  1. Re: Alternative Uses for Heroic Action Points I considered that possibility and again relegate it to GM discretion. I'd be more likely to award it if the player's last character departed in a satisfying way rather than they just decided to make a new character. 1) The Time Chart reduction is somewhat interesting, but I intended for HAPs gained from being Stunned/Knocked Out to go hand in hand with the REC enhancement house rule. So in an indirect way, it would work. But otherwise, yes, I think that having 10-15 new HAPs would make it worth a PC's trouble if they wanted to wait out their KO. Now that you mention it though, I hadn't considered how to make it worth their while if they waited, saved the HAPs, and then don't get the chance to spend them that game. Would be kind of a cheat. Maybe 1/2 HAPs could be retained from session to session until a story is completed? Example: Bob rolls 2d6 (6e Standard) and gets 7 HAPs for the game. He only spends 3 of them in that game session, leaving 4. If the next game continued a story that left off from the last game, Bob would start said game with (4/2=2) +2 HAPs in addition to what he rolls for that game's 2d6. On the one hand, it could have an appropriate feel for when the final confrontation is reached if HAPs were saved, but OTOH, it could promote hoarding behavior. Hm... 2) I didn't consider Regeneration enhancement, but considering its nature in 6e (REC bumped up the Time Chart), you raise an interesting idea. I'm a little weary of it though, but it certainly could create a Wolverine/Lobo-style hyper-regenerative special effect. Have to think about that one though...
  2. Re: Alternative Uses for Heroic Action Points Here are some new HAP ideas I'm considering and I figured I'd share them with everyone: Comeback - A PC gains +1 HAP per Phase in combat spent Stunned or Knocked Out. For Our Friend - All PCs gain +1 HAP when a fellow PC dies. Go Down Swinging - A PC gains +1 HAP per point of Negative BODY (up to +10). New Hero Smell - A new PC gains +2d6 HAPs in their first game and +1d6 in their second game. A PC can raise their REC by +1 per 1 HAP; These boosts are only temporary, lasting for single recoveries each. A PC gains +1 HAP per instance of a Complication substantially hindering them. Thoughts?
  3. Re: STR Minimum: somewhat overcooked? Beat me to it.
  4. Re: Need help understanding Variable Advantage It means that you may use any combination of Power Advantages up to the designated value at any given time. One phase you may make it have Reduced END 0 END (+1/2), the next phase you may choose AOE: 1 Hex (+1/2), or another you may decide on Personal Immunity (+1/4), Trigger, (+1/4), and STUN Only (+0). As long as it all adds up and the GM approves, you're good to go.
  5. Re: Alternative Uses for Heroic Action Points You just gave me an idea, Darbor: the whole awards based on Critical Hits has me thinking now.
  6. As I ran a combination Cinematic Martial Arts/Vigilante Crimefighting/Pulp Crimebusting campaign, I happened upon a new use for Heroic Action Points: Players may exceed normal clip capacity at 1 HAP per extra shot in order to simulate cheesy action flicks that pay poor attention to details like actual clip capacity. It's worked well so far and it's beeen fun. That idea has inspired me to ask my fellow HEROphiles if they have alternative uses for Heroic Action Points that they wouldn't mind sharing.
  7. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone While a Sting/Taker match at Mania would be epic in and of itself, I can't see how it would work in such a short span of time. It's not a match that should be built up to and settled in a month and a half. No, I think it needs to be much like the '97 Sting/Hogan feud from WCW, which slowly built to a fever pitch over a year. Even then, I think Sting would have to win or else the whole build was meaningless but yet Sting doesn't need that rub. IMO, John Cena is the last money match opponent left for Taker. That said, I think we can all agree that anyone who beats Taker is going to be a heel afterwards at this point, so it may as well be someone who could run with it. If WWE ever actually considers turning Cena heel, well, there's their chance for a new "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan if I ever saw it. But if there's anyone on the current roster who I think could use the rub and take off with it, it's Wade Barrett, depending on how he's booked afterwards.
  8. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone You just gave me a really silly idea: a backwards episode of Raw, including backwards matches (start with finish, end with entrances). It'd be so mindblowingly stupid and silly that I'd have to give it a standing ovation.
  9. Re: What Happened to Independent? But you do bring up an interesting point - what if Independent was a UBO modifier? It'd be like how cerain modifers like Charges, Time Limit, or Damage Over Time can be Advantages or Limitations in different circumstances.
  10. Re: What Happened to Independent? Interesting points. I think I'll bring it into my Rifts campaign as a -1 1/2 limitation to account for the UBO element. It'll be a campaign by campaign basis.
  11. I never extensively used it in 5e, but I cannot help but wonder why it was excised for 6e in the first place. It strikes me as odd because I can't see why it necessarily should be. Anyone care to "dispuzzle" me?
  12. Re: Modern Villains that would translate well into Pulp Hero Lex Luthor could be a smarter but weaker evil counterpart to a Doc Savage-style hero. Brainiac could be almost exactly the same if powered down. OTOH, he could be exactly the same for a Lensman-styled space opera.

  14. Re: Classic Marvel Superheroes RPG I've been curious about MSH for quite some time, considering how it seems to be the heavyweight classic supers RPG right after Champions.
  15. Re: Experience Points...what are they good for? They represent any difference over the base cost of a character, which can be good to know for AIs, Bases, Computers, Followers, Duplication, Multiform, Summon, and Vehicle purposes.
  16. Re: The Scaling of Damage Reduct Also, 30 AP of Resistant Damage Reduction and 30 AP of Damage Negation are roughly equal against attacks up to at least 60 AP. Example: Blast 12d6 -> 12 BODY, 42 STUN (average) Vs. rDR 50% -> 6 BODY, 21 STUN Vs DN -6 -> 6 BODY, 21 STUN The point is that DR and DN are roughly equivalent at their current price structure (long story short: DN's better versus smaller attacks while DR's better versus larger attacks). Then there's the APG Damage Reduction, which grants 10% Resistant Damage Reduction (IIRC) increments for 10 points apiece.
  17. Re: The Scaling of Damage Reduct Don't forget that your math only figured in Resistant Damage Reduction costs, because that's about 50% more than basic Damage Reduction. It probably figures to the same general theory, but it shouldn't be ignored IMO. Furthermore, what about its effects upon AVAD vs BODY and/or STUN attacks, or Mental Damage Reduction?
  18. Re: How to understand the SuperHero Genre Shadowpact doesn't have a long history, I can say that much. Thor was recently rebooted (ish) for that matter. Doctor Strange and Doctor Fate though, yeah, kinda long history. I almost suggested The Spectre but he's kinda like the Silver Surfer of the DC Universe in my opinion - he's beyond the whole "superhero" thing.
  19. Re: How to understand the SuperHero Genre First, maybe the genre just isn't for you and that's just how it is. Second, you could approach superheroes by reading about mystical superheroes such as Doctor Strange, Doctor Fate, Thor, or the recent Shadowpact, since they bridge the two genres in certain ways.
  20. Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND -- What Do *You* Want To See? I don't know if there will be a 6e version of Villainy Amok, so I'll at least suggest that perhaps the "alien probe scenario" could somehow be featured as a sample adventure. &nbsp:
