  1. Re: A "how-to" question about Enhanced Senses Two possibilities: 1) have Ultrasonic hearing to include subsonic (infrasonic hearing.) 2) Make a custom enhanced sense called Subsonic Hearing that costs the same as Ultrasonic Hearing. The model for this is that there is Ultraviolet Vision and Infrared Vision which are the higher than normal (what humans can see) frequencies of light and lower than normal frequencies of light. Option 2 is probably the more consistent. Option 1 is probably better represents what the ability is worth.
  2. Re: Superheroes as firemen rather than cops? This is why I strongly try to dissuade players from introducing players with Healing (others) Powers. They do more good NOT going out to battle villains, and spending more time healing the sick. Good - certainly. Heroic - possibly. Super heroic - not really.
  3. Re: The PRE Brick? I believe the proper term for this archetype is a contraction of the term PRE brick: PR'rick.
  4. Re: Superheroes as firemen rather than cops? In a humourous Champions game, a friend of mine took the concept so far as to come up with a power-armoured hero who worked as a fireman, as oppossed to the usual trope of the power-armoured cop. He was called Hydrant. His suit was red, and shaped like a giant fire hydrant. He didn't like dogs.

  8. Re: Integrating "normal" things into a "Super" world LL, I think I'm going to integrate these into my campaign. Good stuff!
  9. Re: Haymaker out of combat DC Comics Presents #26 : when Superman took out the alien whoozits that took on Green Lantern's form - that was a haymaker - and probably a 4th edition one at that. I forget the issue number, but the scene is often reprinted, where Spider-man's trapped in a burning building, and he decides that he must get free, that was a push. Nineteen years w/ Champions. I've seen numerous haymakers used like the above example. I've seen a lot of uses of pushing that aren't nearly so appropriate. If pushing makes haymaker redundant, then it's the pushing rules that are broken. It's the one that players abuse.
  10. Re: Best Mystic comic/character ever? Nothing like giving your kid a name that'll force her into the family business. Kind of like Pops Racer naming his second son "Speed." Personally, I think her name's Agnes and she adopted "Zatanna" as a name when she went into show business.
  11. Re: Haymaker out of combat Heh. Then ther was the old Kick rules and the way martial arts worked in Champions prior to 4th edition...
  12. Re: Merfolk character concept At least +10 STR, and +5 CON.

  14. Re: Haymaker out of combat Anyone else remember the pre-Fred rules where a Haymaker allowed one to do 1.5x their STR damage, and it was just a hand-to-hand maneuver? 10 STR guy, could haymaker to 3d6. If he pushed, he got up to 6d6. Ben Grimm's sunday punch, assuming Ben had a 60 STR, now did 18d6. Which seems a lot closer to how much damage those Sunday punches tend to do, IMO. Essentially, the Haymaker was nerfed so it wasn't so damaging on the high end. Though it does seem more fair that now not just bricks benefit from it. But in the nerfing it to limit abuse on the high end made it rather silly on the low end. And in nearly 20 years of play, I can honestly say I've seen the push rules abused far more often then I've seen the Haymaker rule abused. And the can't Haymaker out of combat ruling by Mr. Long will be ignored in my game. I appreciate most of what Mr. Long has done for the Hero System, but he's human and makes mistakes. This call was one of them.
  15. Re: Best Mystic comic/character ever? First, Doc Strange is a golden age super hero, who is a separate and distinct character from Marvel's Doctor Strange. And Doc Strange wasn't that mystical. Secondly, how can everyone be forgetting about Zatanna? It's all about the fishnets, baby. Syug ecomeb tcere! Though, I'll always have a soft spot for Dr. Fate and the Spectre.

    Grond vs. A Cow

Re: Grond vs. A Cow Is the Cow fighting back? If it is, then Grond can Haymaker (WTF?) and get +4 DC.

  20. Re: Telling YOU about the RCU! We're glad to have you. And, here is the write-up another player did of the Retribution face-to-face game from last Thursday. They spent several months apart until Balatar found himself shot in England, mistaken for Kristoffer, Son of Moldred, or one of his kin. It was at that point that he put out a mystical summons, bringing The Prophet, Artemis and Wulf to his aid. Confused by the change of scenery and the strange situation, Damon and Sara instantly started in on one another while questioning MI-9 secret agent Matthew Stockton and U.N.I.T. Brigadier Winifred Bambera about what was going on. After about a dozen insults, a half dozen threats and the realization of an extra dead body, the trio learned that the British hero Crusader had been killed in what appeared to be a Follower of Germanicus ritual sacrifice. While Wulf worked on stabilizing Balatar, Damon worked on tracking the mystical scent of the attacker. When that didn't pan out, they agreed to go with Stockton to Soho, looking for clues to the FoG Underground. Once there, Damon searched for runes that would signify safe-havens, leading the quintet to a local bar. Anticipating the obligatory bar fight and leaving Balatar in the car to continue nursing his wounds, the crew entered, Sara knocked out the bouncer and Damon began searching for Followers. When he couldn't find any sign of them, they went to question the owner, ending with Artemis holding an arrow to her head to gain the information they wanted. As they left the office, Balatar had taken the place of Stockton, the latter having to report in due to the one-day romance of Prince William. Learning that the young prince had only met his fiancé that day, Artemis questioned the coincidence and drawing the conclusion that the soon-to-be princess could have conducted the ritual for a type of power beyond the physical. While Wulf and Damon tried to learn more through the newspapers, Sara took Hans to his near-by flat (apartment) to clean up and bandage what was left of his wound. The two guys rejoin them and an agreement is finally reached; Millicent Spencer had to be stopped. A loose plan was quickly formed, with Balatar using what little strength he had left to teleport them. Wulf thought of setting off the fire-suppression system while Artemis and Damon went after the woman. Running distraction, Damon terrorized the guards and royal family while Sara struggled with Spencer. Damon ended up putting the princess-to-be into his special form of bondage, allowing Wulf to come in and carry her away. When done, Balatar teleported them back out again, returning her to the scene of her crime. Damon had convinced himself and the rest of the team that he could create a ritual that, with the cooperation of the Follower, could negate the pact made with Der Nacht, returning their soul and removing their powers. Given the choice between negation or termination, Spencer chose to surrender her powers, transforming back into her previous frumpy form. Once done, Wulf suggested that she turn to religion, while Artemis told her that she had better stay clean, or next time she wouldn't see it coming. Leaving once again by teleportation as Stockton was brought in to make the arrest, the group returned to Hans's flat to recuperate and decide where to go from there.

  22. Re: [Character] Human Flying Fish Actually, it was already reprinted in a colour collected volume of old Superfriends comic stories. And no, he didn't really have any power-ups. This was Superfirends. The heroes had power downs.

    Needed: Input

Re: Needed: Input The most obvious 'weakness' would be to Cold Powers, since cold is really the absorption of heat. There's no energy being generated; it's being removed.
  25. Re: [Character] Human Flying Fish HFF did appear again. In the first few issues of the "Super Friends" comic (circa 1975 or so) he was a part of the "Super Foes" (along with Penguin, Toyman, Cheetah and Poison Ivy.)
