  1. I started this thread on the differing enchantment mechanics. This is hero. there is more than one way to skin a cat. http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/93375-5th-ed-what-is-your-enchantment-mechanic/ This is my current favorite as I discussed it. http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/93375-5th-ed-what-is-your-enchantment-mechanic/?p=2527673 It is now known as alternate enchantment rules, at least in 5th edition. I'm told it is in 6th as well. I refer to by its original name , the Create effect which what it was known as 1st-4th edition
  2. Which book? I'm told 6th got rid of Independent. There are few other ways to do it as well. I lean towards the create effect that normally doesn't require points for the item, only for the Create spell.
  3. A lot depends on setting and its power level. I used to play RQ3 and ran a dual initiate Orlanth /Trickster. One party members thought I was silly for going trickster and didn't understand why I didn't pick a thief god. Thief gods were minor gods tied one city. Each major city(rare in Glorantha) had their own thief god. Logistically that was impossible for a rogue in a wandering party. Trickster was just about anywhere there was an Orlanth(Major God) Temple. Trickster had many aspects, Thief, Murderer, Liar, Shapeshifter, and more. Plus Trickster has the Illusion rune. So I had choice of going one very limited thief god that wasn't easy to get to. Or a god that was thief/assassin, a shapeshifter and user of illusions. Which would you choose. It all depends on your world. In polytheistic worlds all clerics are not the same no matter what D&D says. Some worlds wizards can heal! If healing herbal potions from hedge wizards are common do you need a cleric? If there is no undead do you need a cleric? What if not all clerics can turn undead? Only Humakt worshippers can in Glorantha as he is the God of True Death. A lot depends on your world. If your magic system is based on true names it may hard to use magic against non-mages. The Tropes of Sword & Sorcery are different than High Fantasy or Epic. What kind of world were you thinking of OP?
  4. No It was an artifact of AD&D that probable was corrected in later editions. The game originally had a dearth of natural creatures that were suitable for low level characters(1st & 2nd) to fight that fit outdoor encounters. At first there were not much for outdoor encounters. As Monster compendiums were added that changed but wild animals strangely enough were kind of tough. I think that got fixed later on. But as beginning characters we noticed that all the low level threats were found in the dungeon .
  5. It was always weird how in D&D nothing happened to you on the way to the dungeon until you started hitting 3rd or 4rth level. Now RQ that was different matter! Beginners did get attacked on the way.
  6. Since everyone but me has a device that is web able now I might put a site with my house rules on the LAN. Drupal would be great for that.
  7. As most people who follow my posts know I'm 5th edition player and was hesitant to post this here. However as this does affect 6th as well, I was asked to post this question here. How does active point penalties to skill rolls work when you require two skill rolls on a power. I can see situations where applying to both may called for and I can see where it should only be applied to the primary power roll. So how do you see this Steve? Extra point question: How does the active point penalty work when the skill roll is a luck roll?
  8. Shouldn't the GM have a campaign setting sheet done up? And should that have the pertinent rules?
  9. one possibility. I see it being a few ways but only one or two I like. Just build an item and define SFX as bound spirit, often done but boring Enchanted item that summons creature, Little better but you still don't get the right feel Force the daemon to use its power to inhabit the item, Has possibilities Entangle as you said might work but you have mobility issues unless target is small Transform: This could get tricky since you are dealing the daemon and a target item, Could transform daemon into an "AI" for the item or just a prisoner. trapped
  10. Not really if we build a solar array around the sun, generating that kind of power would be easy. The engineering we would learn would help us when decided to build solar Amat farms.
  11. Some people are talking about a starwisp mission which could get there in 20 to 50 years.
  12. Strong willed and Angry Summoned beings are metawise easier That can reflect the fact that classic bad beings want to be found. Also any ideas on how to bind bind a bing to an item? Say a genie to bottle or an efreet to to a smoking brass urn? Or as in Cacodemon to a Gem? A transform may be one way. Are there others?
  13. The question is OP the GM or Player. But Hero does take fundamentally different path to get there. Now I can't comment on FHC or how it is setup. Nor how it differs from FH 6th edition But one thing 5th did do was put all the package deals up front. It gave you a taste of what it could do. You are right,. Artwork is a big deal. Not to me per se but to others. I will say I have a negative oppinion of Exalted because of the anime style artwork. I won't crack there books for that reason. But good art costs and it is always subjective. But can we have a citation again of where to find the races or how to build them in FHC?
  14. When most of Grognards came up we customized D&D and had all kinds weird stuff. Sixguns & Sorcery anybody? Todays crowd wants to be spoonfed. Some of it is people being older and not having the time. But par of it is a change in generations. There are studies showing the younger crowds are not tinkerers o any level.
  15. Originally John Constantine was not a Homo Magus like Zatanna. He could do rituals but it took time. The Original Mayfair rules stated characters like him to AP's in time that equaled the AP's of effect they were trying to pull off. Now up on current DC continuity so if they have changed that I do not know.
  16. Have you tried requiring Limitations an disads that tie them to each other?
  17. Scout service. Just saying. There is a covert arm of them.
  18. What do you think "cost LTE instead of End" should be worth? And do you go 1/10 or 1/5 End cost?
  19. Not up on 6th but I would ignore that if they drink it themselves and yes it should be con based to resist. Think of it this way my character makes sunscreen then gives to your character who puts it on. Do I need an ocv vs. dcv roll? for it to affect you?
  20. We used to use change environment for this but it now seems mostly negative in 5th. What does CE in 6th say about this?
  21. I saw that under the requires skill roll you can use luck. How does that work? What have you built with it?
