    I don't hate myself either.

I see no reason at my age to have to develop a whole new skill set-- a quick look through the HD sub forum suggests it's anything _but_ plug-and-play-- just to do something I can do in ten or fifteen minutes with a pencil, and enjoy myself the whole time I'm doing it.

I'm a heavy user of Hero Designer. I can of course do it by hand, but I value my time and also don't hate myself.

Hey! I liked Man from Atlantis.
It gave Patrick Duffy his big break before Dallas and the show might have done better in the ratings if it wasn’t up against Happy Days at its most popular.  NBC could have put a still picture of a kitten on during that time slot and gotten the same ratings.

If you want to talk about “so bad it’s good” TV of the time, does anybody remember Sword of Justice?
A show where the title had nothing to do with the show.  Dack Rambo (who the hell picks that as a stage name?)  was a rich guy who was framed for stealing his company’s money and sent to jail for three years. He spent the time learning from the criminals all the skills he’d need (lockpicking, con games, etc.) to become a crusader for justice who would help the ones who were being set up like he once was. His calling card was a three of spades. The three for his years in prison and the spade was supposed to be his sword.
Awful show. About as realistic as the Love Boat. But when it’s Friday night and you’re still too young for a drivers license....

The city details can be worked out, but perhaps it would be more appropriate to start with the city's main superteam? AIn't that why we're all here?

Ah...I remember Hepzibah Colorado.  The only thing which is important is that it got walled off by The Skull. Somehow more like these times than not.

    That right there--

and my almost lack of comic book knowledge-- is why my setting is completely fictional.  Campaign City has never, in forty years, even been pinned down to a state!

I can't not point that out, given the number of people during the failed earlier attempt at a beginning adventure (Hepzibah, Colorado) who kept insisting we had to have everything down to the damned census numbers because it was going to be _so important_ to the players....

Forty years.  A dozen plus completely different groups.  I don't know-- a hundred players?  More?

None of that crap was _ever_ important.  Never even came up.

All I knew about comics was Metropolis, Gotham, Central, Keystone--  and I knew none of them were real places or pinned down as to where they were.  I thought that was some important thing about comics, so I ran with it.  It was in my notes as "the city" and "the campaign city" while we tried for a year or two to come up with a name we liked.  Finally we just decided that we'd been calling it "the campaign city" so long that it would better to just add capital letters and let it ride.

One of the things about using real locations is the use of real world politics. I would vote to completely avoid using any real world politicians.

Well to be fair, that has nothing to do with the rules.  That is all fluff and is akin to the player that writes a 5000 page background soap opera for their new PC and then gets upset when you decline to read most of it or rewrite you campaign to take everything into account.

When I am creating it is paper, pencil and the physical book.  That is for all RPG's.
I really cannot play/run an RPG if it does not have a physical book.  Without it I cannot seem to engage in planning or creating adventures.

I will use software like Hero Designer later to help me manage things and be able to get a clean print (I also run games with physical materials).
I have tried to play remotely via chat and the whole virtual thing, but I cannot seem to engage.  Without being able to see the other players and their body language I have no way to adjust the scenes.

But for the creating process, characters, adventures or campaigns, I am pencil, paper and physical book.

I still do. What do think I did on a 6 hr car drive? 😁 or at work? 😁. There are times I like HD. Frankly I had like it better when it was on a laptop than on PC.

    You're not.

I use pencil and paper, to include a scratch paper for figuring and a paper rulebook.

I have no intention of changing.

I had to hit "other" because of the "includes notepad, calculator app, pdf of rules" section on "pencil and paper."

I use pencil, paper, and an open paper rulebook, period.  No computer, pdf, or any of that.

It's how we had to do it in the early days, and I find it quite relaxing to do it that way now.

Yes, I did the same thing. A VPP of random stuff that helps the character. At one point I had a lightning bolt hit one of her opponents. It was a little cloudy, but the WTF moment was priceless.

You can do the "ballet of fortune" like in one of the Superman movies, where Clark steps on a guy coming out of an open manhole etc.
Or naturally occurring Rube Goldberg stuff can take the sting out the power and make the players laugh:

"A young woman's bikini top snaps, a guy in a Tesla swerves off the road gawking, hits a fire hydrant, it sprays out and knocks the gun out of your hand as you're about to shoot Snafu."

    Agree or disagree?

It's why I think the shared creation of the campaign world (by wiki) will work. (See other thread in this forum.)

I build things in Champions sometimes JUST TO BUILD THEM. What would Heath Ledger Joker look like? What would Elsa from Frozen look like? I have no intention of ever putting them into a game.

Anyway, my son plays Minecraft, so now I do too. This mindset exists in Minecraft. You spend hours poring over specific Redstone code etc. just to get exactly what you want. My son has the Champions mindset, but he uses it in Minecraft.

So that's why I think Champions is the game of the future. It's got that Minecraft "I can make anything I want and I'll take three hours to do it and I'll ENJOY those three hours."

Like, D&D, that's more like Fortnite. You buy more books so you can do this specific thing, but you're basically trapped by what's available, and there's less emphasis on "making it yourself."

    Thoughts?
