pbemguy reacted to Lord Liaden in Movies and TV Shows That are Great
Depictions of women's sexuality nowadays tends to be so aggressive and in-your-face. We've forgotten the appeal of elegant, sophisticated, classy.

Get Smart (1965-1970). Brilliant satire of the super-spy genre, with Don Adams playing somewhere between James Bond and Jacques Clouseau; and Barbara Feldon as many a young man's fantasy girl. Fans always looked forward to the recurring practical gags: the multiple doors and 'phone-booth elevator in the credits, the shoe 'phone, the Cone of Silence, Agent 44 hiding inside some inanimate object. And absolutely everyone in the mid-Sixties was using the show's catch phrases:
"Sorry about that, Chief."
"Would you believe...?"
"Missed it by That. Much."
"And... loving it!"
"This is KAOS! We don't ____ here!"
IMO none of the movies based on that property, with or without Don Adams, recaptured that magic.

The movie Scanners from 1981. Yeah...there's some complaints that Stephen Lack underplays his role, but as he was supposed to be playing a character with zero social skills I'd say he's basically spot on. Most people remember this film for the exploding head and other jaw dropping effects, but it's really got a lot more to offer. It really is a "people with powers" story. These characters aren't superheroes and most of the time...their powers are a negative. Others try to use these "metas" in real world ways. Patrick McGoohan and Michael Ironside are also excellent in this. The presentation of these powers was also done in clever and inventive ways. This was Cronenberg's biggest hit at the time in the States and this is what got him the director's chair for The Fly(I still think this film is superior). This film also boasts a powerful score by pre LOTR fame Howard Shore. Can't say enough good things about it. A favorite of mine for sure.

I’m currently watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension.
‘cause it takes the darkness away for a little while.

Add TK to the list of ways to do it. TK only to toss the target... -1 1/2?

Well, then you're going into Wonderland and all bets are off.

Mostly in the game we use OOC when we are making a comment out of character, like:
OOC: This plotline reminds me of that episode of Moonlighting where they have a leprechaun as a client.
In the PBEM I also sometimes use AFK: "I'm going to be AFK (Away From Keyboard) for the next 24 hours"
I scrolled through a bunch of my game threads and those were the only two that jumped out at me. Of course we say things like NPC and GM--there are some Hero abbreviations to watch for (SPD, Rec, Disads, etc.)
Wait, I just spotted an IIRC (If I Remember Correctly) and IG (In Game, which means we're back to talking in game)

There are dozens, Sir.
I'm afraid most are outdated or flat-out intentionally-wrong humor pieces. (irl = in real life, by the way. OOC (capitalized) is "out of character," and is for making inquiries or smart remarks.
Best solution I have found is to hit Google when you're stumped: "define: X"
You get a few business, science, and government hits, but then you get the "tweet speak" most currently in use.

Hey all. I’m participating, but I haven’t written anything yet. I’ve been fighting a virus while also going through chemotherapy (last round—hooray!), while continuing to teach 5 classes online, so my energy hasn’t been the best. I should be able to get caught up this weekend and be a better team member.
Quick question: I don’t know all the roleplaying terminology for this sort of thing, stuff like [irl] when I’m writing. Anybody have a glossary of terms so I can figure out what’s “in game” and what’s “in real life,” and stuff like that?

Diamond Spear: How's things in my old stomping ground?
Brian: Looks like we're on a team!

First, thank you for pumping out all of this great content.
Second, your write-up of Brisco Country Jr. does not give him any levels at all with his weapons and he was doing crazy stuff like shooting down the barrel of an opponents gun.

Mind you, a lever gun is a modern weapon. Tons of quality lever guns are made and sold today, some among the most powerful guns commercially available. Mostly for hunting, or self/home defense, of course. Not the optimum combat rifle. But a quality lever action is, generally speaking, more dependable than the semi- or full-autos.

EQUIPMENT
Here is a first draft of equipment sent to me by Henry's player:
GM note: I told him that the flashlight is free, the flares are free, the scuba gear is free, the spade is free (the collapsible trenching tool), but that he has to pay for the wrist cam because it is 1981 and that it definitely qualifies as spy equipment. So he still has 19 points to spend!

Okay People. We need to make Hero GREAT AGAIN. I want each and every one of you to go out this week and get at least three new players for the game, especially with the younger generation.
And NO EXCUSES!
I mean if D&D 5.0 can do it (and that game sucks) then we can do it, so get to work!🤑

pbemguy got a reaction from Dr. MID-Nite in Shapeshifting plot...
A confession from the villain?
The materials/equipment used by the impersonator seized?
Or...
He doesn't clear his name, and has to start over with a new Hero ID?

By confession I mean arrogant confession: "I totally fooled you all, so ready to believe your paragon had fallen, so quickly duped." Or the Wonder Woman rope trick would work too.

I think the ring is a focus, yeah!
Also, the reason yellow is -2 is because SO MANY PEOPLE KNOW. That's why Batman paints Robin yellow and locks Hal in a room with him to demonstrate that the kid is going to be okay.
Also, everyone please give fdw3773 some love: Hit that button and give the man (or woman) some REP!!
