  1. Re: Cost for Dis Ads. The costs here are from the Master Lists. Phys. lim.: Infrequent, Slightly: 5 Points Phys. lim.: Infrequent, Slightly: 5 Points Psych. Lim.: Common, Moderate: 10 Common, Strong: 15 Common, Total: 20 This sounds more like a Quirk from GURPS. I'd give you 1 point for it 'cause it's too situational. Not mentioned in the Master Lists, but sounds like a Very Common, Moderate Psych Lim, worth 15 pts. Similar limitations would be Quick to fall in love (Very Common, Strong, 15pts.) and Seeks True Love (Common Strong, 15pts Go to The Master Lists. That should help you quite a bit. You're welcome.
  2. By 'Force Field', do you mean the type found in the movie Star Trek: Generations? If so, I'd suggest buying a Force Wall with the advantage Personal Immunity to simulate the 'magic frequency' where attacks can go through unimpeded. Of course, you could have a problem if your opponents discover your 'magic frequency', but to use their newfound knowledge against you, their shields have to be down, so if you ship can take a licking, you might still win. If you're talking about a 'Force Field' that goes down for the nanoseconds necessary for an energy bolt to go through, you might want to buy a Force Field with the limitation Requires an (computer) OCV vs. (attacker's) OCV Roll (-½) to simulate the 'blocking' of incoming attacks (and if you want to add outgoing attacks then you can add the limitation Force Field blocks outgoing attacks as well (-½)). Of course since you're essentially rolling a 'block', you'll probably want to use the points you saved to buy a computer with CSLs with your Force Field, although this can get expensive (it'll need a DEX as high as the highest DEX shooter on your side and at least twice as many levels as you have weapons if you used the 'blocks outgoing attacks' limitation). Do these ideas help any?
  3. I once created a V&V character named 'Abacus'...
  4. Actually, Kent has super powers without the helmet: Flight, Telekinesis, great strength (he once threw a man through a boat), Intangebility (this ability was later dropped in favor of his becoming bulletproof) and not a little sorcery himself (in his retconned origin, Kent had destroy Nabu's body (with an elderich blast) in order to get the Helmet of Nabu). What the Helmet of Nabu brings to the table is greater magical power and the knowledge of Nabu, a Lord of Order who, like Galactus has seen the Death and rebirth of the universe. Many times over. Dr Fate has fought Universe-beaters (the Lords of Chaos) and technically is only half as powerful as he should be (seems that Kent alone is only part of the equasion. to achieve full power, he must also merge with his wife, Inza). At full power, nobody is a match for him. Fate kicked the butts of a lord of Chaos and a fellow Lord of Order in seconds. He'd go through Dr. Strange, Dormammu, Umar, Mephisto, Satannish, and pretty much any other Marvel mage like corn thru a goose. I'd even give just plain Kent Nelson good odds against Strange (from the few stories I've seen involving Strange, I've noticed that his powers require Gestures. Telekinese those hands together and the good Doctor is in for a world of hurt).
  5. Re: Re: Don't Make Me Laugh! And if it's made of wood or plastic (both organic materials), he's screwed. Look at it this way; the coral you've summoned isn't magic, isn't an amorphous concept that can break the rules of reality,. It's a (bunch of) colonies of small, living, (water-) breathing sea creatures that have all grafted onto you. Why should they leave simply because you're feeling inconvienced? You ever hear of Zip-ties? Curses! Screwed again! Seriously, Why would the Transform affect inorganic material and not affect organic stuff. I would think (and I was under the impression) that it was the other way around. After all, I could easily see bacteria degrading wood and plastic, but steel? Where did that come from?
  6. Don't Make Me Laugh! Hate to tell you this FiregOlem, but I could beat this loser with Black Diamond -- from Fouth Edition. Let's say a character with this sort of power (let's call him Coral King) is a villian who needs some fast cash, so he spends 2 hours collecting 3000 BODY worth of coral for protection (Let's give him SPD 5 as well). He floats over to the First Union National Bank, says he's here for the money, laughs at the security guards as they plick of a piddling 4 BODY each with their revolvers before zapping a few of them and telling the tellers to fill up his floating bags. Unfortunately for him, Black Daimond is also in need of the folding green and has decided to make an unscheduled withdrawal from the FUN Bank as well. Needless to say, the first thing she does when it becomes apparent that CK is going for the green as well is roll on the floor laughing her @$$ off. "You, a supervillian?" she gasps out. "And here I thought you were Brick's ugly brother... BWAAAAHHH-Hahahahaha." Infuriated, CK attacks BD with his biokinetic blast. BD, feeling that, says it's time to show this loser just why he's not ready for Prime Time (much less GRAB). Unfortunately her punches can't hurt him. "Hahaha," CK laughs, "You cannot hurt me! while I am protected by my loyal coral, I am invulnerable!" Then he zaps her again. BD staggers back from this second attack until she bumps into the 'island' that's you can use to fill out your deposit slips. Grabbing the 'island', BD smashes CK upside the head with it. And this is where CK's first problem crops up. The 'island' now pins him to the floor, and it's too heavy to lift using his Biokinetic flight. And he can't move his arms to push it aside (He's entangled, remember?). "Unnh," CK groans. "I've fallen, and I can't get up!" "You can't move?" BD asks. "Really? Then that means... I win!!" BD begins doing victory dance. Meanwhile, CK tries to get out by removing his coral oversuit, only to discover his second problem. The GM, having poured over the Dispel power has come to the conclusion that Dispel only affects the power, not the effect! This is also known as the disappearing hammer concept, where if I hit you upside the head with a hammer that disappears, you've still have been hit by a hammer, and your skull's still been cracked. The good news is that his coral 'armor' won't be regenerating itself anymore. The bad news is that he's under a 3000 BODY shell that he can't get rid of. Meanwhile, BD has finished her victory dance and decided to take the money (which is in those bags that the tellers filled up earlier) and run. BD thanks CK for getting 'her' money ready for her and splits. As for Coral King, if he's lucky, he can get away after the cops lift the 'island' off of him (more than likely, a couple of cops'll jump him at the same time and handcuff him to themselves, thus preventing him from floating away. Sorry CK. And this is with a 215pt. character with a 60 STR. Foxbat could take him down. Any Egotist would have his number. He's just plain screwed. Nice try though.
  7. Battlestaff, I believe you're thinking about Demonfire from Enemies III. JimOz, Have you looked at Inherent on pg 165 of the FReD? It says that at the GM's option, a character can turn off an inherent power by paying END. It would make the power cost more (it's an advantage), but you could buy Always On to make it cheaper.
  8. Making Amethyst blind was just plain wrong.
  9. The Image isn't intended to work with their Psych lims. It's intended to work with the special effects of their power(s). Let me try to explain my spell from a SFX view: D-Man's werewolves become tougher while under a full moon. Why? What is it about the full moon that grants werewolves their enhanced toughness (in comparion to other phases of the Moon)? The only answer I could think of is the amount of moonlight shining down on Earth. Now, I'm gonna assume the sorceror(s) already know just what it is about moonlight that affects the werewolves so, and would be able to simulate it. This is why I suggested Images, to duplicate the enhancing effects of Moonlight ('sides you can't use CE to duplicate light effects anymore). Since D-Man also wanted it to look like the phase of the moon had changed (thus not only affecting all werewolves on the night side of the planet, but acting as a demoralizing agent to the vampires as well), I chose the Image to be that of a full Moon. By creating the Image of a Full Moon, the (moon)light from that image would shine down on the 'night-side' (it should be noted that I deliberately left out the requirement that the real moon actually be present, this way, you could have the 'moon' shine down in the day or on a night when the Moon is on the 'day-side' of the planet), supercharging all the werewolves that the (moon)light could shine upon. Another way of doing this would be to increase the amount of sunlight reflecting off the Moon's surface. For this I would use Images, only to create light, targeted at the Moon, essentailly doing the same thing as my earlier construct. Actually, I'd use Darkness with the proper limitations to filter out the Radiation that I wouldn't want to reach Superman. If I wanted a certain type of radiation to reach him, I'd use Images. YMMV.
  10. What about Images - Now on the right Thread Why not use Images if you think CE is too munchkin? For 85 active points, you can make an image of the full moon to superimpose over the real moon. For instance: By the Light of the Silvery Moon: Images covering 2,097,152 hexes, Range= 160,015,625"; Only to generate image of Full Moon, -1, Extra Time (1 Turn, -1¼), Gestures, Incantations, Requires a Magic Skill Roll, -½, 1 continuing Charge that lasts until Sunrise, +¼, 85AP, 20 RP This spell will create the image of a Full Moon some 320,000km away that's slightly bigger than the real Moon. It takes 1 full turn to cast and with a -8 to your Magic Roll you might want to have a few followers to cast this spell with you (and use their rolls as complentary skill rolls)
  11. DOH! I screwed up. I meant to post this to another thread. Please ignore this. Please...

  13. Go to See You Space Cowboy. Susano's written up a fairly comprehensive minibook concerning Cowboy Bebop. The page referred to above covers the worlds and culture of the CB universe. There are also pages for the main characters (including Viscious). The only thing it lacks is atats for the spaceships, but Susano give you enough infotmation to allow you to build them youself.
  14. Pre-CRISIS, little Kal-El was able to learn the basics of Kluxor before he was rocket-mailed to the Kents. It actually came in handy in an issue of The New Adventures of Superboy . Lois Lane knows Kluxor as well, but I don't know if she learned it from Clark, or if she learned it during a time-travel story. Recently, it's been revealed that Clark knows some sort of Kryptonian martial art. Given the philosopical bent that was placed on it, I'd assume that it was the Kryptonian version of Tao Chi. He was teacing it to Lois a couple years back in Adventures of Superman.
  15. Another Psych Lim she should have is 'Claustrophobia'. She nearly had a heart attack when Luminus formed that Box around her. It also explains why she was in such dire straits during her dream sequence (don't forget, she escaped Dr. Destiny's first dream-trap, though Destiny was able to keep her in a dream state until he could find a trap that worked).
  16. Justice League also comes on at 10:00pm eastern Saturday night & 1:00am Eastern Sunday morning for an hour, so you can see the whole story. 'Only a Dream' premiered on the 11th. Also, Justice League just started showing at 5:30 Eastern on Cartoon Network Mon-Thur. 'Only a Dream' pt. 1 will show today and pt 2 will show tomorrow.
  17. Wrong System Actually X, that's a set of conversions for the DC HEROES Game (which used the Mayfair Exponential Game System), not DC Universe, which was put out by West End Games. I don't know if anyone created a set of conversions for the DCU game, though.
  18. Mr. Walking Wounded? Nah, but if you took that bird mask off and dyed his hair blond, he'd be a good stunt double for Seeker.
  19. Re: Not Overpriced Not really, because you lose the action/reaction, so you can't pick yourself up. So is STR. If I wanna pick you up and hold you for as long as I can with my bare hands, I can (at least until I either run out of END or you power out of my grip). Why shouldn't I enjoy that with TK as well? We have to compare normal STR to TK STR. they both do the same things: picking stuff up and decking somebody. Stepping around the 'STR is underpriced' arguement (I have no desire for it to take over this thread), STR and TK are both pretty balanced with one another, as we can see if we compare their game mechanics: STR | TK lift | lift DC | DC Figured Chars | NO Figured Chars no Range | Range action/reaction | no action/reaction not indirect | indirect ...yet TK costs 1½ times as much as STR. Heck. come to think of it, even if we didn't compare it to STR, TK still comes off as overpriced.
  20. Well, you have to expect that sort of thing from DiC: I mean, I was completly boggled as to why the show was called Knights of the Zodiac instead of Saint Seiya until I found out that DiC is producing the show in America. Can't have Saints fighting for a pagan goddess, now can we?
  21. Sounds almost like 'Justice' from Marvel's New Universe in drag.
  22. Re: ATTN: All you anime fans/HERO gamers out there So let me get this straight: Cartoon Network is gonna be showing us the English dub of a Spanish dub of a Japaneese show? Heaven help us.
  23. NGE? Dear Gawd! How were they able to make enough sense of the deconstructionist's nightnmare that is NGE to make a satire of it. What's weird is that the character designs make sense now...
  24. Ewen Cluney's Magical World Sourcebook I suggest going to the Magical World website. The site is a sourcebook about Magical Girls for the author's homebrew (and free) RPG, THRASH, although there's a translation into BESM as well (no HERO translations, though.Darn). While you might or might not care for the setting itself (Everybody's gunning after Magical Girls, including other Magical Girls) you get plenty of insight into the Magical Girl Genre; specialized (and varient) types of magical girls, where they might get their powers from, archetypes, genre conventions, and more. Even if you don't use either system, you'll be able to create an interesting Magical Girl. And you certainly can't argue with the price (free). You'll also want to pick up the Magical World THRASH Rules Module, which lists the various attribures, powers, and weaknesses that a Magical Girl might have. While everything is written in THRASH terms, they're explained well enough that you can convert tham into HERO equivalents easily.
  25. Ah, V&V. The RPG where you were encouraged to play... you with Superpowers. My first V&V 'Me' character was Reflex, a normal college student who volunteered to be an experemental guinea pig, and as a result, found himself not only well built (a vast improvement from his flabby physique) but with Gravity Powers as well (Control over weight. What more could a fat kid ask for? ).
