  1. Re: WWE Snark-Free Zone Reportedly? Ha! Just listen to 'em rib him on and on during past Raws. It's Lame I tells ya. Too bad we can't have Stryker and Punk on the same commentary team - Punk as color commentary and Stryker as either a play-by-play or a "third man" like Mike Tenay was on WCW.
  2. Re: CHAMPIONS BEYOND -- What Do *You* Want To See? I second the ideas for sidebar blurbs on other species' opinions on humanity as well as a Darkseid/Thanos figure. It'd be nice to see racial templates for our old friends from Alien Wars and Terran Empire. A race like that of the Kryptonions/Daxamites/Veltremites could be neat. Maybe a pair of alien races in a near perpetual war like the Kree and the Skrull from Marvel or the Thanagarians and the Rann from DC. Since you'll delve into Star*Guard, what if they have an enemy counterpart in the vein of either the Sinestro Corps or the Manhunters in DC?
  3. Re: Game Time & Experience pts. My group and I play rotate games/GMs every three weeks. When I run, my players and I rate the game on a ten point scale (we're all honest) and I average the results at the third session. I sometimes halve the result for Heroic campaigns. It's worked nicely for me for the past couple of years.
  4. I guess this isn't a true "How to Build" thread, since I'm pretty sure I already know where to go with the idea, but better safe than sorry. Anyways, I haven't read Fantasy HERO 6e yet, but the other day I realized that Barrier could possibly be suited to simulating a shield better than a DCV/HA multipower thanks to other certain 6e rules that have been introduced since 5e. First, the DCV bonus provided by a shield simulated the amount of cover that it provided. Back in 5e and earlier, it was arguably difficult to simulate a power that created barriers on as small a scale as a handheld shield because Entangles must be generated, Force Walls have no BODY, and 5e used hexes instead of meters. That all changed with 6e, as the barrier aspect of Entangle was folded with Force Wall to make Barrier, and everything is measured in meters, which is easier to convert to alternate measurements, whether quantitative (half a meter) or systematic (metric versus imperial). So basically, Shields could be built as Non-Anchored Barriers that provide cover, which would account for the bonus DCV as OCV penalties to the opponent, as it would also account for Block bonuses for the same precise reason. Second, the HA slot simulated the fact that a shield is a potential weapon, but 6e's rules for random objects as weapons further facilitate the use of Barrier as a useful power as they provide PD and BODY, which could eliminate the need for an HA slot in a multipower. So all in all, I argue that Barrier could be used as an all-in-one power for Shields. That said, I'm very used to using Shields the other way. So what do my fellow HEROphiles think about this idea?
  5. Re: Quick reference sheets? That reminds me of how I was just looking up GURPS Combat Cards and thinking whether such an idea would be useful for HERO at all.
  6. Re: Idea: The Champions Multiverse Project. What about... "Omlevex" I believe it was called?
  7. Re: Haiku Hero I will join this thread. Seems like it should be good fun. How do haikus work?
  8. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... That could also make them awesome.
  9. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... If your setting has a team that the Justice League calls upon when outmatched, and your PCs are the team that team calls when outmatched.
  10. Re: Is our approach to ' Combat Levels' fundamentally flawed And when one considers STR minima and Hands in a Heroic campaign, those three, END-free DCs are proportionately more potent, especially since you can buy CSLs on top of them for OCV/DCV.
  11. Re: Not Quite Free Equipment You've done this before, haven't you Pres? Pretty neat.
  12. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... If the weakling can Summon Cthulhu as a food source.
  13. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... ...if the group suffers a TPK against a confused housecat.
  14. Re: AE Accurate War! Ugh ... what is it good for? (Absolutely nothing?) I'd like to take this time to clarify that AoE technically only affects DCV 3 when you target a space that a target occupies - you actually do have to hit a target's DCV if you directly attack them. That said, make an AoE large enough and it doesn't really matter. As for why Accurate is worth another +1/4, I'd imagine it has to do with game balance - an extra +1/4 eats up Active Points and Damage Classes in campaigns that place limits upon them. That value was +0 in 5e because the extra +1/4 would not make it a worthy expense.
  15. Does using either skill to resist a Throw count as an action for purposes of holding or aborting? I can't find 6E1 nor 6E2 specifying so, but as far as I can tell, they may fall under the last item of the left column chart of 6E2 23 if at all. So I guess I'm asking for a second opinion, and who better?
  16. Re: Is our approach to ' Combat Levels' fundamentally flawed I think this depends upon individual character versatility. BFG Man only needs 2pt CSLs to use Strike (presumably) with his BFG, or else add Damage Classes... if he's okay with 3 OCV. He doesn't particularly stand to benefit from buying more expensive CSLs just to be flexible - he probably would be better off buying DCV as a CHAR. Living Weapon Man, and his player for that matter, may be interested in Phase to Phase optimization. Let's say he never raised his OCV nor DCV and just bought +9 with All Attacks. He could attack for 12 OCV with any attack in any way in any given Phase, but he only has that 3 DCV until the end of such Phases. He could also attack for +6 DCs but with 3 OCV and 3 DCV. Not a very good long term idea IMO, but that player probably wouldn't go to such extremes on a common basis anyway. I can have +1 OCV or +1 DCV or +1/2 DC one at a time for 10 CP. OTOH, I could always have +1 OCV with all of my attacks and +1 DCV (but no DCs) for the same cost. In conclusion, I don't (yet) see how this is a problem. I think it comes down to character concept. BFG Man doesn't need to be flexible like Living Weapon Man may want to be, and Living Weapon Man may not want to go to extremes, but rather hit that sweet spot between stability and flexibility.
  17. Re: Is our approach to ' Combat Levels' fundamentally flawed Speaking of Heroic Campaigns, CSLs aren't affected by Characteristic Maxima.
  18. Re: Is our approach to ' Combat Levels' fundamentally flawed OCV, DCV, OMCV, and DMCV can be affected by Adjustment powers whereas CSL's generally can not. That's a double edged sword though. I think the truth lies in how versatile a character becomes with their CSL's, in which the cost catches up versus stability.
  19. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Dunno - I found it in its entirety on YouTube. Here's Part One:
  20. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? El Santo Contra Las Mujeres Vampiro - I enjoyed it. Not bad for a first dip in the Luchador movie pool.
  21. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... If the comic relief were played by Arnold Schwarzenegger
  22. Re: END Reserves in 6e - why bother? Well it has been a while, hasn't it? Anyways, to me, the fact that an Endurance Reserve is unaffected by KO seems to be treated as a +1/4 Power Advantage for END, which fits the 1:4 cost. END Reserve REC appears to treat "Impersonal Recovery" as a +1 Advantage as the HERO System often places Advantages at double the absolute value of Limitations (Variable Advantage and Variable Limitation being the most readily referred examples). I'd argue that the fact that Reserve REC doesn't affect STUN does have a value of -1, but END Reserve REC is also unaffected by STUN deficits, which may be like another +1/2 "advantage." So the equation may be something like 1 + 1/2 -1 = +1/2 for a composite value, ergo 1 x (1 + 1/2) = 1.5 points per 1 REC for END Reserve.
  23. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... ...if the you pitted them against believable writeups of themselves as RPG characters... and they lost.
