Re: Still looking for original character sheets
Here are the 8 original character sheets, from the first printing back in 1981, from the original blue covered edition as .gif scans.
Re: DEF and BODY of common items
Yep, the Ultimate Brick has a pretty exhaustive list of common, and not so common things for your characters to break. If it isn't listed you don't really need to break it.
Re: Time travel in the Marvel Universe
Rama-Tut is supposed to have one. Bishop of the X-Men was a time traveler but I think he made a one-way trip.
EDIT: I think that Rama-Tut is an alias of Kang (he has many). I have been doing a little Google work and found Dr. Yesterday from the Marvel Universe. Here is data on Widget.
Re: What Non-Fiction Book have you just finished?
Silent Victory: The U.S. Submarine War Against Japan
It is a very good book if you are into military history. The writing style of the author is excellent and not dry. You actually get a feel for the crews and their exploits. One of the best history books I have read in a while.
Re: DC ruleset used for modern (non costumed) gaming?
Our group uses Dark Champions extensively. In fact we rarely play costumed games at all. We have a street-level, realistic, vigilante game which is more akin to something like the movie "Boondock Saints." We are currently playing a Stargate Hero campaign in which the player characters are mostly normal (one former jaffa).
Re: Do you use minis?
We almost always use miniatures whether we play Champions or any other iteration of Hero System. Our gaming table is 5'x8' and on that we have a Mondomat which gives us lots of room (about 55 hexes by 150 hexes).
When we have a situation with lots of innocent bystanders in the way (non-combatants) we use pente pieces to represent them and use miniatures for all of the player characters and combatant NPCs.
In order to keep track of large numbers of NPCs I have numbered a good many of my miniatures. I printed a sequence of numbers on a sheet of paper and then used a hole punch to make small round pieces of paper with numbers on them. I glue one identifying number to each miniatures base and can keep track of which miniatures is which that way. So for instance if I need to know what any particular miniature represents I can look at the mini, see it is #6, and then note that #6 has taken 12 Stun and is currently holding an action.
Re: How Long Does This Take
This is kind of what I thought and how we played it last night. If he remained in place he could load and fire in a single phase. However we were not sure and this morning I got to second guessing myself. Thanks for the confirmation.
This situation came up in our Stargate Hero game last night while we were engaged in a firefight with Jaffa. A character has an M203 Grenade Launcher underslung on an M16 rifle. How long does each shot after the first take?
1/2 Phase to draw a grenade from his pouch
1/2 Phase to load the launcher.
1/2 Phase to ready the launcher (bring it back up the the shoulder).
1/2 Phase to make the attack.
Is step three needed in the sequence above? How much time would Fast Draw w/Grenade Launchers trim from this sequence?
Re: Solanum Zombie (1st Draft)
Looks pretty good to me. It is interesting to see a write-up of how the virus works. Normally I'd just hand wave the effects of the bite rather than try to write it up, but I think you did a good job with it.
Re: Finger & Palm Print Mimic
I like the shape shift write-up. It looks better than what I had come up with. To simulate the chance of an error I might give it an activation roll.
In our cyberhero game one of the players wants to have a character whose cybernetic hand can mimic any palm and finger prints that he has analyzed. He has a cyber-eye that has detect finger/palm prints with discriminatory and analysis. The eye was easy to build but how would you build the mimic ability?
1) I could use Shape Shift and limit it to mimicking finger and palm prints.
2) I could use a cosmetic Transform.
3) I could just buy a big bonus to Security Systems vs. finger and palm readers.
4) Something else I haven't though about.
How would you do it?
Re: Acting first with a presence attack
Yep, they are Zero Phase actions (I did check the book). Although they are referred to as an attack they do not end you action and can be preformed in conjunction with another action. For example, I smash Viper Agent 3 as a violent action for use in my PRE attack on Ogre.
Re: Acting first with a presence attack
In many cases an initial PRE attack can be made before the game shifts into "combat time." Once combat begins everyone acts in the starting Phase 12 in order of their DEX, of course if you have impressed your foe you can get that all important action first regardless of DEX scores.
Once combat begins PRE attacks are naturally harder (thus the -1d6 for in combat) and limited by when you can act. However if you act after your foe on Phase 4 and succeed in a PRE attack, then in your next phase (if it is the same as the opponent) you will get to act first even if their DEX is higher.
Re: Who is the best Super in comics?
The Tick.
Back when I read comics (I stopped about two decades ago):
1. Iron Man
2. Captain America
3. Sergeant Rock
Re: Gang members
Here are an assortment of Generic Thugs and gang bangers that I have used in some of my Dark Champions games.
EDIT: I have an Outlaw Biker Type 2 but five attachments is the limit. If someone wants that one let me know. I also have a generic cop write-up.
Re: Hudson City and It's Brilliance
I have run two major Dark Champions campaigns that were based in Hudson City. You can read the campaign log of both campaigns by following the links in my signature (Weekend Warriors and The Omega Team). Both groups have headquarters in Hudson City which are mentioned in some detail in the campaign logs.
