OAF, just like a gun.  But don't put the Charges limitation on it.

If someone grabs the shaft of the spear, you can't throw it, can you?  If someone is grabbing the barrel of your gun, you can't aim it.  Can it be grabbed?  Is it indeed a physical thing that's just held in your hand?  Returning to you is just the special effect of not having limited uses (Charges).  Mechanically, it's no different than a gun with effectively unlimited ammo.

A regular thrown spear is an OAF with 1 Recoverable Charge.

PhilFleischmann reacted to Lucius in How to Build: Vorpal weapons?
I'd go back to the source material:
    C.S. Lewis' Jabberwocky

    The word vorpal appears twice:

    "He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—"

"One, two! One, two! And through and through
       The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
       He went galumphing back."

Gygax decided "vorpal" meant "tends to behead easily" but that is not at all obvious to me from the poem; in fact, the meaning of "vorpal" is pretty obscure and before I encountered the word again in D&D I always thought it referenced some imaginary metal like adamantium or mithril. It could also reasonably be a style of blade, like longsword or broadsword.

Note that "He left it dead and with its head He went galumphing back" could easily mean he slew the monster, than beheaded it post-mortem; there's no reason I see to conclude that he definitely slew it by cutting off the head.

All the poem tells us is that if you go "one two! one two!" with it, it will go "through and through" and go "snicker-snack!"  This does not really distinguish it from any other sword in the hands of a capable warrior courageous enough to brave "the jaws that bite" and nimble enough to evade "the claws that catch." At most, it suggests that the sword easily cuts through the hide, flesh, and bone of a jabberwock. Or of "The Jabberwock" as it seems possible the monster was singular and unique.

So perhaps I'd give a "vorpal" weapon a combination of Armor Piercing, Penetrating, Reduced Negation, and some extra damage.

And on a palindromedary I went galumphing along.

There is. Make an absolute. In this case it should be expensive. But doable. Before anyone argues that there are no absolutes in Hero, i’ll note that in CC under No Absolutes there is a line that you can still make one under GM discretion naturally.

I've two things I dislike about growth in 6th ed.
    1) The disadvantage for height penalties and the weight penalties are disproportionate to the power.  Say you are playing Gi-Ant Man from Captain America: Civil War.  Using the growth power you are effectively huge or larger, so your effective DCV drops by 6 or more and all you get for compensation is 9 non-resistant PD and ED?
    2) The cost jump.  If you are playing a 6DC to about 10DC game, growth sort of works out.  But at a higher level, there is a huge jump in cost.

I've basically found, you do a lot better using multiform for size changing.  For 90 points, you could pay for a 400 point character with 4 different sizes and not pay end for the power.

Hi.  Remember me?  I used to be very active on these boards some years ago.  I remember some of you.  Hi.  I've been away a long time, and haven't been Heroing or RPGing at all.  I don't have the group I used to have to play with.  Then t'other day, the thought occurred to me to look up something I wrote on these boards way back when.  And thoughts have been going through my head of my old fantasy campaign world.  I don't know if I'll resume my former activity level here, but maybe I'll at least stop in to keep up-to-date.  I have the 5th edition (FREd), but not the 6th, and many of the 5th edition books (and some earlier ones, too - 4th, 3rd).

If you were around when I last e-roamed these e-halls, you may remember my avatar.  I probably should change it, since it's source is no longer relevant.  But I'll keep it for now in case it jogs your memory.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?

My parents came up with it, actually.

What was the first tabletop RPG you Played?

Red Box DnD, like everyone else, followed quickly by 1st ed. AD&D.  It was the only game in town.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?

Module B1 - "In Search of the Unknown"  A rather generic title - couldn't any module be described the same way?  Was there ever a module called "The Place that We Already Know Everything About"?

    What are you currently Playing/GMing?

Not currently playing/GMing any RPGs, but if I could, I'd love to start GMing Fantasy Hero again, or playing Hero in nearly any genre.  I've been mostly playing board games recently, which I also greatly enjoy.

When did you start to play Hero?

I guess it would have been 3rd ed. Champions in the early '80s.  Never went back to that previous system, except for a few isolated times when that's what they were playing, and it was deendee or nothing.

Hi! Been a Champions nut for a very long time (1985, 3rd ed) but been quite inactive over the last decade and a half. Ran a lot of 3rd and 4th ed but skipped over Fuzion (ugh) and 5th ed. Champions Complete has recently fallen into my lap and the old juices are starting to flow again.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
I picked up a nickname as "The Missing Link" at my first proper job. Link is "Rinku" in Japanese which I was always a fan of. Nothing to do with Zelda - but because of Link from Zelda I got into the habit of sticking the "m" for missing in front to make a handle.

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
      1st Edition Traveller, circa 1980.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
      Ditto.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Playing 2nd Ed Space:1889 (Ubiquity version) with the old gang via Skype. Prepping to run Champions 6th after we finish that campaign.

Edit: Just added a profile picture. Never played Captain Third in a tabletop game, but he's appeared in City of Heroes, DCUO, Pirates of the Burning Sea and has a miniature (pictured). Probably I should have a picture of Robo-bushi or Dwarfstar who go back to my actual Champions playing days, but Cap started as a wargaming tournament in-joke and the first drawing of him was as a forum profile portrait, so hey.

Personally, what I don't want to see:
    * Licensed settings -- no interest at all -- unless someone knows the licensed world as well as those who officially write for it, I really don't want them creating material for it. Plus I have never been the type to imagine myself in a TV or book setting.
    * Detailed settings -- far easier to come up with something of my own rather than reading and absorbing a big book

    What I'd like to see:
    * Books of adventures seeds and ideas with thoughts on where to take them
    * Books of setting ideas with maybe a page or two on each setting
    * In general, books that are more about teaching a GM to fish as opposed to giving him fish.

I want Hero to make a fully realized fully built out Fantasy World. Including Spells, Fighting styles, History, Full color maps, Hero System rules. Everything but power building rules. Everything that a GM needs to run games in that fantasy world. It could be a Rulebook and a Gazetteer style book (ie Pathfinder Core and Inner Sea World Guide). I would also like to see the same thing done to Superheroes. the idea would be for the writeup to be minimal nothing extra and to keep things very simple. Self contained would be the watchword. GM's wanting more customization would be pointed at Champions Complete and Fantasy Hero Complete. Writeups of all equipment, spells etc with all of the costs in them would be available using Bits & Mortar service.

Also something that crosses Savage Worlds Plot point campaigns with Paizo's Adventure path. ie Something that has a strong plotline, but also has some side adventures/quests for variety. Because adventures actually drives sales of other books. GM's need adventures and campaigns. Making it easy for the GM to run will generate sales of the books because they will want to run the game.

I would also love to see more Champions Miniatures. Perhaps WizKids can do some HeroClix of the Champions Universe characters.

Nothing, except that it would be hard to justify the game effects of a D&D monk with the special effect of "brawler".  The best western-fantasy monk chrome I ever saw was as a sort of Celtic wild man who drew his powers from nature spirits.  It was always very clear that the monk class was originally based on the eastern martial artist variety, however, and that was a little irritating for those of us who didn't want kung fu in our medieval European fantasy.
