  1. No the scarlet pimpernel was a wanna-be, give me Baron Munchousen!!!!! (or perhaps Baron Munchkin??)
  2. Hmm I know the Movie Shadow did do some lobotomizing....... and Sure, converting the "evil" people into "good" people is that not what the whole Justice system/prison reform is about? He just did it "Doc's way" more humane in many ways to be sure......
  3. That sounds suspiciously like what happens to me in EarthDawn.......
  4. Okies Maybe some of you guys are old enough for this one: the Tommorow People. Psionicists who are realistically kids/teens trying to prepare the human race to join the psionicists in outer space.... 70's britshow on Nickelodeon.... Cooler than _anything_ listed yet. IMNSHO
  5. Generally to avoid the whole 0 magic spellcasting mage, Blood mages, negative essence, and other icky icky icky SR problems (let's just start off with continuing game balance, Gm only monsters, etc....) the best thing to do is to throw in "minor" limitations on each piece of cyberware, -1-5 on the magical skill roll per piece. After all only the people trying to double dip would need both...... and cybrware is built for people not mages. The exception to this, is of course, people who actually pay points for everything the the point totals are the limit. and Rotwang, good job, that is about half of my SR->4th edition conversion notes. SR is not a difficult conversion to hero, you even typically have enough dice!!!!!
  6. Writeup or pictures? j/k
  7. hmmm mostly i would be going with 75+75 and few limits. i have huge lists of "suggestions" for Packages from a racial, social and organizational level mostly to help players get in the mood. just to give people an idea of what would be happening.
  8. Hey Clash of the Titans has many things going for it including a stellar cast, decent (for hollywood)following of the storylines etc.... however give up on movies, the books are all better.
  9. Well..... erm..... I Apologise for being a tad bit too acidic in my remarks. And to answer an unspoken assumption I think that yes SH could have been 'better", _but_ Old Man's suggstion might do well for an independant PDF, Digital hero article, or addendum to the simplifying HERO rules. Not as something that would have neccesitated pulling out three or four races, a series of psionics examples and a half dozen other things in order to suggest a very limited version of some 4th ed campaign design rules.... besides anyone who puts "Insolent Fool!" as their iconic statement -should- expect some amount of insolence!!!!!
  10. I think the rael question is what ones will you find really. most have such a differing theory that basically recognising them will be a feat in and of itself.
  11. a week later he recovers................ At least Im not doing Tin Shots!!!!!!!! Hmmm IIRC the jello required a save to survive being strangled by the jello Cubes, so What I would do would be to have a 1-4d6 NND Does body, continuous, 1 recoverable charge, Side effects (dies if opponent makes his save..........)
  12. Make up a decent story about _why_ the coin is named as such, and go with that, the example below is one of the seven stoire I have about the coins of the world for my fantasy campaign, also don't forget the chart too.....(since I dont use the 1to 10 ratio since that was developed during the American post colonial period IIRC) The Arbelest Shael first began life as a comissioned piece from the Kingdom of Arbelest in honor of the 50th anniversarry of the wedding of the Paen and Arbelest Kingdoms. Eventually the popularity of this royally wed couple proved that at least a sign of their love would one day outlive all but their own legends. A half dozen unclipped Shaels is regarded as being worth a Sundollar, typically, though most are clipped and so are only considered 1/10th the value of a Sundollar. The Shael bears the name and image of the ship belonging to the Arbelst Princess who became queen of Arbelest through the marriage of herself to the Paen prince. The reverse is marked with the rock the prince sat awaiting upon his princess, as well as being a place where he sought solitude and to finally come to love the sea as much as his homeland. The edge of the coin is marked with seascrolling around the edge, however since this easily fades the coins are more easily clipped than any others of higher value.
  13. Old Man that post was the most worthles pile of drivel I have yet to see come out in your posts in quite a while IMNSHO. First off, for the vast majority of Hero you would need a good 20(A-R) pieces to accurately describe just things like psionics. in your ABC example none of those had any of the powers levels i would need to describe most of the campaings I have been in. so fer instance your shorthand example would require a minimum of 21 more paragraphs added to the book(just an incomplete listing of 3 per suggestion). And is not part of the advantage Hero has is that we _don't_ do things like provide lists of SFX's? after all what is the difference between a Fire Ball, an Ice Shard and a Lighting Bolt? Not much except sfx. im free to do whatever I want with my SFX's, sure I should make them all feel different, but many problems came about with games like Shadowrun _because_ rather than admitting that Biotech, Cyberware, and Magic are all different SFX's for the _exact same krap_ they made them not only feel differently but behaved sligthly differently and game balance suffered because munchkins would cherry pick their abilites and run roughshod over everything else.
  14. Actually the options are for you to rewrite parts of the $45 book you intially invested in. FREd. i suppose Steve _could_ have provided a USPD version for campaigns, and may do so in the future. However I can think of several campaign options that would allow Teleport, and deny the classic "mind blast", Mental illusions, etc. Realistically, All campaigns need the old 4th edition guidesheets with the Gms doing the fill in the blanks. Basically Old man, as you well know, Hero's greatest Strength and weakness is no "out of box".
  15. Ahhh my bad, after all if it wasn't for bad press D&D ever had the game would not be a success that it was...... Go Go christain idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. How imparing depends upon how often there are wet people around you IMNSHO. It would take alot of the fun out of "10" though. Just us an RKA with SFX of melting.
  17. Re: Robin of Sherwood Actually I thought the "Druid Mentor" was the ancient god himslef walking the world and guiding his servant. and did not Wizards and Warriors have Tom Hanks as the mentally unstable person in the group?
  18. Ahhhh, Explains why you feel the way you do about this presidency.....
  19. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! to be Old Man! His judgement is Swift!!!!! His judgement is Final. His judgement is.............. Terrible? Realisitically IMNSHO his(old man's) Opinion expressed on these boards is over the non-balance of weapons. heck Old Man, Steve _Even_ provides options for rebalancing the weapons list......
  20. Having been to busy to post this note eariler, I _like_ the idea of an advantage that enables you to adjust NCM. Okies if we accept that this is what they were trying to do with NCM in 4th edition(applying an advantage) then the real problem is that they were charging too high a price for the changes. Originally (if you view it this way) the price was a +1 advantage. This became a real sore point so let's try adjusting the value of the advantage...... unfortunately i'm not too mathmatically inclined to do the math at a dozen breakpoints but let us try the advantage at +1/2 and +1/4 (keeping in mind that a Gm can choose to adjust the values for his campaign.) for one point stats (Int, Str) it wont affect caluclations on cost untill 3 points for +1/4. it starts affecting cost at 2 points for +1/2. now then for a really huge affect ill ake the biggest nubers thrown at the screen +40 STR. at a +1/4 that means you will be paying 50 points for 40 Str, and 60 points for 40 Str with a +1/2. rather than 40 for no NCM and 70 for with NCM essnetially it goes no =40 +1/4=50 +1/2=60 w = 70 for such large numbers it looks decently grainy and with a +3/4 or higher it equalls or exceeds the results of with an unmodified NCM. there probably _are- holes somewhere with this like any other Adv, but hey so is every thing else
  21. Being one of those Bleaters... Yeah I agree there should be a penalty for wearing armor, how much is the question. I laugh in the face of people who insist that you would automatically drown in chainmail. What do you think a "shark proof" suit is made out of? Nagahide? I dont have a problem with _a_ line, the main problem like with every thing else in any system not based totally upon realism is _where_ the line is to be drawn.
  22. Just to let you know, _Don't_ get caught up in the "must have every splatbook" thinking that predominates AD&D. Sure the accessory books are all cool, brilliant, well written, chock full of crunchy goodness, with excellent artwork and what not, but all you ever need is 5th Ed. you can build every monster, character, power, vehicle, and skill set with that FRED book, all you need is your own imagination.
  23. Also a great deal of challenge can be made by having smart NPC's ho play to their strengths.... nearly got trashed by 18, 50 point npc's with a 30 point mage.... an I was a 200 point character by then with 4+,160 point PC's. pretty disgusting when they chomp us......
  24. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I went through the old boards and found the thread that started this mess and lo and behold I tried to access the other pages (Dadelus had about five pages with others contributing another two). did the others pages not get saved or what? I see the links but they dont do anything. HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!! I really want the writeups i had for Golind's Axe and Armor as well as Dysons mask.......... I aint got them anymore (on a defunct hard drive.)
  25. Ha Your magic is too weak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the whole thing has to do with the medium. the Movies are a visual medium, therefor what better way to show magic than with "not being able to see it". I supose from the long line of movies with "magical" elements (ranging from the Topper ghost movies of the 50's, or was it 30s? ehh...) have directly shown us what is capable with movie magic. Sadly the people think that magic must be invisible since technology is visible.............
