  1. 4a. Dispel vs HA All would need 'Only vs. Foci or 'cybernetic' Restrainable' since you can't teleport them out of their natural armor or remove their natural weapons.
  2. Mine don't exist for someone who takes 4d6 Unluck, or should I say someone else (Karma herself has 4d6 Unluck & 4d6 Luck (she's literally cursed to live in interesting times). You take the Disadvantage, you pay the price (although Karma never had something quite this priceless happen to her (snicker, snicker, bwhahaha)
  3. Re: Re: Re: Re: Updating Ethnic Superfriends That's what I meant. However, I still think any attempt to create 'ethnically based heroes' is walking a fine line. I just hope Winterhawk doesn't cross it.
  4. Or Accidental Change (for instance when in the presence of a transdimentional effect (Gates, Teleports, EDM, certin EBs)) into another version of himself in another universe (the imentiuonal energies transfer the 'versions' into each opthers realities.) You wouldn't even have to create differentr character sheets, just say (for instance(FI) 'whoops, 16, o.k. the charaters costume suddenly changes and he starts talking French until he realises what's happening and reverts to English with a Canadian accent' then just make up some other little titbits about the differences (until he switches again). Unlike DF it wouldn't happen all that often and might not get that irritating to the other characters. As for the 'Summon' you might want a limitation 'Only up to 4' or something so that if FI your team was made up of 4 other characters you couldn't summon any more than them until one of them 'went home'. So you could 'Summon' the team and if one of the players was away you could 'Summon' a replacement NPC to 'complete the 5' (instead of the tradition of using the absent players character as a doormat/cannon fodder to 'teach him to miss my game') but if everyone is already at the scene your power is 'out of commission' for a while. You might also want a few overall skill levels to represent the genewral omniscience that would come with being linked to infinte dimentions. Just a few ideas.
  5. Unfortunatly unless I can get GM permission (which is possible) the Ultimate MA (p 104) nixes this idea by saying thar Power advantages must be added to each manuver seperately. Thanks for the idea though I'll run it past him...
  6. Re: Re: Updating Ethnic Superfriends Maybe because the elements in the 'Book of 5 rings' were Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Void, which were possibly the 5 elements in Japan, as distict from the 5 mentioned before which were, I believe Chinese. Not all Asian countries use the same 'mystic traditions'. Of course this means if you want to be accurite the Samuri type will have to have the Japanese elements as 'forms'. Then again, as far as this type of 'sterotypical charaterisation' is concerned, "Asians is Asians".
  7. Basically I'm designing a charater who is an MA with the ability to go desolid vs non-living objects. IOW living objects (people, aliens, mice, still living wood) can interact with her and she can interact with them. So: Desolid (strikable by natural HTH attacks ofd living creatures (Fists, feet, claws, etc) However, naturally her own fists/feet can hit people whilst 'desolid' since she is just as solid to their faces as her face is the their fists. What is more they naturally ignore non-living armor type PD (traditional armor, PA, etc). Which means all MA manuevers have to be bought with 'Affects Solid' and AVLD (natural PD). This makes most MA manuvers about 60pts each which I feel is kind of steep considering that only PA's and other people who wear 'armor' are going to be any more effected by her than a normal MA and that she can only affect those people who can affect her at the same time. If anyone can find a way of buying this cheaper I'd be appreciative.
  8. Of course even more 'saintly' concepts could be villainous. Taken to it's logical extreme an Avatar of Liberty would be destroying prisons and freeing prisoners of the state and defending the rights of people to commit any act they wanted (Liberty=Freedom=The right to do whatever you like (one reason why Freedom is a demonic word in In Nomine) Justice, of course, can be villianous. Just look at the Punisher who thinks that he is an 'Avatar of Justice' but is more an 'Avatar of Self-Rightous Violence'. Charity, when taken to extremes is socialism, and might become a 'Robin Hood' like figure stealing from those with money to give it to the poor (and some people with money are not bad people). Peace. Just off the top of my head: What would you call someone who destroys (safely) all the WMDs stockpiled by the US for 'defensive purposes' before systematically destroying the countries military capabilities? Law & Order. Someone who attempts to remove people's free will to create a perfectly ordered society where, for instance, jay walking is a capital crime. Its always fun to try to go against the 'common belief' when creating Avatars. I have also created some weird Avatars in my time based on types of people: Blue shield: Avatar of Police Officers. Jock: Avatar of Athletic Prowess Ubernerd: Avatar of Intellectual Prowess. Misfit: Avatar of Misfits (Head of a group made-up of those who do not fit in due to their powers and abilities (kind of like the Morlocks in Marvel).
  9. Re: contacting V'han? Personally I think she'd invite them in for a little tete-a-tete to discuss the terms of their dimensions surrender to her empire, since their ability to contact her shows that they are the most intelligent members of their dimention and so will be respected enough to convince their home dimention to allow her benevolent rule with a minimum of bloodshed. And if they attack her when she suggests this, well they have just proved that their dimention despiritely needs her leadership since the most intelligent members of the race are little more than barbarians who resort to violence to solve their problems (she might also make sure that these particular barbarians were never born, as a lesson, but only if they rip her imperial gown. Lesson 1: Never directly oppose someone who can travel in time.)
  10. A variation on the Patron is the 'Slavemaster'. GM: You wake up. Around you you see people who could only be supervillians (from their costumes). Then you notice the corpse, it so familiar, you know you've seen him somewhere before. Suddenly you realise "Mind Master" one of the worlds worst Mentalist Villans, famous for using other people to commit his crimes...My God what has he made you do?" The story, the 'team' has been working together for weeks, and are now the most wanted Super Villian team in the country. They must work together to clear their names and make restitution for their crimes. Sort of a 'Thunderbolts' approach with the 'wanted criminals' turning into heroes. Another idea the 'He's too big for any one of us' approach. Create an Ubervillian to attack the City that is too powerful for any single member of the group. Have all the characters hear about his rampage and decide to try and stop him. Have them realise that they are going to have to work together if they are going to have any chance... Such tactics are a staple of comics teams. Its a variation on the 'you all happen to be in the same place' being instead the 'the crime is taking place here and if you want to stop it your going to have to go there too...and look the other heroes have had the same idea maybe you should all help out' The problem, of course, is that some charaters are not the type to 'Kick ass and then take each others names' being 'Wolverene clones' who think of themsel;ves as lone wolves. They are the oines who need to be roped in using their Disadvantages: "That PA guy must be loaded, or at least know someone who is, perhaps he would be willing to loan you some money to help pay for your DNPC's operation" "That Mentalist might be able to help you with your anger management issues (Enraged), it can't hurt to ask" "That teleporting MA is kinda cute (and what comics hero isn't), maybe you should get her number" "The last time your Hunted attacked you barely made it out alive, he's beginning to work out you weaknesses, perhaps hanging around with these guys will make him think twice, or at least give him more people to deal with..." "Only fellow supers can really understand the responsability that comes with these powers..." "That gadgeteer seems to specialise in creating illusions. With something to disguise my hideous form I could lead something approaching a normal life..."
  11. Classic : GM: The Brick (can't remember his name, he played big 'n'dumb very well) opens door revealing the Gigeresque aliens. You are all behind him in single file. He's blocking the doorway Blaster: DUCK. Brick: Where? All I see are rejects from the Alien movies. Blaster: No you idiot GET DOWN Brick: If you think it'll help (Player starts doing moves from Saturday Night Fever and singing 'Staying Alive') Other Party member: Just shoot THROUGH him.
  12. Rules of Role Playing: No 1: Never give the GM ideas!

Since no-ones been kind enough to add the newest band of mutants to copme through Xaviers School for Gifted Youngsters, I'll put them forward. I give you Generation X: Synch Skin Jubilee M (Monet St Croix) Penance Mondo Chamber Leech Artie Husk
  14. Re: Re: Closest I could get Oh come on, like that wouldn't end more fights peacefully than not. I know that most Supers wear costumes that show off their 'assets' but do you really think their going to keep fighting when their suddenly in the altogether? And in some cases it can be very useful (as Gypsymoth/Skien) showed agaisnt the Crimson Cowl (all of whose powers were in her clothing). And if you melted say, Batman's, clothing his utility belt would go too. Then there's the Secret Identity problem, a mask is a piece of clothing. Really I can see some very convenient ways of using the 'instant undress' power...
  15. Ultiman: I'm the best at what *you* do (and he was: VPP, only to copy opponents powers, only to a level one greater than the opponent). "You'd better hope I'm evil. Evil Gloats. Evil explains its plans at length. Evil [bANG, thump] Guess I'm not, huh?" Breakneck (Speedster Villian): "How much of a head start do you want? Not that it matters much" Agony (Pain Telempath): "Don't make me hurt you, Please, don't make me hurt you..." "Greater minds than yours have I faced, and greater minds have I defeated. Only once you learn to ignore the rules will you be able to play the game" KACE (PA Brick with less than perfect control of his STR): "Please don't do this! I know this dance...You hit me, I hit you, you break, no-bodies happy."
  16. Our GM is pretty harrasment proof. Why? Because he simply sets out the goal, the known obsticales and lets us run with it. He of course has a few surprises, but their never so fiendish that he's spent loads of thiome on them and starts ripping out his hair if we miss them. He even fill us in OOC on what they were if we miss them so that we can all thank God we did. "I had this nifty trap that would have picked up the fifth person to enter the room and slammed him against the wall with enough force to kill him, but only 3 of you went on the mission so it never went off" The guys so cool that he doesn't even flinch if we completely blow off a quest (and we sometimes do). How? by never creating any stats for the opposition until we take the mission (our planning sessions are always long enough that he can stat the opposition while we do it. One of the PC sayings is 'the longer we plan the harder it gets') The only time, I think, that he felt harrassed is when he said "We should really find out who won the"'Final Battle of Good Vs Evil Vs War Vs Chaos Vs Humanity's ability to choose their own Destiny " which happens periodically in every fantasy world and which is happening to the north at this very moment (our characters had decided to stay out of it being rabidly non-aligned) so each pick a side, pick up a dice and whoever gets the highest roll thier side won" And We said "Sod that, lets make new characters and Roleplay the thing out" (He can handle us springing 'personal CD missions' on him, entire campaigns are a little different.) Funnly enough he did not have an annurism and we actually played that mini capmaign (Chaos Won, thanks to my characters obsession with throwing the 'Holy' weapons of Good, Evil, and War into a volcano (it was Dragon Quest where Halflings can do this kind of thing and no-one thinks any worse of them.)
  17. QOTW (just this week): GM: "They don't throw you out, they just politely ask you to leave and wait..." Me (playing a polite 16 year old): well my character is a nice little poppet so I leave. GM: You Poppet out as it were" (looks as the shocked faces of the rest of the players) "I did not say that, I did not say that" Me: "No, I just leave it in and walk out the door" Note: It takes very little to put the group consciousness in the gutter. Still my all time favorate (the Gazzebo effect in action): GM: You get off the boat. The island is covered in mangroves. Mage: I fireball them before thay can attack me. GM: Mangroves, as in swamps with trees. Forget it, your back in you happy place. Note: There was no known monster in this world to anyone's knowledge (including the GMs) that had a name even vaguely like 'Mangrove'.
  18. Yes. Why even let on who is doing the threatening? The Riddler never signed his work, he just assumed that his genius would make it obvious. So why not just hack into the 'time square jumbotron' or whatever and have the treat written there That way "Find the bombs or everyone dies" has the triple effect of getting the heroes attention, causing mass panic (which is always a bonus) and telling every low life in the city that its open session on smash and grabs. So even if the heroes find all the bombs and catch a villian they can never be sure its the right one.
  19. How about "There is a dozen nukes in the city. One will go off every hour on the hour unless you find them. Signed Charles Baker" Then there's 13 (a Baker's Dozen) although that might be a little cerebral for some it's the kind of thing a "I'm the most intelligent person on the planet and I'm going to prove it by making you look like fools" type villian would do. Then he'd also like the idea of planting 'sleeper agent's' like those above whose trigger word is something banal and lowbrow (Duh, doh, like ya know, like whatever) because that way he'd kill all the sorts of people he really hates.
  20. There's also the fact that ECs and Multipowers come with their own inherant drawback in that when someone comes along with 'Supress Fire powers (Fire extingusiher)' they loose all their nifty powers at once. Kinda makes the point break more of a Limitation 'All powers in this framework effected equally' which someone without the 'point break' framework wouldn't get. So another way of looking at it apart from 'Points for tight concept' (which there's nothing wrong with) is 'points for the disadvantage of putting all your eggs in one basket' and making it easier for your enemies to find a way to neutralise you.
  21. Vote for the villians of the piece as the Trickster whittles down the best of the baddest for inclusion in his Elite Guard. Will CU's Thunderbird or SAS's Alice, Queen of Hearts be the first member of this line up? Only you can determine that. Vote early (but not often, 'cause like, that'd be cheating) at http://www.champions-vs-sas.com/
  22. Re: Re: Re: Great Quote Actually I believe it was "Why choose the lesser of two evils?" Then again I'm a pedant Personally I'm with Mae West "When faced with a decision between two evils I choose the one I haven't tried yet" Which in politics would be "Always vote against the incumbant and for a person whose not seeking re-election".
  23. In Nomine has a cool take on that idea. Only one type of angel cannot lie (Seraphim, Most Holy, Angels of Divine Truth) however when the Fall they become Balseraphs (Most Unholy, Demons of lies) who don't 'lie' they just change their entire perception of reality until what they are saying is their subjective truth. Their not lying, their telling the truth as they see it (and in essence become the greatest of liars, those who can lie to themselves). As for 'Angel powers' if you go with the 'biblical' description of some angels then to look upon their faces causes such rapture that people die. Ego Attack (Does Body) or BOECV Killing Attack with 'Victim must look at Angel'. If your really nasty: NND Does Body, BOECV (defence is Blindness or not looking at Angel). Of course such angels hid their visages behind their wings (They had 3 sets, one for flying, one for face covering, and one to cover their 'ankles' (which most biblical scholars now agree was a mistranslation by 'right thinking' people of 'privates') so making it 'Always on' might be appropriate.
  24. See 'Binary Man' in CU. Man this could lead to a new thread. Corporate Supers & their powers. Scary Thought of the Day: 1) Ronald McDonald as a Superbeing!!!
  25. Frank:"So my paladin took on the Demilich with one hit point remaining while everyone else ran away???" DM: "Its what we thought your character would do" Caption: Frank misses one game session. That kind of thing is just cruel. Yes they got a good laugh but it beggers belief that Plastique would have been stupid enough to let anyone close enough to tamper with his stuff. the Player might have missed a few Game sessiuons but that doesn't mean the character was sitting there in a catatonic state while his 'teammates' set him up.
