  1. Re: Multiform, Multichange, Multipower Not to be confused with the NCC Multipower, which according to some should not receive any value as a Limitation

  3. Re: The Munchkin Build Contest Should consider Personal Immunity, or the Drain goes away Do you have a page number citation for that? (If you're using FRED, never mind, because I have 5ER.) I'm looking at a few passages on page 134: To me, this is saying that Succor is not its own power but Aid with some changes; that where not identified as working differently from Aid, it works the same; and that it does follow the Suppress rules.
  4. Re: Wizard's immunity to the magical SFX they use One question: would this require more handwavium to say that the mage was unaffected by Mental effects, etcetera (that usually affect Desolid characters) of the same source, or is this part of the use of Desolid "as Invulnerability"? Requiring a Limitation, even a small (but still non-zero) one, on such powers would effectively grant bonus points to mages who took lots of such spells.
  5. Re: Wizard's immunity to the magical SFX they use Remember, your willingness is only the first part of the bargain. Access to magic is restricted in that the dark lord must also choose you
  6. Re: Corruption of power Morality need not be altruism, the character might have their long-term survival (and prosperity) in mind and therefore be guided by greed to restraining themselves in pursuit of the largest profit over the course of their lives. Short-sighted individuals might place their immediate lusts over their own futures, but in general morality could be motivated by an interest in helping oneself rather than others (or, helping oneself by helping others; specifically, those around you, to surround yourself with strong people who owe you and honestly want to express how grateful they are).
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I didn't read about any agreement. If the GM assumed that everyone would obey, but didn't follow up on it, IMO he deserves to have his secret be known.
  8. Re: I may be overthinking this, but I didn't say rethinking, I said overthinking. Thought does not solely consist of some frantic scramble to assemble a coherent idea so you can run with it, borne out of the desperation to get things done that arises in today's "Now! Faster!" world. There is also the more careful contemplation, such as your philosophy teacher might have described to you on the first day you entered his lecture hall: [The preceding text has been paraphrased for semantics and redacted because I just have no idea anymore how the lecture got from self-identity to ethics. Oddly, my recollection was much clearer several days ago when I had the flu and - during one of my brief lapses into lucidity - this speech was wandering through my mind.] Where was I, anyway? Impulse borders on intuition; a subconscious reasoning process. One of the consequences of deepening your awareness is that processes which were previously subconscious may be made fully conscious. Before that awareness, we are consciously aware only of having an opinion or idea manifest, fully formed, in our mind; we then might be able to improve upon it, but only if we try, and even then it depends upon the efficacy of our subconscious mind and the efficacy of our conscious mind. Untrained minds will probably find that their subconscious reasoning process is superior. (The subconscious improves over time*, but while trained minds may still eventually be outstripped again by their subconscious, the conscious thoughts can be verified as having actually occurred; untrained minds generally have no choice but to rely on their subconscious for the best thoughts.) *An interesting feedback loop can be set up to learn faster by direct observation of your own thought processes, but this (like many other things that perhaps ought to be included for the sake of thoroughness) is being saved for a future time, of which Liaden may know something After that awareness, however, the least one can do is take note of which methods are employed by the subconscious during a given thought, and not repeat those with the conscious mind. But there is so much more. For instance, by refining these thought processes, one can ensure that the same process of thinking which is "first in line" (usually generating impulses) does produce the best outcome. It can be the best not by chance, not by fortuitous coincidence, but because you made it so with the full resources you had access to. At that stage, there is no point in rethinking a matter because you have already thought about it quite thoroughly before deciding on a "best" answer. This implies that the taking of Extra Time (which, incidentally, would probably earn a bonus to the roll) is outside the control of the thinker. In practice this is not the case; thoroughness may be desired for whenever possible, but in cases where speed is necessary, it will be possible and in fact the thinker may have devised more accurate prediction formulas for what sort of processing will lead to the best thought.

  13. Re: Is anything in the system correctly priced? I would guess it was meant for the original question, thus: yes, there is anything in the system correctly priced What it is, and how many of them there might be, got left out
  14. Re: He's right over... Where'd He Go! You could have a single charge, takes a long time to recover, massive Heal to STUN/BODY/END; perhaps further limited in that it only gets you to enough of each to crawl out of there ;)The charge Triggers when you are captured but noone is looking (probably a guardian spirit built as an AI with lots of enhanced senses to watch over things for you, since the Trigger can't react to things you yourself wouldn't notice, otherwise), giving you one chance to get out of there. Also useful for such situations (and itself just a cool power in general), Running with IPE, limited to "not in crowds"; the SFX is that you can move really fast, but only when noone is looking. (The IPE, of course, means that whenever anyone actually looks at you, they'll see that you're moving at a normal speed.)
  15. Re: Cylon Resurrection Regeneration with the Resurrection adder sounds about right, but can the new body have different physical stats? That would entail a bit more complication.

  17. Re: Alignment Issues Adjusted the sequence slightly, perhaps. Looking back on it I can see that your declaration of "Behold, my Deity of Goodness disapproves!" could have been meant as a preceding indication that you were shifting to your campaign, but if that was the case it wasn't very clear to me; until you started the paragraph about your campaign, it looked like you were placing your statements in the context of the previous post, and that's where a matter-of-fact statement such as "there is no deity; it isn't this, it's that" (paraphrased) seemed a bit too strong
  18. Re: Wizard's immunity to the magical SFX they use I think it would get swallowed up, though AOE spells (such as fireball) would not be entirely cancelled (a single fire mage standing with arms akimbo against an onrushing wall of flame would leave a mage-sized hole in the wall as it rushed onward, perhaps leaving room for others to dash through). If the spell has worn off (so the forest fire is only raging because his magic is still keeping it that way), I could look to SFX for whether the spell was just keeping conditions hot and dry (fanning the flames), or actually making things burn. Of course, since Skippy cast the spell himself, I might disallow immunity anyway (he only gets immunity to the spells of other fire magi, his own have to be let through or he would never be able to use beneficial spells on himself). Secondary consequences of spells aren't blocked. You can use Levitate to lift something heavy, move it over the target's head, and let go; you can't slam it directly into them, because your magic is the only thing making it move, and it harmlessly comes to a stop when it gets near the target's body. There are, of course, other uses here that a clever player may try. My intent is not to lay out exact rules for them to try finding loopholes in; most of these questions will be up to the GM running a game, possibly decided at the moment such a situation arises.
  19. Re: Opinion Fluff: Game Philosophies But if they communicate about it, I'd put that at a 1.9, 1.8 at least. If their actions challenge it but the player asked for the group's rules (before taking any actions) and the group wouldn't say anything, that's a 1.5 (as I described it, above). If the group doesn't adequately articulate their rules, it might go up to a 1.6, but it's still mainly the responsibility of the group to make some effort to explain their desires before those desires can be met.
  20. Right. Err . . . I still can't find where it's stated in the rulebook, though Pages 293/294 (5ER) give instructions for calculating DEF, but not BODY, for Foci, leaving the impression that Foci don't have Body. Instructions are also given for what to do if damage exceeds DEF. Page 302 says that for purposes of calculating DEF and BODY, a Physical Manifestation should be treated as a Breakable Focus. But what page 302 does not say is how to treat damage to Physical Manifestations - should this, too, be treated as per Breakable Foci? I hope this makes my confusion, and question, clearer
