and (2) Comstar would prefer 2 smaller books (hence book 1 and book 2) instead of 1 big book.  So that's why big chunks of stuff went bye-bye for what became books 1 and 2. I haven't seen the single version contents, but I assume it was one such version before the change, or a version after I gave Comstar all my InDesign files.

I posted this sad news to the forums of Champions Online. Scott was a very active player in the MMORPG since its earliest days, having translated his alter-ego PC from his tabletop Champions campaigns, Thundrax.

He was, IMO, one of the best creators Hero Games ever employed in any edition. I knew him only online, but he always seemed supportive of hero players and other RPG writers alike. Many of us old timers missed his presence on the boards when his health issues came up. I don't think I've ever heard anyone who has met him in RL say a cross word about the man let alone those who knew him online alone. Given the nature of the internet; that's something.

He's left a rich legacy of colorful characters, amazing adventures and whole worlds.
And apparently a lot of people who respect the hell out of him as a person.

    Rest In Peace, Scott

This hits me hard. Empire of the petal throne was the second (after the three booklets of D&D) I ever purchased, and I really enjoyed it. I guess I will need to take some time to seperate the artist from the art this time.

This is a free pdf on drivethrurpg. The author basically reversed engineered the books from the ODD (Little Brown Books), D&D B/X, BECMI and AD&D 1st. Margins, table strokes, layout, etc along with what fonts were originally used as well as alternatives. Included is the PDF of his findings as well as InDesign files setting up Master Pages for the different layouts.

I bought the new PDF of martial styles! I like it! The one style’s background actually has given me an idea for a game scenario or campaign.

A new build of HSM is available which addresses the VPP bug reported here by @Tywyll and on the Discord server.  This particular bug only affected 5th edition characters and all the samples I have now load properly in the app.

I did miss the note on the EC costs unfortunately, I'll look at that one too.

The new build is numbered 2.0.1 and should already be available to you on the supported app stores.

I once ended a session by having the PCs find a letter that contained vital information.  They had spent the whole session looking for it, felt good they had found it, and one Player transcribed the letter as they were certain it had more clues than were obvious.

The next session they formed a plan to act on their new information & I had a NPC interject to remind them of an important thing they were overlooking (I didn't want to waste a session with them going down a blind alley).  They insisted that *wasn't* info that they had.  I insisted it was in the letter they had just worked so hard to get.  The players all looked at me in silence & the one who had transcribed that letter held up her notebook page & proved that info *wasn't* among the info they had gotten from the letter last session.

Knowing I had screwed up & left out a vital point, I (rather lamely) had the NPC declare there was "a hidden fold" in the letter that contained the information.

The Players all laughed for about 10 min at my weak save & from that point on if I ever tacked something on to an ongoing info dump someone would mention that "there must have been a fold".

This has been a running joke now for 25 years.  I married one of them.  The woman with the notebook was our Maid of Honor.  In the years since I've gotten christmas cards that say "Merry Christmas! and a >obvious fold in the card< "Happy New Year".  I texted my wife 4 things to pick up at the store a couple weeks ago, then remembered something else 10 min later & got a text back "was there a fold?"

I try to take it with good humor......

It’s a long time since I last played Savage Worlds but something I recall finding very useful for that system were the regularly released “one sheet” (i.e. two sides) adventures. Brief scenarios in different genres with a consistent visual style and a concise but usable format. Now, Hero stat blocks might be a bit bulky for a two page adventure, but they can be cut down to the essentials. I reckon that four pages including text, sketch map if needed, stats and an illustration or two would work.

They’re not epics, not campaigns or detailed investigations, just solid adventures you can set up and run easily and quickly. An evening’s entertainment when you haven’t had time to prep, or something to show to a new player. Get a small library of those together along with some pre-gen characters and I reckon it would make the game look a lot less overwhelming.

That is basically what I have in mind for a Golden Age campaign book, instead of full text adventures, a quick summary and maps, NPCs, the setting, etc.

I think a few campaign books like that for various kinds of types would be a nice addition: silver age, espionage, street level, Dark Champions, epic adventures, etc

Regarding a Patreon, as Norm said, it would depend on the content. There are an awful lot of Patreons now and only so much money. An Advanced Player's Guide III sounds vaguely interesting, but Martial World not at all.

Mythic Hero would cause me to sign up straight away.
