  1. Re: What's different about YOUR Champions Unvierse? I've never used the CU for my campaigns I ran. I've always done my own homebrew. Most of my campaigns were under 1st-4th edition. My only 5E campaign got shelved before we started. It was a Golden Age campaign which, again, did not follow the CU at all. This isn't to say that I didn't used published materials as part of those earlier campaigns. Mechanon, Stronghold, etc., all existed (in the "modern" timeline) campaigns.
  2. Re: The Ultimate Pulp Era Gear Archives - Over 100 pages of Free Pulp Research I don't know if it has a new home or not, but you can find the last version over at the wayback machine.
  3. Re: Another New Guy? Welcome Gary. These forums are great for questions. And just to jump in before anyone else, I highly recommend purchasing the Hero Designer software. It takes the pain out of character creation (i.e., it does all the math for you )
  4. Re: [Review] The Ultimate Energy Projector G-A, Thanks for another great review. I already picked up my copy. I'd rep you, but you know the drill.... Scott
  5. Re: GMing a Post Apocalypse campaign Don't forget that Post Apocalyptic Hero is in the works. I'm sure it will be useful even after you've started your game. Scott Baker
  6. Re: [Review] The Ultimate Metamorph I'm finally catching upon reading the forums. Thanks for another useful write-up G-A. Scott Baker

  8. Re: WHY is combat so slow and what have you done about it?
  9. Re: GMs: making abilities useful In campaigns-past I have required a percentage of character points be spent on non-combat skills. It added to the characters and I would try to take those skills into account, even if I wasn't specifically planning a specific use for them. Of course I also have had some creative players who have come up with all sorts of uses for their skills. Scott Baker
  10. Re: Artifact for your pulp game A complete mini-package to use. Thanks. Scott Baker
  11. Re: Hero Funding Sell advertising on your armor. Like racecars. Scott Baker
  12. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Hero -- What Do *You* Want To See? Get your whites whiter! Brighten all of your colors! NEW Apocalypse Detergent! Now with the power of plants!!! Scott Baker
  13. Re: quick help question If you mean identifying the books, you can check out this link: http://rhinobunny.com/derek/champions/herogameslist.html 1st edition was 64 pages and had a color cover. 2nd edition came out in the box set; it ran 80 pages with a black-and-white cover. Edit: You can also look on page 2 to see if the Dedication starts out, "The 2nd Edition of CHAMPIONS is dedicated to the following people:." If you mean the content changes, I don't remember that far back, and don't have a copy of 1st edition to compare against. Scott Baker
  14. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Hero -- What Do *You* Want To See? There's definitely room for a range. Don't forget the amazing power of plants though. Roads may not wear out without traffic, but give the plants free run to grow when and where they want, and I'm sure you'll see a lot of deterioration. Modified by the rest of then environment this still gives you a lot of leeway in your breakdown timeline. Scott Baker
  15. Re: 6th Edition Hero System That's the old 5th Edition Tuala Morn. Based on the current discussionr, maybe Tuala Morn would be an outside-the-revised-timeline setting. That way it could still have both options and wouldn't impact the other settings. If it still was to be included in such a revised timeline, someone would have to make a choice obviously. No one said such choices would be easy; or popular in this case since some people will prefer low-level TM and other high-level TM. Scott Baker
  16. Re: What is your most humous story OK, to make up for my OT rant... Same variant game I mentioned in my previous post. After the vampire's untimely demise, the party comes to a crypt. At the far end of the room we found a stone sarcophagus standing upright. Inside there was a skelal figure cloaked in fancy looking robes. We noticed some strainge markings on the floor in a semi-circle around the sarcophagus. Being the paranoid group that we were, we decided there must be some reason they were there and refused to cross them.. So we're examining the thing from every angle possible when the GM tells us that the jaw starts to open. We shout out our battle cry, "KILL IT!!!," and proceed to attack with ranged weapons. The group had another good laugh when the surprised GM couldn't understand why we didn't want to hear what the Lich had to tell us. Or why we didn't go any closer--if we had it would have been released from its prison and probably killed the whole party. Poor GM. We thought it was funny. YMMV. Scott Baker
  17. Re: 6th Edition Hero System Hugh - repped for putting together a succinct description of (at least part of) the issue. Scott Baker
  18. Re: Champions 1st edition picture request The first edition was a color cover. It did not come in a box. The second edition had the color box cover. The book itself was a grey-scale picture. Scott Baker
  19. Re: Hero system complexity Are you comparing against the core 3 books? If you compare against the sum total from WOTC that was posted in another thread, I think that the hundreds of classes and even more feats far outstrips Hero. As for the stats, yes 14 is more to deal with than 6. Scott Baker
  20. Re: Hero system complexity I agree. In my last encounter with d20, I had to figure out everything clear out to at least level 12 to ensure the character would be able to "build" in the direction I wanted. That was a lot of up-front work. I will admit that I didn't have to do all that work. I could have just built a 1st level character and gone with it. But then you're very unlikely to be able to advance the character the way you want (when you do finally look at some of the other options). Scott Baker
  21. Re: What is your most humous story I was a player in a variant The-Game-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named. The party had been playing for some time, and I had just joined. For some reason the GM decided my character should start out as a totally starting character (which meant I was just lucky to be alive being in the party). At one point in the adventure my character was mind-controlled by a vampire. The party's walking down a corridor and I'm told to take the party down the right-hand tunnel when we come to a fork in the path. No problem! We come to the fork in the path. I convince the party to take the right-hand tunnel. The other players had no idea what was actually going on, so it wasn't hard. As soon as we start down the tunnel, the GM takes me aside and starts ranting that my character's mind controlled and I have to do what I was told, yada yada yada. What's the punchline? Glad you asked. The GM was sitting on the opposite side of the map from the players. His right was my left. I did exactly as I was told. The party ends up running directly into the vampire who was setting up an ambush from behind and they slaughter him. After the battle, all of the players got a great laugh out of the confusion (poor GM). It was hilarious to us. YMMV Scott Baker
