  1. Re: Need help with character An Ego Signature is something that marks the characters. For instance the Lone Ranger always leaves a silver bullet. The Harbinger of Justice leaves blue moon cards at the scene of his executions. An Ego Signature can also be a particular MO that the character always follows that lets people know he was responsible for the actions that have happened. Perhaps he always leaves the bad guys chained to a street light (so that the light of justice shines on them). That sort of thing. An Ego Signature is a Psychological Limitation. You might want to browse through the Master List of Disadvantages for a few ideas.
  2. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Just started watching the anime Phantom Quest Corp. It is a 4-episode series sold on a single DVD. I have watched episode 1 so far. I was a little too sleepy so I probably didn't absorb as much of it as normal. So far I'd rate it 3 stars out of 5. Perhaps I should re-watch it when my mind is less cloudy.
  3. Re: B-movie inspiration I am really looking forward to see how the Hobbit movies will handle Smaug.
  4. Re: PS238 RPG Cover Preview There are collected works of issues 0-5 (With Liberty and Recess for All), 6-10 (To the Cafeteria With Justice), 11-15 (No Child Left Behind), 16-20 (Not Another Learning Experience). The latest issue is #28. My FLGS does not carry the magazine, there is just too little demand, but order copies based on subscription service. I think that me and two other people are signed up. It is a shame, I think the comic is wonderful it just lacks publicity so few people know about it. Hopefully the Hero Games release will boost both the comic and Hero's sales.
  5. Re: Need help with character So basically he is a classical Vigilante. Not really super-powered. He is a good investigator and an excellent Martial Artist. It is always difficult to come up with all the disads you need to buy all the stuff you want. He is already pretty loaded up with Psych Disads so I don't think you want to mess with his mind any more but you might be okay with an Ego Signature of some sort (page 103 of Dark Champions). Perhaps an Enraged if Innocents are harmed or something like that could work. Is this fellow Asian or just an Occidental who learned Kung Fu? His name, if it traces back to the 60s/70s would probably be pretty classical too. A few suggestions: Street Justice Remittance Man Street Sweeper I hope I got the right idea about what you had in mind.
  6. The sisters seem to fall into three separate generations. This has nothing to do with their technology but their apparent physical age. 1st Generation are the eldest in appearance: January, April, May, June and July all appear to be in their late teens or early twenties. The 2nd Generation is composed of February, March and September. Each of them looks to be a teenager. The 3rd Generation are the pre-teens; August and the triplets (October, November and December). Her is March, a 2nd Generation model. She is one of Marciano’s Twelve Sisters and a combat android that was probably built by Dr. Neilson. Her true age and previous history are never revealed. She and all of the sisters have been around long enough to have gained a reputation as deadly assassins. Being a cyborg Marciano will never have children. Part of her bitterness is due to this. March and all of her sisters are the daughters that Marciano could never have so in addition to being her own personal hit squad they act has her servants and children. Personality/Motivation: March seems to be the most patient of the sisters. In episode two she is seen acting as a sniper of sorts with her support weapon, a job that requires patience. Though she displays emotions she never seems to get overly excited, mad or sad about anything. She seems to be all business when it comes to her assignments. She seems to enjoy combat but will never put her enjoyment over getting the job done. March seems to be fashion conscious and perhaps a bit vein about her costume. She had it created as a hand tailored original and complains about getting it messed up if she has to engage in hand to hand combat. She seems to be a bit of a whiner, she is always complaining about things being a bother to do and such. Quote: “What a bother… We’ll have to destroy the buildings too.” Powers/Tactics: March is the support weapons member of the group. Her weapon is an FN Minimi (also known as an M249 SAW). She will use the weapon with bipod to provide supporting fire when possible. She is strong enough to easily fire the weapon when standing and will not hesitate to do so if she has a chance to take out the target. In episode one she fires the weapon while drifting into the Sandvil prison on a parachute! Being all business when it comes to the task at hand, she seems to be one of the more tactically astute of the sisters. In one episode she, June and August are sent out in space fighters in pursuit of an enemy ship. The other two sisters seem to defer to her command decisions. March is a skilled space fighter pilot. It can be assumed that March is a capable melee combatant. In episode three when the sisters are discussing how to capture their target alive (an unusual mission for them) she is the one who confidently suggests that hand to hand combat ought to be effective. Campaign Use: March is patient and this can be a great strength. She is aggressive but not reckless and the other sisters seem to value her opinion. She is good at using her weapon as intended in an over-watch capacity. She is a good space fighter pilot and a capable tactician so she can act as a field commander for detachments of the sisters when April is not around. Appearance: March appears to be about 15 years of age. She has black hair worn in two large ponytails. She is fair skinned and her eyes are a bluish-grey. Her maid’s costume is mostly black and white, stylish but business like. The FN Minimi she carries is almost as long as she is tall but she handles it easily. --------------- Next Up will be April; the android with the golden gun. Perhaps this evening, if not the work week will slow things down some.
  7. Re: PS238 RPG Cover Preview So just how much trouble will Zodon and Victor Von Fogg get in for playing tic-tac-toe by using the moon? And how may active points is it to build a couple of weapons that could do that sort of damage at that range?

She is one of Marciano’s Twelve Sisters and a combat android that was probably built by Dr. Neilson. Her true age and previous history are never revealed. She, and all of the sisters have been around long enough to have gained a reputation as deadly assassins. Being a cyborg Marciano will never have children. Part of her bitterness is due to this. February and all of her sisters are the daughters that Marciano could never have so in addition to being her own personal hit squad they act has her servants and children. Personality/Motivation: February is the most docile acting of all the sisters. She seems happiest when interacting with computers and performing other support functions for Marciano’s Twelve Sisters. She is also comfortable about engaging in combat. She is pretty enthusiastic about being given orders to pilot a fighter spacecraft in one of the later episodes. Quote: “I’ve finished hacking the surveillance system Mother.” Powers/Tactics: February is never seen to use a personal weapon and never engages in ranged combat or melee though she does pilot a space fighter very effectively. Overall she seems to be the least combat capable of the sisters and is a primarily a computer and communications expert. It must be assumed that she is capable of combat for it would be silly for her design to leave her defenseless. Her strength is a guess based on the fact she is slightly smaller than the older looking designs of January, April, May, June and July. In episode one she hacks the computer systems of Sandvil prison simply by laying her hand on the stone floor. Presumably there were data cables in the floor that allowed her access. In later episodes she often takes control of other computers and systems by simply resting her hands on any convenient data terminal. Though she is a highly skilled technician she is not infallible. In episode two the communications systems under her control are knocked off the air by the pirate broadcast. This may have been due to the sheer power of the pirate signals. In episode one the Sadvil prison’s computers had already been compromised by Mister’s team and it seems to give her problems in seizing total control. Campaign Use: February strength lies in her electronic support functions; she is the electronics and intelligence support member of the twelve sisters’ team. She seems able to hack enemy computers. She coordinates tactical operations usually close to, but behind, the front lines. If need be she is a capable space fighter pilot and one must assume that she is capable of effectively using weapons. It is likely that her strength and skills would make her a dangerous hand to hand combatant. Appearance: February physically appears to be between fifteen and eighteen years of age. She wears large glasses which do not seem to serve any purpose other than fashion. Her hair is a reddish-blonde and she wears it in large curls. She is fair skinned and has green eyes. February stands about 5’4” tall and is heavy due to her android body. She wears a mostly white uniform with black lace trim and a black hair bow. It is an individualized maid’s uniform.

She is one of Marciano’s Twelve Sisters and a combat android that was probably built by Dr. Neilson. Her true age and previous history are never revealed. She, and all of the sisters, have been around long enough to have gained a reputation as deadly assassins. Being a cyborg Marciano will never have children. Part of her bitterness is due to this. January and all of her sisters are the daughters that Marciano could never have so in addition to being her own personal hit squad they act has her servants and children. Personality/Motivation: January is a bit of a hot head and who is easily angered when thwarted or taunted. She holds a grudge and at one point even disobeys orders so she can have a crack at Mister who eluded and taunted her previously. She seems to delight in spraying copious amounts of automatic weapons fire at her targets. More so that the other sisters, January seems to enjoy killing. She also displays a degree of vanity when Mister ignores her to talk with Angelica during episode one. She often behaves impulsively and doesn’t always think things through. January is capable of caring and sadness, she and her sisters weep upon witnessing the demise of Madame Marciano, their “Mother.” Quote: “Here, choke on that!” Powers/Tactics: January is armed with a pair of FN P90 Submachine guns but it is only during the first episode that we see her use one in both hands. In later episodes she seems to only use them singly. Two-weapon fighting does not seem to fit and the use of two weapons during the prison raid was likely just an attempt to use volume of fire to cow the prison guards. In a later episode January is seen to have a hollow hip in which she stores her weapon when not in use. She is the only sister shown to have a compartment like this. January never displays any superhuman strength but it can be assumed that she is at least stronger than she looks. In one episode the sisters are discussing how best to capture their target alive and it is agreed that hand-to-hand combat would work. This indicates that most or all of the sisters consider themselves to be more than a match for a normal human. She participates in a HALO parachute assault on the Sandvil prison in episode and uses a pair of submachine guns while descending so her parachute skills are good. During episode two she rappels from a helicopter and uses a hand grenade in combat. She has high enough defenses to defeat most firearms. In episode one she is hit by a powerful rifle (7.62mm NATO round) in the wrist. The bullet knocks away her weapon but seems to cause no other visible damage. In a later episode she is caught in the blast radius of cannon fire. She loses her right arm but quickly recovers from being stunned and knocked down and is ready to continue her pursuit until called back by April. Later when she has been repaired she is seen to display speed reading and speed typing abilities as a test of her new arm and hand. She also pilots a space fighter very effectively. Campaign Use: January is an assassin pure and simple. She is often the point person for the sisters not necessarily because she is ordered too, but because she is impulsive and eager for battle. Unless supervised she will not bother worrying about booby traps and such. She seems confident that her armored body and skill will allow her to prevail without wasting time being cautious. Appearance: She appears to be a young woman in her late teens or early twenties. She has long blonde hair and reddish-brown eyes. She is of average height with an attractive figure and face. She wears a black short sleeved dress with a grey and black mid rift that laces in the back. Her dress features white lace trim on the cuffs, collar and hem of the skirt. She has a crimson shawl draped about her shoulders. Her dress, like all of the sisters, is an individualized maid’s outfit. January is about 5’6” tall but, since she is an android, she weighs 400 lb. Her strength and dexterity still make her appear to be light on her feet.
  13. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Marvel ZOMBIES! Yeah it is just a fan made trailer and it has some gross footage (icky eating scene) but zombie Hulk looks pretty good.
  14. Re: warhammer 40k Star hero I got my copy from my FLGS (bless them) and it looks pretty good, lots of background data if nothing else.
  15. Re: warhammer 40k Star hero Rather than start a new thread I'll just tack on the end of this one. 1) I just got my copy of the new Dark Heresy core rulebook 2) Black Industries has already sold out their first print run. 3) Black Industries has just announced that they will be closing down. 4) Since the new edition of Talisman also sold out this makes no sense. 5) At least I will have the material I need to do a Star Hero conversion when/if I get the free time.

  17. Re: 1pt CSLs Of course that should have read "never allowed them.":o
  18. I never liked the idea of 1-point levels so my campaigns have never allowed them.
  19. Re: 1pt CSLs This is on page 122 of The Ultimate Skill. It has to be very specific. For instance +1 with Martial block only when done barehanded, or +1 with a long sword slashing (a type of strike), etc.
  20. Over the next week or so I will be posting writes-ups to this thread of Marciano's Twelve Sisters. For now I present the basic information that pertains to all 12 of the sisters. In the coming days I will focus on specific sisters and post their write-ups as I complete them. I welcome comments and constructive criticism. These write-ups will be based on the sisters as presented in the anime. There is a manga but I have not read it. Eventually I will submit the finalized write-ups to Susano so he can add it to his website's character archive. Marciano’s Twelve Sisters The Twelve Sisters are characters featured in the anime Coyote Ragtime Show. This is a twelve episode series that was produced in 2006. It was released by ADV into the US market. The story is pretty entertaining but leaves more lose ends than I would have liked. The Twelve Sisters are the most interesting characters even thought they are relegated to a supporting role. I have heard a few rumors of a new anime being made that shines the spotlight on them, but such an anime remains nothing more than rumor. Spoiler Warning: Some of the things below this warning will spoil some portions of the anime. I have tried to spoil as little as possible but some things have to be revealed in order to produce a coherent missive. The Twelve Sisters are android assassins (named January through December) who work for Madame Marciano of the Criminal Guild. They are AIs capable of a full range of emotions and independent thought. They are all young in appearance ranging from about eight years old to the mid-twenties. Madame Marciano is a cyborg whose origins are never revealed. In her employ is a scientist named Neilson who is apparently the builder of the Twelve Sisters and their repairman. Though Neilson is in the employ of Madam Marciano the two seem to have a special relationship; sort of like a sibling, or father-daughter bond. It is pretty clear that Madam Marciano solely holds the reins of power but Neilson is never “bossed” around like the madam’s other employees seem to be. He is a trusted confidant. The corniness of twelve young female assassins named for the months of the year is not lost on the other characters of the show. Chelsea: “Twelve sisters. Isn’t that kinda hokey?” Angelica: “Yeah, and why does it take twelve of them to get the job done?” However their reputation as assassins and the body count they leave in their wake ensures that people take them deadly serious. Commonalities of the Twelve The sisters (other than the October, November and December triplets) are all unique from one another in some degree. However, being combat androids, they have some common advantages and disadvantages. I will elaborate on their individual characteristics later but for now here are some of the things that they have in common. They all communicate via internal radios though oddly when May is captured she seems unable to contact her sisters (this may be due to precautions taken by her captors). These communications are never shown being intercepted so it can be assumed that they are secure links of some sort. When injured they do not bleed. They do seem susceptible to being stunned although it takes a lot to do so and, if left operable, they are never down for more than a second or two. In episode one May has her body destroyed by a rocket-propelled grenade and is left as nothing but a head which is operable and talking within a few seconds. In another episode April and January are caught in a blast. January loses an arm and both are flattened but they are up in a couple of seconds. Numerous times a sister is hit with small arms fire that seems to make them flinch but has little other noticeable effect. I feel this is best modeled by giving them more STUN and a high REC but not a particularly high CON score. The androids are armored enough to shrug off most small arms fire but not so tough as to avoid damage from heavier weapons. Their resistant defenses are geared toward making them somewhat bulletproof; January shrugs off a 7.62mm hit but May's entire body is destroyed what looks like an RPG-7 hit. This seems to indicate somewhere around a 10 to 12 DEF. At times the faint whine of electrical servos can be heard when one of the sisters moves, blinks or flexes a hand. At other times they seem to produce no unusual noises at all. My guess is that they always make some noise but it is very faint and only heard when the surroundings are particularly quiet. All of the Sisters dress in somewhat similar colors, black and/or white with red trim seems to be the most common. All the fashions have an old fashioned look to them. I’d call it a neo-Victorian style. Lace and frills are abundant. There fashions are appropriate to their apparent age. I guess they could be considered maid’s outfits. August wears a top hat but it is soft, saggy and styled such that it seems natural for her wide-eyed, ten-year-old appearance. The eyes of the sisters also seem a little odd, perhaps the pupils have a slightly odd shape or their eyes seem to have a hint of a glow. Again this is a characteristic which would probably escape the casual observer but more than brief eye contact would probably betray their artificial nature. The sisters are all attractive and in the case of the younger models, cute. There is never any indication of unusual senses or especially sharp perception on the part of the sisters. However the “odd” eyes make me feel justified to give them Infrared perception, night vision and a few other enhancements. If they have artificial eyes in the first place it just makes sense to include enhancements. The sisters are reasonably well known. Their exploits are splashed across the galactic new broadcasts so a reputation is definitely called for. Oddly the character Chelsea, who is otherwise a storehouse of criminal history, seems to not recognize them upon their first appearance. So their reputation is ensured but not universal. An 11- seems about right. The sisters are all loyal to Madame Marciano to varying degrees. This loyalty, at least in some cases, is not slavish since there are a couple of instances of them impulsively ignoring orders. In one case May helps some captives of Marciano escape since she has taken a liking to them. Still on the whole they are devoted to Marciano so all of them have some degree of a loyalty psychological limitation. All of the Sisters refer to Marciano as "Mother" or more formally as "Mother Dear." In the field April is the commander and carries a golden Luger that flashbacks show used to be Marciano’s personal weapon. All of the sisters enjoy combat but this varies by the individual. For example January is a hot-head who loves to kill, whereas some of the younger models merely consider battle to be a fun game. None of them display concern about collateral damage. They won’t hesitate to destroy anything or kill anyone who gets between them and their intended target. In one episode March, June and August indiscriminately fire rockets into an urban area leveling buildings to flush their prey, since the target is hiding among them, and they get a kick out of it. All of the sisters, except perhaps August and the triplets, have climbing skills since they are shown rappelling out of helicopters to assault a target in episode 3. A few climb down the walls of a church as well. The sisters are all are seen, at one time or another, flying fighter craft in combat. They always prevail over the mundane human pilots that they encounter and often against great odds. In episode seven February, March and July engage in a fight against many human-piloted fighters and win. February and July each claim at least 8 kills. Often we see them in criminal guild helicopters but in these cases they are always passengers with guild supplied pilots. So either their piloting skills are limited to star fighters, or they are just too important to pilot multi-passenger aircraft. September is destroyed while riding as a passenger in a guild helicopter during episode three (we only see her briefly but freezing the playback she seems to be merely a passenger and not the pilot). Based on this observation I think that piloting rotor-wing aircraft is not in their programming. Being androids they all enjoy STR, DEX and other physical abilities beyond those of normal humans. All are skilled in melee combat, some more than others. When ordered to take a target alive they all seem to agree that hand to hand combat is the best method. This indicates that they feel mere humans cannot compete with their strength and toughness in close combat. Finally they all share the benefits of being a member of Marciano’s Twelve Sisters. Being a powerful member of the Criminal Guild Marciano has influence throughout the galaxy and can almost always buy off local authorities to ensure the sisters escape if things go wrong. In episode one the sisters are pretty much all busted up in their first attempt to catch the heroes. The heroes flee and the local authorities see to the recovery and return of the damaged androids to Madame Marciano. Sounds like a pretty nice membership fringe benefit to me. Of course being watched by Marciano and being subject to orders is the trade-off. ------------- And there you have it. Hopefully I will be able to start building the individuals and posting them in the coming days. I intend to start with psycho submachine gun wielding January and proceed through the months. EDIT: Marciano was originally, incorrectly described as being an android. She is actually a Cyborg. Thanks to SAVeira for the catch.
  21. Re: Multiform, OIHID or just sfx? If the character can instantly change, and it is rare for the character to be caught in a position where they cannot change their form, then I would not allow OIHID since it isn't really a limitation. If there are ways that the character can be forced to remain in normal ID or can be forced to change into normal ID and this happens often enough, then OIHID might be acceptable. Our group uses OIHID for things like powered armor. The sort of armor that can't be taken away from a character in a single turn out of combat. Something like Iron Man's armor is a good example, even if he is unconscious it could take hours to cut him out of his armor so it isn't really a focus. But he has no powers unless he is in the armor and it takes some time to put it on, thus OIHID works great for something like that.

  23. Re: Susano's Guide to Adapting Fictional Characters to HERO I am going to use the guide and take a shot at designing Marciano's Twelve Sisters from the anime Coyote Ragtime Show. I just got the DVDs so I will start an indepth review starting tonight. I am not sure how long this will take but I will post'em when I get done with them.
